I use the legendary gun "Spray 'n Play" for quick explosive high fire rate when I need to due to the lack of the assault rifle but as you say, you need to be careful else self crippling (best case) or dead (worst case) becomes the norm if those damn ghouls get too close hehe

The auto explosive shotgun is also brilliant for blowing yourself up when in enclosed spaces and being ambushed by ghouls, lost count of the number of times I've done that

Overseer's Guardian is still my go to weapon though - still pretty potent now that I've full upgraded "Gunslinger" (that's the perk I couldn't recall in my previous post) and it won't kill you either

For Ghouls on the island, Le Fusil Terribles is my go-to weapon. Aim at the legs, and then pick them off when they can't chase you.

Mines and the The Last Minute are my preferred option (with the targeting quad-barrel rocket launcher as backup).

I've found the perk that stops broken bones is pretty useful when I'm using an explosive weapon, still waiting to find an explosive combat rifle or minigun. A fun little thing is my fully auto explosive pipe pistol, great way to use up those tens of thousands of .38 ammo

Came across an Albino Hermit Crab yesterday, sniped him with a fully upgraded 'The Last Minute' - fully charged headshot with sneak attack - barely took 10% off its health eek
I came across that (normal not Albino) as my new start is only about level 15 currently, playing on very hard not survival as I need quick save points. Ran away like a little girl as my pop gun didn't even dent it's health, thought I had run away far enough. No it was still coming, more running, dive down a slope straight into an Angler, quick run away again, Hermit Crab still coming, found a building protected by a Yao Guai much running and shooting, killed it moved around the front to enter, I didn't spot the mines.

I've made a point not to upgrade the stealth perk that removed the bomb & mine triggers on this play through, I still forgot though.

If you've got Far Harbor, go and pay the Shipbreaker a visit :-)

I have Far Harbour.

Where is the Shipbreaker?

I've been using companions in my survival play through, which I've never done before. I've lost Nick just as O was planning on heading to Far Harbour. Is there a good way to find lost companions? I thought about getting another companion to see if it would send Nick home but it means trekking all the way up to Sanctuary Hills.

How did you lose him, just whilst travelling or when you dismissed him, or when he left you after completing one of his companion quests, Kellogs house search for exmple?

If you haven't dismissed him, go into a building (load screen) and then back out again he may be back with you.
If you have dismissed him without giving ever him a settlement to go to he will go back to his agency in Diamond City.

I think he has to go back to his agency anyway for Far Harbour to start.

In Diamond City, I'd been messing around in my house then went to start the Far Harbour quest. When I came Back out of his agency he'd disappeared. I had a look around diamond city and left to go to a loading screen to see if he'd spawn but there's no sign of him. I hope he hasn't just disappeared as he's using Kellog's pistol.

I had the same issue a few days and did exactly that. It rezzed me under the bridge at Sanctuary and Nick was nowhere to be seen. So I walked up to where Preston and his gang were pointlessly hitting the walls with hammers, and built a bell. Rang it, and everyone came over to me and Nick was amongst them. I asked him to follow me and we were back on.

I thought of that but wanted to check if there was a way to check where he is before I trek all the way up the map. I remember that companions appeared on local maps in New Vegas but that doesn't seem to be the case in this.

I'm on PS4 so no console commands, they're cheating anyway wink.

Do a full save where you are, then change the setting to easy and fast travel to a nearby location and trek up the rest to check, then quit, change the game setting back to survival and load the save game.

Low carry capacity is dire in Survival! I'm opting for pocketed variants of armour over greater DR at the moment, just to try to carry anything. I'm having to be much more careful in combat, I am learning rapidly though.

If I remember correctly it's up in the north of the island - follow the radio signal once you start the quest.

I tell you what, all of the fog effects in Far Harbor really brings the frame rate down on the PS4 version - very chuggy performance in places frown

True, but Bethesda promised to make updates/improvements very soon.

Or you could just spend the money on a decent gaming platform like a PC. winkbiggrin
