Not sure if I am missing something with settlement building... There's a lot of talk of building a house, shelter, etc.

What's wrong with just sticking beds in the existing houses? There's plenty of room. Am I missing out by not building my own or is it just the satisfaction from building something from scratch?

Cheers.
Some of the places have minimal room for beds, so you make a little extra building, a nice ladder up and a few machine gun/laser turrets on top...

Or now and again, a nice missile launcher.....

Building something from scratch is much more resource-intensive, obviously, but also lets you be as creative as you like. I've got builds in Sanctuary, Red Rocket, The Castle - well, quite a few of them, actually - that resemble anything from giant apartments blocks to residential piers and everything in between.

Given the state of things outside these settlements, they're about as close to five-star luxury as you could expect in a post-apocalyptic world.

Fair play all. I'm sure I'll get round to it myself but am currently occupied with all the side quests!

I'm level 20 now and haven't really scratched the surface of the main story. I've levelled up pretty much exclusively from cooking stuff! 8)

I need to spend more time doing actual missions I think! whistle

I'm 62 hours in, just hit level 31, and barely got involved with the main story. Mostly been helping the Minutemen, setting up a vast network of (well defended) settlements, defending against attacks (there have been some good ones), and randomly exploring looking for interesting goodies/more power armour...

I'm rocking X-01 at level 29.

It is level dependent (lvl 26+), but up to level 40 or so there is a chance it is T-60 instead. Most people quick save prior to entering an area they know should contain X-01, just in case T-60 spawns instead.
I've got mine fully upgraded. It gets to the point where I don't use it as it's just too strong, so as a challenge I run around in my underwear, makes things very, very hard.

If anyone is struggling with weapons/ammo, buy an oak swatter from the sports guy in Diamond City. Standard it does about 50 damage. If you've got strength and your melee damage up it can deal 150 damage once upgraded. Been using it from the start and I collected thousands of each ammo type from not using guns. Sold all my ammo earlier and earned myself 35,000 caps.

Yeah, mine isn't quite maxed out yet (mk 6 at the moment) but it is a bullet sponge. I've got 50+ power cores, so powering it isn't an issue but it does take away some of the fun. I'm gonna keep using it for my first playthrough though.

I'm saving the melee stuff for my next playthrough.

Next time round I'm creating a character that is a complete psychopath. His backstory is that he is suffering from PTSD before the bombs drop; the murder of his wife and being cryogenically frozen finally push him over the edge.

He will only use melee weapons and hates power armour as it triggers flashbacks. To cope with the PTSD, he constantly uses drugs. He hates people, so all of his dialogue will be negative or sarcastic.

I'm going to set all his inital perk points into strength and agility; once available he'll have the 'idiot savant' perk and 1 intelligence.

He exists purely to cause chaos and beat people to death with a bat evil

Wow you have been busy, I've just obtained a set of X0-1 which even with just the flame paint job seems invincible so maybe to keep a challenge I'll keep it fairly standard.

I think that a lot, last night I kinda rushed a dialogue and ended up killing someone I didn't really want to kill. I think I did the right thing in the eyes of the quest I was following, but they weren't too happy with the death.

Trying my hardest to play as a heartless animal the first time round intending to be nice next time. I am a little dissapointed with the lack of "bad karma" ways to deal with a lot of interactions.

So I finished the first U.S.S Constitution mission last night. Decided to side with the Robots throughout and the results were pretty hilarious laugh

Although

Is there a second one? They're now on top of the building but I don't seem to be able to help them again?

Overall a great mission, the characters and result make it memorable.

In other news, I found the Railroad and thought they were all insane, Synths are just as important as humans? What a load of tosh that is. I murdered them all immediately and got a cool minigun out of it biggrin

There was some kind of special droid in there called P.A.M I think? Apparently could see into the future or something, seemed scared after I spoke to it and kept running away. Felt a bit bad about blasting it away with a shotgun...

Managed to get some more time on this last night. Did the memory quest and got told that I need to go to the glowing sea . Gearing up for that next.

I'm dipping into some more side stuff before heading down there. Have some good, strong weapons, but I'm only level 15 so seem to die easily.

I've never really used melee weapons, so I'll give that a look. smile
