New PC racing sim - Assetto Corsa
Discussion
I was disappointed with it, to be honest, the best thing that AC has had has been the user generated content and I think with Drm and enduroracers will be the things that keep it going.
Personally I don't think the physics are that much better, if at all than pCars with the FFB sorted, it certainly lacks against pCars visually, sound and immersion. The GT40 sounds terrible in car, the Lamborghini has no drama either, especially being both heros of mine.
It doesn't make me want to pick it up and hot lap, where as pCars and Dirt do, I find I lose hours just trying everything out again with them.

pCars is designed for gamers, so all the game elements are there. You get what you paid for.Personally I don't think the physics are that much better, if at all than pCars with the FFB sorted, it certainly lacks against pCars visually, sound and immersion. I'm weary of the underlying AC business model given that all the primary content and features also shift across almost perfectly for pro users needs... and now that those features are there, scant new ones are appearing that purely benefit the gamer market.

The Renault 3.5 is brilliant.
I just wish we could get some more official Kunos created single seaters and pure bred racing cars such as LMP1 etc. I'm a bit miffed that for what is supposedly a motorsport simulator, every new car pack is full of road cars, or road car based racing cars. The trouble with mods is that you never know how accurate they are - who's to know what level of detail has gone into the FR3.5? I'm shortly going to be buying iRacing just to get the FR2.0 (I have a real one and want to practise), which is a bit daft really when I already own AC!Mattygooner said:

Both PC and AC have dreadful sound. Dirt absolutely nails that aspect though - they've done an excellent job there.Personally I don't think the physics are that much better, if at all than pCars with the FFB sorted, it certainly lacks against pCars visually, sound and immersion. If PC could get the sound right it would be a winner for me as the physics with community FFB mods is close enough.
I'm struggling with this game. I haven't downloaded the second DLC as I have extreme Lag where all the other players warp around me and it is totally unplayable. This started around 3 weeks ago.
This is apparently a problem my end, which sounds logical with All other players warping. The thing is my ping and connection is good and no issue on other games to my knowledge. I think perhaps I am getting packet loss, but I dont really know how to check it! When I ping google.com I don't get any lost packets.
It is a shame as it is no fun single player.

Net speed test:
Ping: 39
DL: 9.6mb
UL: 0.9mb
Router:
DSL Line Status
Connection Information
Line state: Connected
Connection time: 0 days, 05:13:34
Downstream: 11.08 Mbps
Upstream: 1.066 Mbps
Alas, I am a bit of a n00b when it comes to computers, I just like playing on them!
Other games seem to work OK, but I tend to play CSS and BF4. They seem to run fine, with a steady ping and no one warping about. It is harder to tell if they are suffering from lag perhaps though?
My connection is also fine watching SKY GO and BT Sport. Its just Assetto Corsa that has recently become unplayable.

Those speed are all fine you should not be having any issues with lag online. The only thing it might be is you being very unlucky with the servers you choose, do you get this with all servers, are there any UK servers you have tried? Or servers with low ping?
Do you get any issues playing the game for along while whilst offline as well?

I had a similar problem a few months ago, IIRC, it turned out to be a BIOS issue. You could try loading the default settings and see if that helps? This is apparently a problem my end, which sounds logical with All other players warping. I think it's awesome single player! :-) I have a ping of over a second (satellite internet), so have never been able to play AC online, but there's more than enough there for me for a lifetime of fun I just wish I could play AC totally offline without Steam, because some days (i.e. the whole of last week), because we're not online Steam won't let me play anything! With regard to your problem though, it's odd that it suddenly just started and presumably you can't recall any config changes at your end?
I am having a problem with all servers, not just one. I pick servers with a ping in the lobby screen of sub 80 normally.
In game at the bottom left there is a Quality and Ping number if you press F9 to hide the overlaid graphics. This seems to be at a normal rate of P:57 and Q:99. It doesn't fluctuate significantly. Maybe up and down 1 or 2 every now and then. Can anyone check to see if they have something similar?
Slipstream, can you expand slightly, baring in mind all I know about the Bios, is that it is something you can change settings on before windows boots! I haven't changed anything at all, but I wonder if a windows update has changed something (windows 7). Do you remember what caused, then cured your issue?

Are you sure it's not the problem with dual core processors? Wirelessly...
But it has been playable with no issues at all for around 1 year. I play other games wirelessly fine. Ok it might not be the ultimate, but it has never caused me any concerns before.
I have tried a different wireless method as well (powerline adapater) to rule out my wireless stick going wrong. I get the exact same result on Assetto Corsa.
It is a strange one! I get the feeling if I plug an ethernet cable in straight from the router, it will be exactly the same.

I presume you mean Game update? If so, it automatically updates as does windows 7, so I am on the latest version of both as far as I know. This lag is full on, I will have to video it. You can be driving along and the car you were following jumps about 60 meters. This obviously causes shunts etc so I stop playing immediately. I think from reading the forums Assetto Corsa does not seem to smooth out packet loss and that might be where my problem lies....

From what I remember, I came to the conclusion that it was some kind of timing issue. My PC came factory overclocked, at some point it failed to boot and I think it automatically adjusted some settings. When I played AC a few days later, I had huge amounts of lag - just as you describe - and it took me a while to make the connection.I *think* that the timing settings used for the processor/motherboard/RAM were for some reason causing desynchronisation to occur which manifested itself as lag in the sim.
I'm sure I fixed it by going into the BIOS and selecting 'automatic' settings for overclocking.
