Both forays out of Sanctuary resulted in my death. I need to get used to looking for beds! My real problem is the apparent complete lack of healing I am getting from food items... (it says "HP 0"!)

The Far Harbour download size is 2.68 GB that's about the size of Skyrim's Dragonborn and Dawnguard dlc combined.

Also you can start a new game and go to Far Harbour straight away, you don't need to be at a certain level to trigger it. So it'll play like the main game with the AI levelling up as you do.

Anyone from the console player able to confirm whether the update has appeared yet? I was hoping it would've came out yesterday but no luck.
Friday for the 1.5 console update according to Bethesda Twitter ...

Trailer for Far Harbour looks good, should just about have cracked Uncharted 4 by the release date thumbup Be good to get back to FO4, I bypassed Wasteland Workshop altogether

I just finished the BoS ending.

I have to say that it made no sense whatsoever. Why would the BoS destroy the Institute completely like the Railroad does? I can understand the Railroad doing it - they hate the Institute and don't care if the world burns. Typical single-focus group.

But the BoS? I would have thought they would have committed to a room-by-room purge in order to preserve the facility for study by their Scribes and Proctors, and also to preserve the teleportation technology for study and duplication. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever for them to destroy the facility.

Yet more half-arsed half-baked inconsistent baffling motivation and poor story, I guess.

And then they hide away such amazing background lore as this in a way that only the most in depth investigating (in game) will ever find. Who signed off on hiding the raider stories so well? They could have had far more characterisation and maybe some faction interplay... but no, they're all faceless idiots with rubbish guns.

The problem with Fallout is that Bethesda has always rewarded those who read every note they pick up and every terminal they come across with additional lore and side quests. Which is good for the more casual player who just wants to run about shooting everything, but annoying for those who want the complete experience!

But surely if you want the complete experience then you do want to read every note you pick up and every terminal you come across. That's something that Besthesda do right, in my opinion. I also love that some of these little back-stories don't have any quest associated with them - it's just 'flavour'.

It's ironic that in Fo4, Bethesda have got the detail so right and yet the broad brush strokes so wrong.

I think that the world building has become so good that the mechanics of going through the story quests can feel a bit tedious and restrictive. I love wandering around the commonwealth but I'm yet to finish the main quest line.

I had the same problem with the last gen of Rockstar games, I loved the worlds of GTA4 and RDD but found the gameplay dull and repetitive. They manage to reinvigorate it somewhat with GTAV. Hopefully Bethesda will do the same as we go forward with Fallout and the next Elder Scrolls.

It's partially why I'm looking forward to survival mode so much, it sounds like it really make me think about the way I play.

Anyone else doing a survival mode run?

I can't decide if I like it more or less, but it definitely changes the way I play. I find I'm spending hours at a big settlement optimising every single thing in my inventory, making sure I'm 100% ready, then run out to blitz everything as quick as I can and sprint back to the settlement for a sleep.
I did get caught out a couple of times and just barely won a big battle but I'm miles away from a bed... I think my character must be getting a sore back from all the crouching.

Considering the daft amount of time I have spent playing this game since release I found 5 new locations last night that I have never been to / seen before, which shows just how much effort they have put into this game.

I am waiting for mods to arrive on console before I start a new play through and download the extra DLC.

Some of the mods available on PC look great - particularly hoping the Old World Radio mod will make its way to console.

Oh I like the idea of that mod.

My biggest problem with Fallout in general is that there is either not enough, or too much, devastation to be be convincing. If people are thriving then dead bodies, peeling paint, junk and crap will have long been cleared away. Or if an area is devastated then it should be so utterly. In that respect the Glowing Sea is the only really credible thing, but that is a little sparse sadly.

yes

Like the woman living in, and operating a store out of a ruined diner- whilst some of the seats are still occupied by the TWO HUNDRED year old skeletons of former customers, with the remains of their final meals still sat on the tables... rotate

I find this aspect of the game much easier to accept simply by imagining the game is set just a few years after the bombs rather than 200 (and ignore the whole radiation issue)!

Given the thriving population in F4, after 200 years I'd expect a smaller, but largely rebuilt civilization with fully functioning social/political/technological systems and clean sofas! Not a largely untouched wasteland that looks as though everyone died/upped sticks & left just a few months before you exit the vault.

I know it's a game and you always expect a ton of artistic license, but the 200 years thing is just so utterly & comprehensively at odds with every single aspect of the world they have created that it becomes jarring every single time it's referenced.

If a mod ever appears which ret-cons this somehow I'll be all over it in a flash.

I had so little sympathy when I first met her it's unreal. Of course your son is addicted to drugs, he was brought up by a mother who can't even be arsed to REMOVE THE HUMAN REMAINS FROM THEIR SEATS before making that place their 'home'! I even witnessed her sat eating a meal at one of the tables, alongside a 200 year old skeleton... What the actual??!!

I mean come on, if that's the height she's setting the bar at, I can't imagine her 'parental responsibilities' resume stands up to much scrutiny... Frankly I'm amazed he made it to the age he is.

I let the two disgruntled raiders do what they needed to do, I judged the situation to be the conclusion of a long series of events- which would have been entirely avoidable had that woman not been so totally & utterly lacking in basic cleanliness/hygiene, and figured it was probably the kindest thing for them in the long run. getmecoat

If you are playing survival I recommend (if you are on a PC) to get the Campsite - Simple Wasteland Camping mod.

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/11734/?

Carry a tent, sleeping bag, cooking equipment and more with you then set it up, even set up a marker beacon which if you are not playing on survival can fast travel to. If on survival it's a map marker. It can be packed up and take with you again.

I found a nice spot with a private pool just by the Dam.

Just tried it, apart from the sounds and no optimisation (so pop up textures) it looks very interesting. Didn't get any frame rate drops either which is surprising, but then I usually use Vivid HD landscapes, Verdant Wasteland and More grass anyway and it actually seemed better.

Lot of textures installed in loose dds format like this means you can get missing textures when you move from cell to cell I ran from Sanctuary to Red Rocket and the road just disappeared at Red Rocket, just a rocky foundation everywhere and Red Rocket was just it's low res LOD. It needs to be packed up in a bsa for better handling. But then it is a beta test.
