What are the chances that that flying kid with the gas mask is a young Psycho Mantis, or at least somewhat related to him?
I thought the guy on fire was The Fury from MGS3 the predecessor (timeline wise) to this. Can't be as Big Boss killed him in MSS3 though.
Funny, that's what I thought as well!

In terms of cut scenes this has the least of any Metal Gear game to date, MGS2 was riddled with them, this has a few at the start and then they come up once every five hours or so, lasting a few minutes tops.

Anyone put off by the looks of those early couple of hours should really re-consider.
This is exactly what I wanted to read, thanks. biggrin

I've managed not to yet laugh

Did Mission 6 last night, 1 hr 28 mins laugh

Cool encounter with Skullface and The Skulls, quite a tense mission to be fair, difficult stealth and lots of planning and patience required, ended up with a B ranking which I was quite pleased with considering

7 Side-Ops done now I believe, base is full of staff, upgrading nicely.

Oh, bears are tough, don't try to fight them laugh

Picked this up on Wednesday afternoon for the PC (£33 ish if anyone is considering it, I'll link to the place I got it from).

I've put in around 15-20 hours so far and it is incredible! For starters, the game engine is really well optimised on the PC. I'm running a R9 290X and everything is full specs with no drop in frame rate; bear in mind that running GTAV and a few other AAA titles at highest quality had caused frame rate issues. So well done to Konami on getting that right.

Game wise; there are a lot less cutscenes that previous MGS titles and most of these are at the start to build the story. After mission 2/3, the game really opens up and there is plenty of running around, doing your own thing.

From what I've seen so far, this game has some serious depth. I'm at mission 7 and I've done 15 odd side ops; I've only got 7% completion. There is so much to unlock, it is amazing how big the game is.

You spend most of your time scoping out enemy positions and sneaking around; but the sense of achievement when everything comes off right is fantastic.

There is a real ability to complete missions as you see fit. If you don't want to stealth, you don't have to. It is a lot harder 'going loud' but with the ability to call in helicopter support and buddies, it can be done.

The customisation level is very indepth and you're constantly finding things you can tweak visually. Most of this doesn't become unlocked until midway through the game (including custom weapon loadouts), but it is all there. It is quite exciting when you're playing through the game and something unlocks or you try something different and it works; you have a little 'no fking way' moment. There is a guy I work with, who is also playing it. He's a good few missions ahead of me and I'm explaining how I completed a mission and he is like 'Whoa, you can actually do that? I didn't know...'. There is a lot of that in this game.

Graphics? Stunning. The only grumble is the hair looks a bit st; it just looks too wiry and pixelated.

The story is very interesting. I haven't properly played a MGS since the original, MGS on the PS1. I put a few hours into Snake Eater and GotP, but never completed them. You can still play this without the originals, but quite a few websites have a summary of the storyline to bring you up to speed.

In summary; a very good game. It isn't made for the CoD generation, it requires time and patience. There is a lot to do and a good few hundred hours of gameplay. The best way to describe it is a blend of Far Cry 3/4 and Red Dead Redemption.

9.5/10

It loses half a point due to annoying movie style credits at the start of missions (giving plot points away!) and Miller constantly on the radio explaining stuff 100x to me (I know it's a fking carrot!!!).

Completely agree with that review. Although I'm playing on PS4 and I'm very impressed with how it runs. The graphics - especially on the scenery and landscapes - are fantastic.

I've yet to encounter any frame rat drops (that are noticeable) or glitches. It runs silky smooth and looks superb, and even loading times and the like aren't bad for a game of this size either.

The Fox engine really is top notch.

I've seen PS4 footage and, to me, it looks no different to the PS3 version, graphics wise confused

There should be some videos on Youtube of side-by-side comparisons.

I have to disagree though I think it looks very next-gen. I have Ground Zeroes on PS3 and the difference is certainly there with the PS4.

I don't know if it runs at a constant 60 FPS but it definitely seems very smooth. I've been playing the Witcher 3 for the past few weeks and although that's also graphically very pretty, it does suffer from low frame rates that I've yet to encounter on MGS.

True, but it's quite fun to watch the Russkies go mental with no clue where you are

Two of the best. I'm in if it's even half as good as either of those.

Good review. Thanks.

I'd say it was on par with both.

I'm very 'flitty' when it comes to computer games and will usually get bored of most within a week. This means I have loads of games where I've played only 50% before dropping them.

My list of games that I've actually completed and then played again is small:

Far Cry 3
Red Dead Redemption
MGS
Final Fantasy 7/8/9
Command and Conquer (All)
Mechwarrior 3/4
Bioshock Infinite
GTA V

and that's probably it.

I'm convinced already that I MGS V will make that list; it really is that good.

Apparently later on in the game you rescue 3 legendary gunsmiths. Once you have them, you can customise any weapon you have developed.

So if you want a sniper tranq rifle with a suppressor; happy days.
