I would like to know RobM77's (and Mr Whippy's) view of rFactor2.

There is a new demo for it now with FR3.5 and Covette cars, replacing the torque-steer 'tastic BTCC Civic from the previous demo.

I think AC has the better car behaviour overall, but rF2 has much better FFB.

The FR3.5 is a fantastic drive.
Sorry, I did see your question but forgot to reply. I've tried RF2 a couple of times and much preferred NetKar and Assetto Corsa. I seem to remember it was mainly down to what I thought was probably the tyre model. If I get the time soon I might try RF2 so I can compare in more detail. I played RF1 quite a lot and liked it (although as discussed earlier, I'm not into the whole 'mod' thing - I'd rather stick with cars and tracks that I know are accurately modelled), although when I discovered NetKar, RF1 almost never got played again, and AC seems to be an improvement on that with much better graphics.

Regarding driving aids being correctly simulated - they really don't interest me as I prefer not to use them. TBH, simulating those seems rather pointless, I think they've quite rightly put their attention into the tyre model and overall vehicle dynamics.
The problem is, for road cars at least, these systems are not on/off type things any more, but fully integrated into the driving dynamics.

Ie, the differential on the Ferrari cars isn't just an LSD or TorSen type, but a dynamic electronic type, probably integrated into the ESP system (using brakes to send torque around).

The MP4 12C uses rear wheel braking for corner yaw control, and doesn't even use conventional suspension.

These systems need to be considered and some type of simulation system created to account for their presence. To just ignore them or fudge over some LSD or other effect to pretend it's reacting like the real car is a bit of a cheap way out imo.

It's even worse when these cars have apparently been accessible by the team of creators, and driven on their own test track.

A simulator isn't just about simulating the physics and feeling 'realistic', it's about simulating the actual car too.

As said, the physics guy on that Inside Sim Racing interview said the GTR was coming to AC, and they'd get it right. But if they don't do the electronics stuff which are highly active even in the off/R modes, then it's not really driving like a GTR would. It's just driving close to how a GTR would using systems that are probably too much of an over-approximation.

I completely agree on the other cars though. For race cars it's seeming to be a nice simulator... but the lack of 24hr/pit stops etc is a bit of a shame at this stage.

I wish they'd just made this a racing simulator, and made it a better one, than making it have road cars that are not done right, and having to leave the racing side incomplete too.

I'll have to grab the demo for rF2!

I bought AC and after sampling it I didn't want to spend more money on something unfinished. In a way it probably spoils the enjoyment of the finished product, having had to spend months or years driving it unfinished and having no idea what is changing, good or bad, why things are buggy etc.

Perhaps all these games are good, but when you consider how good rF1 was at the time for the expected market demographic size, then these newer games look quite lacking. Something is wrong these days when driving games begin to get worse at their core feature set, and have overruns on time required, despite much more revenue.
All we can be guaranteed is flashier looking graphics but even they are not more hard work per se, just more work in a time sense.

And back then there were no Steam to make things easier, no updates on the fly, no hype/pre-ordering.

The only real issue with rF1 was the lack of decent modding tools for the end users to make good mods without spending a LOT of time reverse engineering how the sim worked to figure stuff out.

I still think there is room for a decent PC based sim that avoids racing cars on racing circuits though. Personally I find it a bit bland. I'd much prefer something like Horizon 2 or TDU1 on the PC but with the very very best physics and an eye on complete realism.

Fast road driving in super/ubercars is something you can't do ever, unless you wish to die hehe

Give me a LaFerrari and some sheep to dodge while doing 200mph over the North York Moors please biggrin

That could be fun I'm going to download that when I get home. I like the way that the Lotus 49 handles in the game and it reminds me of how it handled back in Grand prix legends.

That looks a good thing to try. Much better than the tedious original career.

With every update comes a new issue. What comes with the new update?

Much more fun than the BM & Mc.

Has anyone made the move to online play?

There's a couple of servers running the Ring with either street or GT cars that are just on continuous practice that are pretty fun just for learning the track or hot lapping (with occasional traffic to keep you on your toes).

I'm online a fair bit - even from Dubai the ping to the European servers is around 120ish.

Normally in the GT3 classes but also enjoy the Lotus 125 S1, which need lots of concentration.
There's some good racing to be had if you get lucky with the drivers on a particular server.

Has anyone solved that annoying graphics issue where the cars seem to twitch across the screen independant of the environment? I've just setup a projector and this issue / bug really stands out and ruins what could possibly be the most enjoyae experience of my life thus far...

(Yeah I don't get out much)

I get that high frequency stuttering too. Have done since the start till now.

I've mentioned it a few times on the forums but I just don't think the developers care any more.

The answer is always 'more important bugs to fix', which is fine, but there is no official bug list/fix list or if they plan on fixing said things either... you sign up for an early access in the good faith the game will at least not have stupid bugs present like that jittery one, but yet it seems they'll be happy to release V1 of AC with it present.

Lets just hope someone is willing to buy DLC vs just downloading mods, otherwise AC will be dead in the water after V1 imo!

I would always go for DLC over mods because of the greater guarantee of accuracy.

Regarding the jitters; when exactly do you get them? I've never seen anything like that.
