Took out a gang of super mutants (with a fairly low powered rifle as well, but it fires quickly and you get multipliers for being sneaky!) at the big satalite dish array. There is a Power Armour suit up in the top dish but its just a frame! Is it worth taking? can you find or craft the parts to go on it?

Excellent I'm still using the T60 with flame paint at level 25 looking forward to finding the XO set and doing exactly what you've done
I've quietly retired my Minuteman T-45d set in favour of the T-60 set the BoS give you when you join them. Although it now has a flame paint job. I'm sure the BoS wouldn't approve.

Incidentally, there is the opportunity to acquire an additional incomplete set when you do the first BoS mission. When you have finished the mission to secure the mini nukes at the Fort, which is the first mission you fly for the BoS, as you walk back across the bridge there is guard house, in which I found a frame with T-60 helmet, torso and arms (but no legs) although that will probably be dependent on level. This takes my frame collection to four. The fourth I got when following the Lost Patrol side quest, and is round the back of the National Guard training yard. Watch out for the Sentry Bot that becomes active as you exit that building.

Frames are rare (and expensive) so always worth rescuing. You'll occasionally come across high level Raiders in Power Armour and all their pieces are lootable when killed but not the frame.

OK two things, I didn't realise their was a difference between armour frames and a full set. I also cleared out the satellite array and got happy as I found what I thought was a suit of armour at the top of it, does that mean my celebrations where premature and I know need to find other bits for it?

Secondly I've joined the BoS and didn't get given a suit straight away. I thought I'd have to complete a few missions first but from what I am reading, you are meant to get it as soon as you join, what am I missing?

I assume you must 'properly' join them later on which gets you the armour. I'm at a similar stage to you and it would be bizarre/incredibly trusting of them if they gave a relative stranger a full set of power armour simply for helping them find a piece of radio equipment! hehe

Think I've got about 6 sets now, did find a full X01 in the back of a truck, but the helmet was damaged beyond repair, going to go looking for the rest soon.

There's a full set of power armour locked in a cage on a derailed train just outside of lexington, don't know how good it is or what set it is cause I wasn't a high enough level to use the terminal!

You tell Danse you want to join, and then he invites you to accompany him to The Prydwen. After a "meet and greet" which involves just talking to people, you are issued with your BoS Power Armour and go on your first proper mission for them.

I must say that it does seem rather rushed. Danse is vouching for you and you're accepted on the strength of this but, as Squirrel says, they do seem inordinately impressed by you just fixing a radio array for them. smile

It would have made more sense if you weren't accepted into the BoS until you had travelled with Danse as a companion for a period of time, and he'd got to really admire you. His unwavering endorsement of you would have made more sense then.

I have 4 full suits, 4 or 5 partials and a couple of plain frames.

Serious lack of legs as far as I can see.

Ah that makes sense, I think me & Guv obviously aren't far enough advanced with the main story to have got the invite to the Prydwen. At the moment I can do all the radient quests for the other 2 BOS members, but talking to Danse currently doesn't bring up any other convo options yet.

Funnily enough it will actually make it seem a bit more realistic when I do finally go there as I've done an absolute boat-load of missions for the other two BOS members (thinking incorrectly that you needed to do them to move on the main BOS quest), so I've given Danse plenty of evidence that I know my st! hehe

Hmm. That's odd. I seem to recall doing the Radio array quest for him, and also independently doing the Lost Patrol mission (as in, I started it by finding evidence of the lost patrol and investigating off my own back, although I understand that is an alternative way of starting it). I also did one Quartermaster mission for the Scribe. Next time I talked to Danse he invited me to accompany him to the Prydwen.

Edit: Have you got to the bit in the main story when the Prydwen actually arrives? If not then that would explain why you can't visit it. biggrin

Nope, now I'm properly confused, I've had a conversation with Danse where he definitely asked if I wanted to join the BoS. After pondering whether I wanted to be Danse's monkey boy, the lure of the power armour was too strong so I said yes to joining up and got introduced to the rest of the team. Still no power armour??

Can you take the power armour frames from guys you kill? I've found a couple of people wearing it (one armed only with a pool cue) who I've been able to get the armour off, but can't see a way of taking the frame.

I think I see the issue now.

You need to have advanced sufficiently in the main storyline for the Prydewn (which is a huge airship) to have arrived. You'd know it if it had happened as it's hard to miss. This happens after you've killed Kellogg. I guess that until this happens you can't progress there.

No, you can't. Hence my earlier comment (about 90 mins ago) about being able to loot Power Armour pieces from such people but being unable to take the frame.

You can if you pick-pocket the fusion core from the suit before you kill them. It forces them out of the frame, which you can then take.

Yes, that's true. yes

I meant that, once killed, you cannot recover the frame.

Go to the armoury on the airship. There should be a suit you can take without it being counted as stealing (be aware that the other suits there will be a crime if you take them).

Ahh no airship yet as I haven't killed Kellog (whoever he is), now it all makes sense. I should probably stop reading this thread until I'm further in the game, at least till I've made it to Diamond City but I'm having too much fun exploring smile

I did put that bit in a spoiler tag!

In fairness, people are being very good at using spoiler tags on here which is why I continue to read.
