Managed to get some more time on this last night. Did the memory quest and got told that I need to go to the glowing sea . Gearing up for that next.
Be careful out there!

I'm dipping into some more side stuff before heading down there. Have some good, strong weapons, but I'm only level 15 so seem to die easily.
If going to the glowing sea, make sure you take some some power armour and lots of rad away

I've never got on with melee weapons. Even in Skyrim I trained up on archery ASAP in order to get ranged attacks. My style of gameplay is very much "sneak & snipe".

Yup. I'd imagine that it's worthwhile making sure your power armour has the leaded upgrades, as this increases rad resistance. I may head that way over the weekend but have so far been holding off on it.

The one thing I miss from previous games, is the ability to use throwable weapons in VATS.

I'm sure you could chuck grenades when in the targeting system in F3...

Stumbled across my first character with a skull next to his name Sully Mathis down in the quarry at Thicket Excavations Not sure what level they are at but I'm at 15 and got my arse handed to me in about 2 or 3 hits albeit I was hovering at half health at the time. I may invest in that perk that tells you enemies' level and weaknesses in VATS (Awareness I think it is)

Need to find a better strategy than simply hit them head on with a rather underpowered pipe gun. possibly involving the release of those Mirelurks and hope they attack? Earlier in the same place I managed to get my first combat shotgun from a raider only to then die before saving and lose it. Damn it! mad

You definitely could, yes - strikes me enemies are pretty darn accurate with grenades in FO4 whereas the lack of any sort of aiming aid (VATS, visible arc, etc) mean that they are a bit hit and miss unless you are chucking them into an enclosed space whenever I try to use them

Isn't it because it was whatever you had armed yourself with in the Pipboy weapon or grenade. With FO4 you have a weapon and grenade type both selected.

Yes, almost certainly. Throwables were always quite clunky in Fo3 and Fo:NV as they had to be set as your weapon in order to be used. The numeric shortcuts for weapons were invaluable there, for switching to grenade, throwing, then switching back to your gun.

Just went to the glowing sea at level 18 and was a bit disappointed. I've got two of the Rad Resist perks so in my T60 Power Armour my rad resist is about 1020 and I barely felt the rads. The enemies didn't seem up to much either. Not the challenge I was expecting from what I'd read. I'll go back for another wander around to see what kind of loot I can find.

Yes I miss that too, used to love lobbing a Nuka Grenade a hundred feet. Whereas in this I've spent a good deal of time lobbing molotovs at the nearest wall/ceiling and frying my a*se.....

Still no matter how much defence I use Red Rocket keeps getting attacked a lot, it doesn't do anything beyond me hearing shooting and a flash as the sea of defense turrets rip up as super mutant suicider but it's more annoying than anything.

I found a super sledge a bit back and I've started running the power armour all the time so these days stealth is devoid of any presence, however running in like a juggernaut and smashing synths arms off is quite... quite satisfying so I've found some of the fun in it again.

That along with ignoring the main quest and just exploring while doing side quests is much more interesting.

Still just running the BoS T60 armour though, partially upgraded to T60d/e levels I'm yet to find any others. Though nearing lvl 30 now too.

I'm based at the Red Rocket too and have done literally nothing to the place apart from site about 25 basic machine gun turrets around the building with the greatest concentration facing North. There is the odd attack by the Mutants but the guns, Codsworth, dog and Cait seem to keep the place clear.

According to some of the stuff I have seen, having too much food and water can cause attacks.

I believe the defense rating wants to be the same as food+water, but at the same time, don't get too much.

Maybe small barriers like picket fences would stop the suicider.

... or buy a hazmat suit. Super cheap and 1000 rad resistance. You can walk around the Glowing Sea for several minutes with no noticeable effect! I bought mine from a passing caravan!

So I've just discovered that what's hidden behind the inaccessible door at the airport is none other than Liberty Prime. Oh hell yes.

Wow those Children of Atom are annoying - despite having no armour the seem to soak up bullets, all the time blasting their radiation guns, which seem to have insane range and spread. To put it into context with my Sniper Rfile I can one shot kill humans, synths and all but the toughest of Super Mutants. Yet a head shot on these guys barley registers?!

First major glitch has happened for me as well - I was rebuilding some of the castle wishing that they would change the record on Radio Freedom and then it all went quite. The DJ is just stood next to the transmitter saying that it needs power, despite being hooked up and showing its fine - I cant seem to reassign the guy to the transmitter either. Does anyone know if this is going to affect any future minute men missions?

Had a bit of a wtf moment walking through the city just outside the liberty tower, see someone off in the distance walking away..... is that a raider?.... nope.... hmmm he kind of looks like a minute man...... hay... that looks like preston.... I'm sure I left him at the castle.

Hay Preston...

He doesn't know who I am at all, I string him along with sarcasm till he goes 'oh st, you're the general' and high tails it away but gets two steps away before I've remove his leg with a shotgun.

Now I know what you might expect if you've played the game but nope.... just a random guy pretending to be preston. Weird as f...
