Assetto Corsa - Time Trial
Discussion
Right, tried a bit more, but no. Annoying because there's fairly clearly still a second or more within reach overall, but can't grasp it.
Sauber Mercedes C9, Monza (New)
Horse before the cart and all that, but if you do want me to pick something for next week, I suggest the Formula Abarth (under Tatuus) and Imola.
Justification being it's a fairly pure racing experience, what with it having almost infinite grip, and thus it's all about lines, gears, braking points and so on. And no boost. A souped-up go kart is probably not everyone's cup of tea, I understand, but I quite like the flat out style of it. And of course I'll come last.

I had a wee go.
The biggest failing of this game in not including a Brake Pressure Setting in the set up.
I'm sick and tired of these cars that lock up the minute you even think about touching the brake.
Not everyone can afford, or want to pay for top spec pedal sets with Load Cells.
Even messing about with the in-car bias or the Control Setting Brake Gamma doesn't sort it. Around half pedal-ish and the car locks up and ploughs on.
It really is disappointing.

Hmm, I know what you mean, although I suspect I'm not asking so much from it. Have you seen there are spring mods (much cheaper than a whole pedal mod) that have three different sections?
Anyway, you beat my best time on your second recorded lap!
I'm currently on 1:49.487, the chicane letting me down, so there's a bit more in it without much trouble.
Have you changed the car setup at all, other than soft tyres?

Are you guys fully depressing and releasing the brake pedal before you drive anywhere? So get in the car with the engine running and the controls active, but instead of driving off, push the brake pedal all the way down and then let it back again? If I don't do that every time I start AC and drive then the first 10% of my brake pedal travel gives 100% brake actuation, but if I do that it means 100%=100% and it feels normal.
Yup - I do that as well as a matter of course.
I guess it also doesn't help that I drive a Porsche as a daily as well - probably one of the last mainstream manufacturers whose brakes still need a hefty shove, as apposed to the usual over servoed rubbish on most other cars.
Trash - interestingly, having been frustrated with the brakes for ages, I ordered a spring last week. Should be with me soon - it'll be interesting to see if that improves things. I'll also move the brake spring to the clutch, and the clutch spring to the throttle.

Just thought I'd check If you both do the brake pedal trick when you start then yes, the brake pressure mod is a very popular mod. A couple of my friends used to put a squash ball behind the pedal; that can also work.
I agree about Porsche brakes, in fact I think they have the best brake pedal weighting and progression of any modern servo assisted car that I've tried. The revealing thing was when J Plato took Atomic Kitten (or some girl band like that) out driving Porsches at Silverstone and they complained that the Porsche brakes were rubbish, plus that's a recurring thread on the Caterham forums wih regard to their brakes - this shows us why most modern cars have such awful sensitive brakes: people think sensitivity = good brakes, plus of course they never heel and toe, where a sensitive brake pedal is a nightmare (it slows me down a fair bit in AC actually).

Just me and Trash then?
I've been a bit busy the last few days and when I've had the time, I've been online at the 'Ring.Congrats on winning the last competition, that was an impressive time in a challenging combination!
I will try and put a few laps in this week and post a time.
Ah, I'm dog slow but I feel like I'm getting there eventually. Haven't put any time in since GTA V came out though.
Formula Abarth, Imola
Still interested in what people are changing in the setup - feels like there's a bit more potential in there, but I'm a bit clueless.

This car may seem like a pussy cat because it initially appears to have lots of grip but you need to wring it to within an inch of its life! You have to be very aggressive yet balance on that knife edge of over-driving the car.
What's your thoughts Joe?
I agree, also trail braking is key here, you can brake much deeper into corners than you first think. Short shifting can also help in some places, as can staying a gear higher than you might think. For example, 3rd for the hairpin and tight chicane. What's your thoughts Joe?
Turn 1, don't be too greedy, as a wider line into 2 is better for speed down the straight, same with 3 and 4 (or 4 and 5 if you count the kink as a corner)
Try and avoid oversteer on the corner exits as it really bogs down.
