Try it with the other cars - imho the FXX is a bit off.

The elises seem OK and predictable.

I generally find with sims that the faster slick shod cars like the FXX aren't as much fun to drive as the slower cars like the Elise et al. Also, the faster cars require a different skill set to real life racing.. With those faster cars like the FXX, the optimum slip angle is very small and across a very small window, so in real life you drive almost exclusively on feel, but in a sim you have to rely on fast reactions, which surprisingly isn't a motorsport skill at all and I feel out of my depth (esp compared to a lot of the guys hot lapping on AC who are half my age and used to playing computer games!). In the slower cars, like the Evora or E30 M3, those cars continue to present their information to the driver in a sim as visuals (bigger slip angle - you can see the limit like you'd feel it in real life), so an experienced driver in real life can pick up a sim, get used to visuals rather than feel, and then drive in a prediction based manner (which is what motorsport is all about - reading the car, not reacting to it). Proof of this is my times on RSR - I'm much higher up the lap time chart in the slow cars than the quick ones. My real life experience is actually in the faster cars, but I just can't translate it to a sim, in fact the car in AC most like the one I used to race is the Formula Arbarth, and I'm hopeless in it, whereas the Evora or E30 M3, the likes of which (over 1000kg, soft suspension etc) I've never raced before in real life, I'm inside the top 10 around several tracks. That's because with the cars that have bigger slip angles, the visuals can replace the skills learnt from feel in real life. I'm sure I'm not alone in this on here, as this is PH and most of us are car nuts in real life and probably do track days etc?

I've now quit racing in real life (why I'm playing AC so much), and have a 2-Eleven for track days. Even that in AC though isn't really much fun for me. It's actually heavier and slower than the cars I used to race, so in real life it's no issue to drive on the limit in, but it has quite a small operating window and in AC you end up driving on reactions, so I'm totally out of my depth.

The Lotus 49 is the exception to all of this; it's ludicrously fast, but it runs on 1967 tyres which have a very large optimum slip angle and quite a large optimum slip window too. I really enjoy it on AC, as I did GPL all those years ago smile I think that explains the success of GPL too - it worked on a sim.

I'd agree with all of that. I've done more laps in the Elise SC and M3 than anything else, I think. Perhaps the 458 might creep in, too.

Cracking - nice work. Any chance of some setup advice if you've tweaked it?

I think my wheel is about right now, it's a DFP Pro if anyone else has one and it's not on the preset list but is recognised when I assign buttons. I've been in and out of the Windows controller settings and AC settings but I think I have it. Pending tweaks.

Done a few laps with the FXX best time 1m46.9s screenie below, but I'm afraid once I saw the Lotus 49 and Monza 1966 I got a bit carried away. smile

Odd shaped screen I know but I wanted to just grab the time but then though the wheel might prove it's the FXX. Pro settings but auto clutch on (I don't have a clutch pedal) does that matter?

<-- Click me (Ps I did crash here, trying to go quicker)

Once I get it all sorted out I might do some movie captures, I have AC gfx settings on max and fps fell to 30fps with on the fly capture but what was captured looked more like 1fps. So I'll see what it's like capturing a replay.

Ps, I'll have to get my TrackIR setup for this as well, it's currently on Cliffs of Dover duty but it might get reassigned biggrin

I got the TrackIR working easily, using the rFactor Profile - http://youtu.be/txjrozdGop8 (not driving, I don't move about as much as this, unless I'm crashing)

That's quick! Well done smile Not sure I can match that.

I'm on to the Evora now and down to a much les frantic 2:13.036. Curiously the RSR app is still disregarding some of my laps. I've looked into it and it has its own lap validation system, and looking at its log files it's discarding some of my laps for going off the track. The thing is that I'm not going off the track in my opinion, and I genuinely can't work out where it thinks I am, so I'm a bit stuck!

ETA: I've watched the replay and I'm putting about a cm or two of rear tyre over the edge of the kerb on a couple of corners. It matches the log file, so that's what it is! Strange that RSR is more stringent than AC on that front.

I have no idea how you'd even be that fast with a controller - well done!

Multiplayer and AI are both being worked on and it's rumored that AI will be in the next release - but they won't confirm it until it's ready.

using the controller isnt to bad as long as the car doesnt get out of shape. Once it gets sideways its really tricky to sort out. I also have auto clutch and downshift blips on.

Down to 2:03 now so I think sub two mins is possible. Will get the app downloaded tonight and give it a crack

Off to eBay for a steering wheel and pedals I think...

Will have a go at this over the next few days - glad there seems to be a lot of interest in it!

Looking forward to when the mods start rolling out etc.

Found a lot more time, it's just difficult to be consistent.

I've added Altrezia's time. I've not driven it anymore as it's just so reactionary, which is weird for me and I find it too hard to be consistent. No matter how slow I drive in real life, each lap is usually within a tenth of the last, but in this car on AC I'm sometimes losing five tenths! I've not crashed it yet, I just find I'm making mistakes that I can't avoid because I can't feel thrm coming.

I think there's a fair amount of subtlety but it's very close on the limit.

I'm working hard with the wheel - it certainly isn't 'point & shoot'.

Anyway - next week the winner can chosse something different.

Altrezia needs to be on RSR for the lap to be valid so we're all using the same parameters.
