I do wonder though if the players that are benefiting from the lag of others are able to get this benefit every time they log on? Or whether it is random and/or totally dependent on the connection speed to that particular map?

I can't remember a single time when it felt that I had the edge over any other player. I'm in the same boat as many in that one-to-one encounters seem like I am always playing about 2 seconds behind everyone else.
It's random and varies from player to player within the same server and even between games on that server, as far as I can tell.

Often I'm in a game when I'm racking up my usual KDR and one person completely owns me 1 vs 1, seemingly kills me before I can even get a shot off but their stats (KDR, KPM etc) are pretty normal, so it must be lag.

I've played hundreds of games now and I've never had a game where I've got the drop on all of the enemy, or even a significant number, but it's got to the point now where I can tell whether I have an unfair advantage against a player and vice versa.

It's only a fraction of a second to a second at best, so it's quite difficult to spot unless you're playing in tight quarters like on Metro, Locker or TDM.

Interesingly there was a small amount of lag in BF3 at times too, but it tended to apply against all players on the server and it really was just a small fraction of a second so unless you played a lot of Close Quarters maps or TDM game modes, most people didn't notice it.

Absolutely if you haven't got it already, probably my favorite game mode. Unfortunately you can't setup a party for this so it's a case of jumping in your mates games and even then it's a struggle to change teams. Worth a crack though.
Sounds good - I'll fire you an invite next time I see you on. smile

Bandwidth doesn't factor here unless you have a really narrow pipe. It's latency that is the key facet and even with a 100Mb/s link, your latency can be high or higher than someone with a relatively low bandwidth service. Virgin Media have huge latency on their connections for example, despite the high bandwidth. The 'jitter' on your link will also play a big part from your end.

Ultimately, you could have 0ms latency and non-existent jitter and still have a poor experience due to what's going on at the server end. I've just moved ISP and my baseline latency is around 14ms with practically no jitter and I still have stty games, just like everyone else.

Have only played 1 game on the new maps since downloading them so will get on tonight and attempt to unlock some of those shiny new weapons.

to my eternal shame i was having a bf4 session early in the evening a few nights ago in an empty house, shouting swear words (including the big C) every time i died, which was a lot. after 30 minutes or so i went to get another beer and realised that the rear french doors were both wide open and the lovely church going, widow OAP next door was sat on her patio being treated to my swearing fortissimo frown

Needs to carry a warning "Due to the unfinished nature of this game, players may contract Pottymouthosis, which includes Just one more game syndrome, unnecessary fiddling with game settings in a vain attempt to improve the poor netcode and time passing faster than you'd think, resulting in Angry Wife Syndrome, sleeponthesofadontwakemeupat2amwhenyousefittocometobedosis, bent ear and a stiff neck."

Ooops!! Well, I haven't used a mic for a long time now because of it. I also used to "encourage" my team with advice such as "well if you all sit on the ridge and snipe we aren't going to win you w***ers".... And "how about giving me a f**ng hand to arm the MCOMs" or "FFS help you p***s". You know, pep talks... So I decided it was better not to broadcast this...
