I'm torn about doing settlements in my survival mode play through. I hate it and didn't bother when I started a new character a wee while ago but I can see the benefit of having a supply chain running so you can just dump crafting junk at somewhere nearby. Also having a network of safe sleeping places is bound to be handy. I might still leave Preston at Concord but do some of the random settlement side quests.

I think you would be silly not too. with no fast travel option you cant really have a 'main' base, you want to be able to goto your nearest settlement knowing all your gear is there.Cant imagine you want to cross half the map because you ran out of ammo!
Well I don't know what Bethesda have done to Fo4 with the latest patch but I get a CTD almost immediately every time I try to run it.
I have updated NMM and reinstalled all plugins and mods, not that I use many. I only have the widescreen fix and Homemaker Expanded Settlements installed. That's it.
And I've even disabled the latter, which means the *only* mod I have installed is the Widescreen Fix and I can't do without that obviously.
Not impressed.

You have to make sure that your plugins don't unselect themselves after you have exited Nexus Mod Manager.
My routine.
Open NMM (to check for updates etc...) all plugins selected.
Start Fallout 4 (via the F4SE in NMM or via my F4SE shortcut)
Fallout starts
Select game to load - missing all plugins
exit.
Start NMM select all plugins.
Start via F4SE again.
Game loads ok.
If one of your plugins, most likely the widescreen fix puts something else in the data folder, fallout.ini file or prefs file or something else that is linked to the plugin then it may well crash if the plugin is missing.
It's all to do with https://mods.bethesda.net/#en/workshop/fallout4 their own mod website (which has got some of the Nexus mods already on it) which has been done for Xbox/PS4 users. But like the Steam Workshop when it comes to Bethesda mods I won't touch it with a very long stick.

Update:
I disabled even the Widescreen Fix. Still CTD. I then closed down Flawless Widescreen, and that fixed it - I can now load my savegame without a CTD.

....and this is why I don't mod games.
Reminds me of my mates, jailbreaking their iPhones, then an update would come out every few weeks and knacker everything.
Manufactures don't want you jail breaking their phones. Reminds me of my mates, jailbreaking their iPhones, then an update would come out every few weeks and knacker everything.
Bethesda are actively encouraging mods. Yes a few may cause unknown issues, but the trick is too not add a mod until other people (guinea pigs?) have installed them and reported any issues / issues have been fixed.
Mods can greatly enhance a game and make it more to suit your individual style of play. Some are silly. But I highly recommend them.

Indeed. It's not comparing like-for-like at all.
The fact that Bethesda have just released the Creation Kit for Fallout 4 means mods are now 'easy' to create proves this.Mods are about to get a whole lot better!

So, Jake Jones (see earlier post) is enthusiastically doing everything the BoS tells him to do. And now Liberty Prime is on the cards. Yay.
But I wonder if either Bethesda have messed up continuity with Fo3 or whether I have misunderstood what is being said. I thought that Liberty Prime was pre-war tech that the BoS had been desperately trying to get working again in Fo3, and then succeeded in doing so (and then of course it was destroyed by the Enclave). But in Fo4, Doctor Madison Li says she was part of the design team for Liberty Prime and she worked on it after Project Purity. That would make Liberty Prime post-war tech.
What am I missing here?

Presumably she's referring to rebuilding it after it was destroyed in the broken steel DLC for fallout 3But I wonder if either Bethesda have messed up continuity with Fo3 or whether I have misunderstood what is being said. Ok, so she was on the rebuild team. But just now in Fo4 she claimed to have been on the original design team. Or so it seemed to me (maybe I misheard her?) which can't be the case as Prime is pre-war tech. Or, it was in Fo3 anyway. Hence my question. It's liberty prime MK2 in fallout 4

Why are you questioning the Brotherhood solider? Get back to work!AndrewEH1 said:

Why are you questioning the Brotherhood solider? Get back to work! But seriously, Proctor Ingram definitely just said that Dr. Li was one of Prime's original designers. That simply is not so as in Fo3 Prime was pre-war tech.
I'm confused. Gin my be involved.

Going by the wiki http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Liberty_Prime Dr. Li helped on 'original' build when the Brotherhood first found it Post-War.But seriously, Proctor Ingram definitely just said that Dr. Li was one of Prime's original designers. That simply is not so as in Fo3 Prime was pre-war tech.

I guess it was just a mistake in the script.

I think you are right. It's poor scripting - because 'designers' suggests inception which she can't possibly have been involved with. Maybe 'restorers' or 'repairers' or 'technical archaeologists' would have been more appropriate. I guess it was just a mistake in the script.
Anyway, I'm in the middle of following Liberty Prime on its assault mission, which is not unlike the one in Fo3 (as in, follow, assist, but mostly watch it cuts a swathe through foes).
High point so far has been it picking a Supermutie Behemoth by its head, shaking it around a bit, and then tossing the now-lifeless body aside.
Edit: The one thing that I really didn't like, though, was that the Institute is meant to be buried deep, deep underground, far beyond the reach of any detectors, or nuclear bombs, and the only way in and out is via the Relay. And then Liberty Prime scans the area, finds that the top part of the Institute is only 20 feet down through loose sand, and dirt, and bores an entrance with his Eye Layzors. Just seemed a bit dissatisfying to me although, in fairness, it was probably the only way that Bethesda could have involved Liberty Prime.

Started a new game last night, now that survival is "properly" out. This is more like it! I built a bed early on in Sanctuary and I'm just making sure I get all the loot off the island. Took searching all the houses until I managed to find any bobby pins - typical. Now I have to backtrack to find their safes...
