I was running a DK2 fine with a AMD7970 and an i5 it was fine for iracing but really struggled with PCars and some of the more graphically intensive stuff.
I'd try it with the view that you may have to upgrade.

How much are Dk2's going for, I have one sat unused that I keep thinking about selling?

Can Half Life 2 be played on the Oculus?

If so im tempted just to get one for that. Doing the game over (havent played it through in YEARRRRS) would be incredible.
Unfortunately normal FPS controls in VR make people sick - its basically just like sea sickness but worse. i don't seem too affected by it but other people are.

You can get HL2 working via an unofficial third party prigram called Vorpx, but it will probably take some fiddling with settings and maybe .ini files to get it to work.

I have minecraft in VR (a lot of people really want this) and yet I haven't played it much...I'm hoping Touch will get me back into VR gaming as I have fallen off the wagon a bit.

Yeah I suppose that makes sense.

So is VR only really good for games where the person in-game isnt moving themselves? Like racing games?

Thanks. I only ever hotlap, so there are never any other cars to render. This is a DK2 and he wants £250, which seems reasonable to me?

Kind of - although a lot of effort was spent with both the major players (and I assume the smaller ones) to make the hardware have a proper refresh rate on the screens which was seen as the most important feature to combat the motion sickness, is why a pretty beefy machine is recommended to supply the hardware with a proper refresh rate.

Also depends on the game - older games that were written for monitors, and been adapted, may give more of an issue. Games that have been written from the ground up for the tech should be ok.

Will also depend upon the user, whether you're especially sensitive to it and whatnot.

I've sort of found that with my Gear VR. I was amazed to start with and thought I'd go and buy a Rift or Vive. But since the initial wow factor I've not bothered with it. I've not actually bought any games since i got it but have bought normal games in the same period. I've come to the conclusion it's a bit of a faff.

Had a look at ebay, sold prices anywhere from £200 up to over £300 so around £250 sounds reasonable to me.

If anyone is interested, happy to let mine go at that price including a set of vr covers and shipping.

I was talking to an events guy at Silverstone on Sunday running DK2 simulators, CV1 is noticeably less blurry than DK2 apparently. I'm going to avoid the DK2 myself and save up for a CV1 or maybe even a CV2 when they are released. I running triples at the moment and though I like the idea of VR I'm not sure I'm ready to pull the trigger just yet.

Just been released over here, so you may as well get the 'real' one.

Thanks. We've agreed a price a little below that and I should pick it up soon. smile

Vive 2 annouced, 4-6 months, cheaper, lighter.

But then in 6 months? If they iterate that quickly, may as well wait another 18 months for generation 4! And then some more until they become contact lenses! smile

This is exactly why although I'm itching to try VR, I'm being patient and waiting a bit. The tech isn't quite there yet IMO but with the amount of investment in this area, I've no doubt we'll see some amazing improvements in the next year or so which will make the current versions look a little half baked by comparison.

I'm up for VR but I'll leave it another year or so to develop before jumping onboard

I'm hoping for two main improvements really.

1) Lighter more ergonomic headgear, the current units are just a bit too bulky still.

2) Improved resolution and refresh rates

Both should be coming in the next version of the Rift.

Just as a side note, some developers are pulling OR support due to Luckey's support of Trump, that is, he wanted to give more money to Trump than he was allowed to, so got around it by giving to a Trump affiliated organisation. A fairly common workaround. This isn't to kick starta row on whether they should or not, merely as a sidenote to illustrate that there may be less software.

At least OR have relaxed the DRM, allowing games to be played on Vive as well again.

Something worth noting: I got my first taste of VR last week after buying a secondhand OR DK2. The default settings were such a low resolution that I couldn't see where I was going in the driving sim I use. It was the same at the guy I bought it off's house when he demoed it to me. Last night though I looked online for advice, tweaked a config file and changed some settings and now it looks pretty much like the image on my monitors. I also get less motion sick at higher res.

Something else that has surprised me is that my three monitors are displaying the game whilst I play it on the OR, which can't be that good for graphics processing efficiency! Does anyone know anything about that and/or how to turn it off to give the gfx card less to do?

Unplug the monitors. Or disable them in Windows video settings.
