Does anyone know if you can get a explosive pipe rifle? I need to find a way of using up the .38 ammo that I have.

What about hunting rifles or combat rifles that can be downgraded to a .38 receiver?

Sell it and buy better ammo with the money.

Yes you can get an explosive pipe pistol and combat rifle - I have both and they can be modded to 0.38 , although you will lose the automatic benefit which is the best thing with these guns - 10+ shots per second + explosive = one fun time

Very interesting! I wonder if you get the explosive damage per pellet rather than a single 15(x2)? How many pellets are there fired from the shotgun? Would that add up?
Bit of research on reddit and it seems that the shotgun shoots 6 pellets. The explosive effect is apparently 15 damage plus 15 area effect damage (also affects the enemy you hit - hence why you can take down two or more enemies at once if they are close). Add the demolition perk and this doubles to 60 extra damage. Multiply this by the 6 pellets = 360, and add in the shotgun damage of 258 = 618 damage per explosive shotgun shell - very similar to the max my Gauss gun does but my shotgun still does 15% more damage - but at least we are getting explaining the difference.

Have also been using my wounding shotgun - which does 25 bleeding damage. Havent used it before because I thought is wasnt very powerful BUT with the 6 pellets per shell, it actually causes 150 bleeding damage and 250 base damage so 400 per shot - nice!!! You can shot a target and the bleeding effect is visible as the life bar goes down AFTER you take the shot. Great fun as the target groans and falls over when it gets to zero and you just stand and watch them. Also works on machine gun turrets - yes they bleed too but dont groan!

I will look out for one! I just don't like selling ammo for some reason. smile

I have started to use a explosive shotgun today (thanks Moog for the tip, worked great). It great for taking down targets esp in doors. Even at decent range the explosive effect is very noticeable. I think I'm still over shoot it a little though. Do you use it suppressed or not?

Also gone back to the spray and pray. Very fun to use and is packing a decent punch now I'm upgrading my commando perk. smile

explosive shotgun = most powerful gun in game
I use mine suppressed - that way I can run in blasting or I can sneak and get the 5.3x sneak damage

Anyone getting legendary items on a few non-legendary kills.
Started happening to me recently.

Couple of fun/weird items I recently picked up:

Freezing flamer - go figure that one
Sentinel Chinese sword - Reduces damage by 15% when standing still and not moving - go figure that one too

Any weird items you've picked up?

So now I'm around lvl60, I decided I should, y'know, look for shaun.

I guess they probably weren't wanting you to come to the main story line so late because its an absolute breeze. Kellog's a hard man they said; 1 shot and down he went like a sack of spuds. The coursers are extremely difficult they said; The chap didn't even have time to become hostile before his head was on the floor and I'd stolen all his clothes. And before that I waltzed through that tower dispatching gunners with consummate ease.

I think I need to up the difficulty a bit. I know I am not all that bothered about having a challenging fire-fight as the story is more interesting. But being able to drop people that easy does seem a little unbalanced even in normal mode. I don't remember old Fallouts being that easy.

Fair enough my main weapons are the last minute and sniper plasma rifle, but even my .44 drops raiders and ghouls in one shot.

I've got a tato issue... I've got roughly 20 tato plants at Sanctuary Hills, but I always have to harvest them manually. Corn, purified water, mutfruit... they're all placed in the workshop by my assigned workers, but not the tato's. Reading on the wikia suggest there is an issue, but only on PC. I have this issue on PS4. Anyone else with the same issue? If so, have you found a fix?

I think they have a balancing issue. I've just cracked level 50 (125hrs) I did the Courser mission a while back and whilst it wasn't a walk in the park it wasn't hard either and the main man was a relative breeze and I was about 10 levels lower back then.
Almost nothing I come across is much of a threat anymore and you don't even need cover if you rock power armour which I only tend to wear for the extra carry capacity.
I have more resources than I know what to do with, 50k of caps and thousands of rounds of most ammo types.

Who have you got harvesting them? If its a named companion/one of the survivors you rescue at the start (preston etc), there's a known bug where they are farming what ever for the stat but fail to actually produce anything.

Best bet is to have them on guard posts. Or shops.

Expect a nerf soon if that's the case. Borderlands 2 had the same thing with the Conference Call shotgun when combined with The Bee shield. So OP it was insane. Terramorphous (fixed for you smile) didn't know what hit him. Pity I was late to the party on that one and still haven't taken that Boss down to this day ....
O/T but its still soloable, done it several times pre and post nerf. pre-nerf he lasts all of 3 seconds.

Post, when you drop down, head to the left and there's a rock. You can jump onto there and take cover from him so you cant be hit, then just pop up and shoot when ready.

Indeed.... I don't have 5 figure cap balance but I have tons and tons of useless ammo that I don't use which is basically just as good currency wise. Bobby pins? I have 100's, don't even need to bother with the final lock picking perk. Stimpaks? 100's again, radaway, rad x, mentats etc...

Definitely should play on a harder setting, but to be honest it feels like I kinda shouldn't have to. Found FO3 and NV challenging enough on normal modes; even at high level you weren't taking death claws and those horrid flying-ant-come-wasp things down in one shot.

Really confused actually about what purpose mentats actually serve? I am sure in the old game the level of your intelligence dictated if you could hack a terminal. So mentats came in useful if you needed a temporary boost to get you past a certain terminal. But now hacking is a perk thing that you level up. So what do you use mentats for?

Intelligence gives you more XP per action, so they work as an XP boost.

You also need intelligence to do certain things on specific quests, such as repairing the Constitution.

ETA: You should play on survival difficulty if you're at that level, it also spawns more "legendary" enemies, so better loot too!

A bit like all the other chems - absolutely nothing at all. Never taken any of them except for RadAway. I must have hundreds in the workshop at Sanctuary by now and I keep meaning to sell some of them off but traders / vendors simply don't have enough caps on them most of the time. So they gather virtual dust in the workshop.

I'm cruising around at level 65 now playing on very hard, the only goals I have at the moment is a) collecting all of the magazines (I've got 17 to go) and b) building a custom set of Power Armour specifically for exploring the Glowing Sea

After that, I think I'm probably done with it until the DLC / console mods appear

But there is no challenge enemy wise - Overseer's G / explosive shotgun & minigun / Spray 'n Pray make short work of more or less everything. Even The Last Minute barely gets a look in these days

Never had much luck trying to solo that guy and I've tried all sorts of hide away strategies, he always seemed to get me in the end. I may re-visit "The Handsome Collection" and give it another go once my time with Fallout 4 comes to a natural end

Well bugger... I've got the crazy old addict and mr. and mrs. Nagging bh' working the tatos. I'll assign them to the shops and get the shopkeepers on food duty then.
