Ha, welcome to the dark side! For the Gol Magnum, again I'd pick up the power up sniper rifle before getting up the tower - preferably the semi auto one at E on Firestorm. This means you have the one hit kill rifle plus whatever other kit you take normally.

Don't forget you don't have to be a sniper or use sniper rifles to do it, either - you just need to be on the tower when you're credited with the kill. So, knifing/shotgunning snipers who are on the tower or people setting off your mines somewhere else on the map whilst you're on the tower all count! smile

Going back to the C4 kill - if you really want to be sneaky you could load up an IFV with C4, drive it into an enemy infantry hotspot, bail out and then detonate as soon as one of them tries to steal your vehicle. Try not to snigger while you do it though! hehe
Got the L96 and the M-Tar too as the first assignment was quicker to achieve than I first thought it would be.
The L96 comes with an 8x scope out of the box which is very useful so just need to spend some time levelling it up to get the straight pull now. And the M-Tar, seems as though it will be very handy once fitted with a silencer.
Did some digging around with regards to the GOL assignment. Apparently, knifing doesn't count towards the kill count and using claymores on the first ladder up the tower in Firestorm is a good catch point for easy kills. Sounds like I need to drop some mines around too and not go all the way to the top. May give it a try tonight.
I like the idea of 'planting' booby trapped vehicles. I think attack boats could be a good candidate for that as they're always scrambled for when available!

Is there any advantage to using iron sights?

I've noticed people using them when they blatantly have RDS etc unlocked.

I don't have the assignment as I don't have the sniper rifle ribbons,
But for assignment that needs the kills from the Caspian border or Firestorm tower, I noticed at the end of round summary that you don't need to be Sniping from it.
I got 4 kills once on the tower just gunning down people coming up the ladders out of the lift at the top.
Thats probably how i'll have to do it as I am a rubbish sniper, the ribbons will take ages alone!

Only real reason is to retain more peripheral vision, as the sights tend to block out quite a bit when you've got them raised.

Target acquisition is also quicker as iron sites take less time to bring up.
I find most of the iron sights block too much of your direct viewpoint though. So I'd rather have an RDS for when you have time to look down the sight prior to engagement and a laser for extreme CQB when you don't.

The only issue with doing that assignment on the Caspian tower is that it get's brought down easily and generally early on in the game.
On the Firestorm tower, it can't get taken down and there are a few different tiers you can kill from. Plus having access to the M82 should help too. shoot

"Hi everyone,

As you know, we’ve been looking into resolving the “rubber banding” that some players on certain platforms have experienced with Battlefield 4 after the recent release of Naval Strike. We’ve found that the root cause of the issue was a configuration of certain hardware types dedicated to 64-player matches.

We have invested in new hardware to resolve this issue and deployed new higher-performance servers this week. In preparation, we conducted a significant amount of testing before installing the new servers to ensure they would correct the issue. We are already seeing performance improvement with 64-player matches and expect this to continue.

While the process took longer than we would’ve liked, we wanted to be 100% sure it was done right and that the long-term solution was properly in place.

Our objective is to deliver the best player experience possible. We feel this solution helps us deliver that to you. Stay tuned to our official channels for more information.

Thanks,

Karl Magnus Troedsson, DICE VP & GM"

So does this mean they have fixed it today? They are going to fix it? It has been fixed already?
Very vague, but hopefully good news.

A step in the right direction, but having played on the test servers, although there was a lot less rubber banding, there was still significant lag.

Hopefully that was due to players being based all over the world and using those specific servers and so will be fixed when people can play on "fixed" local servers.

There was still the stutter when the buildings came down on Hainan Resort even on the test servers though. frown

Well, nothing has changed.. But at least it hasn't gotten worse! biggrin

On the plus side, i've found using the SR338 as a big boy DMR is working truly epically biggrin

I need to give the DMRs a go. I have been grinding through the LMGs. Which one do you guys find the best? I don't have the new guns yet but I hear the new LMG is like a 416 with a 100 round mag! smile

My whole online experience is now revolving around stalking PHers and trying to best em, I am currently 2-1 up on thehangingjudge, not that he probably knows, lol!

Watching lone survivor yesterday had me feeling like a hulk crawling round the bushes sneaking up on people then killing them! Its slow but satisfying!

That is ALL this game is about. laugh If Judge/Pilchy/Lemmings/Karl got my tags, i rodded off the objective and spent the remaining time in game hunting them down to take theirs laugh

Hainan Resort is the best one to get Judge on i found... Then again, if you go onto Caspian agains Lemming/Pilchy/Karl... you generally get what can only be described as cat and mouse grindfest laugh

Best DMRs imo are the SCAR SV, ACE and M39 EMR. RFB is fairly good at closer ranges, but as i said - unlock the SR338 and use it as a big boy DMR... Its outstanding.

In other news I have now got my three jet fighter ribbons which is something of a miracle for me but ended up being fairly easy. Read the suggestions on here for how to do it but still can't manage any air to air kills so worked out my own way: first level up the planes, all you need to do is jump in a plane at the end of a conquest round that you are winning, the full win bonus counts towards the plane. Once you have guided bombs start targeting boats as they are easier to kill than vehicles and I found dam the easiest map to do this on. You can do a loop that takes you no where near the enemy base and aa and it's just long enough to reload and as an added benefit takes you back over your base which usually shakes off any enemies pursuing.

I'm just waiting for the private servers...

Really can't summon much enthusiasm so far - the first BF game I've felt that way since I started with 1942.

I don't even know why - the maps are great, I'm not too fussed about lag etc. as I've always been ste - it's probably the fact I'm not getting time on with loads of you to make it interesting.

Roll on the matches/rented bloody servers!

This.. I only really play with you guys, standard matches just arent fun.

BFBC2 was awesome - just wish this was a reboot of that...

Things like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IRIbIMO0SY go a long way to show why BF4 is coming up short... 6 months down the line, and still massive issues with core dynamics.

Project Cars is the next biggie for me (November). Hoping that you guys might be interested in getting a little league together... Replace tags with pit manouvres... laugh

ETA: The thing about iron sights... Generally they have quite an open sight picture, with a small aperture of engagement... I.e you can see everything going on around you whilst ADS, but as the actual sight is so small, you have a greater chance of hitting what's actually in there - compared to an open sight like a red dot. Lots of real estate in a red dot for those bullets to miss... laugh

Went on last night for what was supposed to be a couple of rounds and ended up going to bed at 3am..

Not sure if the new servers are all sorted but I still got lag, dumped out of a couple of rounds and the dreaded red bars of doom are still evident on some rounds. I still cant figure how firing a fking RPG through someone doesnt kill them or 4 or 5 shotgun rounds do zero damage to then be dropped with 2 rounds from an entry level PDW. I have however now managed to curse in my head rather than scream obscenities at the tv and wake the wife...

I am also looking forward to Project Cars, least they have sorted a release date, more than can be said for Drive Club.... which was one of the games I initially put the deposit down on.
