I've donethe same mate, my Diamond City gaff is my permanent home, nicely decorated, got my bobblehead and book collection there, a chest for my special weapons and items, and my power suits.

Don't bother putting much junk in the workshop there as you can't set up a supply line, just keep in there a few essentials like Steel etc if you plan to maintain power suits there.

Can't be robbed or attacked either, it's an ideal base away from the other settlements.

Ah, good to know.
Its not that i dont want to do the settlement / resource management side of the game, but it just isnt very intuitive (or i wasnt paying attention when it was explained in-game)

You can if you pick-pocket the fusion core from the suit before you kill them. It forces them out of the frame, which you can then take.
Yes, that's true. yes

I meant that, once killed, you cannot recover the frame.
Interesting!

I started building a house for myself at Sanctuary, but it riled me that (using pre-fab wooden sections) all the wall sections are perfectly straight well-built panels, but the corner sections are full of HUGE gaps and look like they have been nailed together by Stevie Wonder. Whats all that about?? It bothers my OCD.
I don't use the corner sections I use the open sided ones and use the wall filler section to block off the outside open walls. The wall filler is the wooden door sized section that has an angle at the top and fits them perfectly. It's on the wall section of wood building towards the end of the line, appears rotated so the edge is towards you when you select it.

I once saw a gunner standing near an empty T45 or T51 suit and I was hidden. It was clear that as soon as I attacked they'd try to get into it, I killed them as the suit opened. Put my follower into it until we could get back to Sanctuary.

Oh right, will have to have a play around with that then.

Also, for getting people to "move in", you can assign a person to a specific bed when in "build mode" (like assigning people to specific jobs). But I think that's about as "moved in" as they do. I built a shack for my settlers in Sanctuary and just shoved beds in there until Sturges was happy. I think they hotbunk.

I only recently discovered this section under "pre-fabs" - makes it a whole lot easier. I too spent ages with the corners and trying to infill etc.. Now you just stick up a pre-fab and attach a wall. Nice and neat...

X-01 starts appearing at level 26? I found my first set today at level 42 everything up to that point had been T-60, even playing predominantly on Survival.
I'm rocking X-01 at level 29.

It is level dependent (lvl 26+), but up to level 40 or so there is a chance it is T-60 instead. Most people quick save prior to entering an area they know should contain X-01, just in case T-60 spawns instead.

Can't wait for the mods to come out on PC (ie the proper ones, once the GECK is released).

The settlement aspect of this game is going to go nuclear (no pun intended!)

Whats the best way to deal with Mirelurks...not having much luck! I did randomly come across dead guy next to a boat house with 6 stimpaks on him. Then I died when I ran into a legendary glowing mire lurk who, once I hit it with a rocket, mutated and gained all its health back then chopped me down in one hit. On starting again from my save point the dead dude was gone, replaced with a super mutant and his dog. Killed them both and picked up a Gamma gun!

Was pretty excited about that given the high damage. But it seems useless against Mirelurks. Gutted.

I also need to try my Snub-nosed .44 that I found in Eager Ernie's clubhouse. Dealing with them and the robot race was fun!

You need timing. Hitting the shell does pretty much zero damage but hitting the soft underbelly will take them down quick. If you can soak up a bit of damage the bat or shotgun will hit them hard.

A combat shotgun to the face.

However, if you are a "low" level i.e. 20 or lower, I'd say run for it........

If you attack a Mirelurk with a laser weapon you can sometimes see the laser beams reflect off its shell. Pew! Pew! Which is quite amusing (although obviously ineffective). biggrin

yeah level 16 at the moment. Experience from many hours of 3 and NV is getting me by quite well though...

I just noticed how much of a beast you can make the .44! DMG well into the 100's!

Also picked up a second Fatman from the same place now. Wondering if there is a bug? Pretty handy thing to have respawn all the time.

Question on Power Armour...

I didn't realise, until someone mentioned it here, that you could instruct your companion to enter Power Armour.

How on earth do you get them to exit it though?

Not sure if I am missing something with settlement building... There's a lot of talk of building a house, shelter, etc.

What's wrong with just sticking beds in the existing houses? There's plenty of room. Am I missing out by not building my own or is it just the satisfaction from building something from scratch?

Cheers.

Talk to them, it's part of the dialogue system.

Yes but it's more fun to build something, I have incorporated 5 houses in my construction, building up to and on top of a few.
