I think whoever ran the PH server put it up as TDM games of which never seemed to take more than a couple of game to full up, then gave it a few before swiftly changing it to your required game mode.

Yeah, its weird cos I've never had a problem filling a server before, ah well, I guess a banner pic of 4 young ladies' butts just doesn't cut the mustard any more coffee

I cannot believe some of the votes for the maps that has been put on this forum (EX Pc playing Mordor fan here)

http://www.mordorhq.com/showthread.php?16125-Battl...

Why people want bf3 maps back when BF1942/BF:V/BF2 and 2142 had big maps with superb vehicular warfare as what BF was always about is beyond me. Grand Bazaar/Ziba tower and Noshmeoff canals topping the list FFS!!!!!! all TDM bks maps. on that link above by doublesix, a user says they reckon BC2 was the best BF of all time and trumps bf2 in every department!!!

I voted for Grand Bazaar, Nashir Canal's and sienne crossing because I enjoyed those maps however BF3 was the first battlefield I properly played so I don't know about any of the other maps listed!

THERE'S the problem, this is probably the case with most of the players of BF4

Yep. Not knocking them (I only started with BC2 and 1942 - missed BF2/2142/et al), but working with a reduced experience set of what BF can be.

Guadawhatever from 1942 would be great in BF4 - massive, good vehicle play, good flags, sniper unfriendly. The snow map from BC2 was pretty damn good too (actually I think a few of the BC2 maps were superb but underpopulated, which 4 would automatically fix).

A couple of the 3 maps were great too - but I'd like to play some of the maps that made the series great several console generations ago (I know they often weren't console games because the kit couldn't play them).

The core problem here IMO is they're making the same mistake Ford did with the mk5 Escorts - trying to be all things to all men, without really having anything done particularly well. They should sit back, define what Battlefield is truly about, and then decide how they're going to present that as effectively as possible.

The thing I love is the variety, and the fact it can be played so many ways. However, the market predominantly features players who want (or are used to) run and gun quickfire tdm style play. Surveys will only reinforce that, and BF will become one of many targeting the same space - rather than offering something unique.

The only game I can think of that had similar elements to BF was MAG on ps3 - online only, huge maps, huge teams and lots of different ways to play. It was st though as it tried to play a numbers game (256 players in one game!) that it simply couldn't support...

Fair one. As toby said, the majority of players on 3 and 4 may not have played 1942 onwards. I started on bf2 for a year or so then have played right through up until the current title. BF2142 was for me the most fun and also played it at a competetive level through esl on clanmod. It had the most balanced class system and the maps were of decent size(1942 is still king for map sizes though) Unfortunately the futuristic setting put many people off and to be honest they missed out on such a well crafted BF. battlecorder and the leaderboards on it were also the best in the entire series so far. Titan mode actually worked a charm as well unlike BF4's attempt on naval strike which was a letdown.

Yes a lot of the above might seem bias but i put in 2000+ hours into 2142 and around 1000 on bc1/bc2/bf3 combined. BC gameplay just felt really clumpy at times so didn't do much for me and BF3-4 have potential but with the majority of the map sizes and getting caught on silly things like small pavements/OMG lensflare it get's tedious...........Oh and the knifing animation thing is arse!!!

To summerise, I feel like BF is still residing in the "Let's compete with COD" camp mentality and start churning ste out once a year with shoebox size maps and so many pointless gadgets for vehicles/weapons that 90% become redundant. I really hope the next bf can bring the series some justice.

EDIT*

Sway did you ever try Delta force Black hawk down or Joint operations Typhoon rising on the PC? some epic games were had on there!!!! also had no boundries on the maps smile

Nope. I've always been really 'casual' gaming - Mario, Sonic and superbomberman did me!

Never played anything on PC, and have only done the single player mode on most of the CoD series...

For some reason, despite not being much of a gamer, I've managed to get hooked on Battlefield - to the point where a few years ago I had to consciously throttle back cause the better half was threatening to leave me!

Joint ops , that's a blast from the past.

i remember one great session where i spent hours sailing a ferry loaded with tanks/apc from our base to the islands we were fighting for.

proper team work would win games.

F'ing great - I turn the game on for the first time in 3 months after being royally screwed by the Destiny DLC, load up a sniper rifle ready to get back into it, spawn in, line up a juicy headshot, pull the trigger and...

...nothing! confused

Then I was shot by my target. mad

Spawned in, exact same thing happened. banghead

Is this a new glitch or something?

When I switch to my pistol, it fires as normal. Switch back to the sniper and nothing.

I'm using the L96 by the way on Flood Zone conquest.

Have lost count of the number of people who've told me they've fixed the game whilst I've been away! banghead

Ok, turns out that my controller, which works perfectly fine on every other game, doesn't work on BF4? confused

Also, the game I joined earlier was as glitchy and laggy as ever - half the time the bolt action animation didn't work on the sniper rifle, movement was stuttering, enemies juddered across the screen and it coming out of ADS/wouldn't go into ADS reliably. frown

Seems like it! laugh

How do you guys find the game now? I just had to quit out of my second game as it was literally unplayable - was in a tank and it kept switching into and out of zoom and even switching weapons whilst teleporting back 10m? confused

I don't remember it being this bad? confused

Am I right in thinking that's much, much bigger than an Apache? Looks fking enormous!

How do they match up IRL? Both predominantly armour killers aren't they?

Youngy, not had anything like that, although I have had the odd shocking night where nothing goes right at all...

I find that happens too. Sometimes you have a game where you can't get things wrong, random shots get kills and so on, you win most fights, kill loads of enemy without being hurt. Then you get games where you hit nothing at all, except for walls, water and so on. Your own grenades rebound and kill you and somehow you get run over by the tank you were driving....

I tend to put it down to server lag.

Having come from a multiplayer game where lag isn't a big issue, I can tell you it's not lag - it's a broken game.

For example, I've played 500 hours of Destiny without a single sound drop out. I've had 3 in the past hour alone on BF4.

Seems they couldn't even be bothered to fix the assignment progress at the end of the game - it's still showing me "progress" on assignments I achieved over 6 months ago! laugh

Anyone who thinks DICE have fixed this game since launch is having a laugh.
