I'd recommend you do take at least some control of it, if you go into Staff Management and click in R3 (on PS4, would be the right thumbstick on XBox) you can then choose to let it auto-assign staff to the unit that suits them best. Otherwise the game will put a genius-level surgeon for the Medical team into the Combat team if the Medical team is already full, by getting it to auto-place them you can make sure everyone is where they are best-suited.
I was under the impression (from what I've read anyway) that the auto-assigning option will put someone in the best unit; if the unit is full, it moves the lowest ranked person to the waiting list or into another unit that suits them. If they are in the waiting list for a certain amount of time, they get dismissed.

So if you have a A+ ranked medic, but the medic unit is full, Auto-assign will remove the lowest ranked soldier (an E or D grade) out and move your A+ one in.
It does, which is what I was trying to get to in a roundabout way, what does happen is that if you've got a full Medical team and 5 spaces left in your R&D team, with no-one in your waiting room, you then fulton 5 new recruits, it will put those in the R&D team because the space is there, without intelligently shuffling the existing staff around. It's only once you go back in and auto-assign them that the shuffling happens.
Great info, thanks guys

far as i'm aware it constatly auto arranges based on their best stat only. it doesn't take into account if they are a specialist in that area. so its worth checking your waiting room to see if you have someone that has the same rank but with an extra skill like surgeon etc.. and swap that with someone that has no skill.

Definitely worth doing a bit of manual assigning now and again. I did what the previous poster suggested - had a handful of A rank guys in different teams that were, for example, B rank at R&D. So by temporarily assigning them to R&D team, it levelled up and allowed me to develop some important equipment.

I then went back to auto-assign.

It's also worth keeping on top of the Combat Deployment, they can earn as much GMP and resources as a Main Mission, so be sure ti always have people out working.

I'm just about to start Mission 13. Just noticed too, my current loadout doesn't have any lethal guns in it..

You're obviously not as evil as me; I have a tendency to tranq/stun a guard, drag him out of sight and then check his stats. If he isn't good enough, I whip out my rifle and make his incapacitated status a little more 'permanent'... hehe

I've been burnt too many times with people waking back up at annoying moments.

As you can tell, I'm not really going for the S ratings and I'm probably going to become Demon Snake very shortly.

Standard loadout for me is scoped and suppressed assault rifle, suppressed tranq sniper and the tranq pistol.

Do really like this game
Not so much of a fan about the whole assigning people to a team, that should just be automatically done.
Unlocking items is fine.
building a base, again, seems a bit pointless.
I wish there were more cinematics, best bit of the old MGS's were the cinematic segments (I have played and completed every single console based MGS from PS1 through to PS3) and loved them.

Do enjoy the gameplay and free-roam element of this. Gives you many ways to do things. Proper tense. About 13 hours and 3 missions in

The game is brilliant so far. I'm not very far in though! Been spending far too much time messing around in side missions. Only just on the Honey Bee mission (I think that's what it is called), although have yet to complete it.

Can't wait for D-Dog to grow up, not that the horse doesn't have its uses.

I honestly can't put this down. Game of the year for me so far.

Just in Africa now, completed Mission 14 and most available Side Ops.

Must say, Africa seems much tougher than Afganistan, I think the terrain is less forgiving as there's not as good visibility or vantage points. The guards also seem more heavily armed.

I guess it's only fair though now that I've developed a fair amount of weapons and items, also got Quiet as a buddy now smile

I picked this up last Friday and im currently on Mission 13. The first 30-45 mins was epic and that was what I remembered about Metal Gears, the long and frequent cut scenes. I still think the Raidon scene on MG4 with the 2 footed robot cow things was one of the best things I have scene in a game.

This Metal gear seems up to now to be lacking the cut scenes. Maybe its a different direction as there is far for more free roaming in V. The game itself is fantastic and without doubt my Favourite game of the year, For me I think Far Cry 4 still edges it thou but its close.

Does anyone have any idea what the base expansions are for other then upgrades and command missions? I mean is there a point where it gets used, Ie online etc. Feel free to message me to avoid spoilers. cheers. Only askng as im sure it said during start up once that my base can be attacked.

Anyone done Mission 11 with the sniper yet?

I was struggling with beating Quiet as I wanted to tranq her, until I saw online that you can just drop a couple of supply crates on her head to knock her out!

So simple, yet so utterly brilliant. I love this game.

Yes, once you get past Mission 20 you can start to invade other players online and have them invade you, so having a base with lots of defences is key there.

I knew this prior to starting the mission but couldn't get it to work!

I stayed at the starting point the whole time, luring waiting until I saw her scope flash them ordered the drop, but every time she moved as the crate was descending. In the end I managed to out-snipe her. At one point, a sandstorm rolled in so I went prone to wait it out - she only appeared on the rock directly behind me! Gave her a stun shot and she buggered off. You can completely diminish her health bar with bullets though and she'll just go stunned until the cut scene starts, I believe.

WRT the online / mother base thing..

I was under the impression that the Mother Base, ie. the one you go back to with Snake between missions, upgrade, meet Ocelot, D-Dog etc is associated with the main storyline.

You then build FOB's (Forward Operating Bases) that are separate bases associated with the online portion of the game, which is the reason for creating your own avatar at the start of the game - that's who you play as when building and defending your FOB.

I may be wrong though, I'll check what is detailed in the strategy guide once I get home.

I recently discovered that you can remove the enemy markers in the options menu, switching them and reflex mode off has made it feel like a proper MGS game to me. You can still use the bionic arm's sonic pulse thing but obviously have to be careful about the noise it makes.

Now I can use D-dog without feeling like I'm cheating and the whole game feels much more immersive, would highly recommend these settings to MGS vets or anyone going through the game a second time.

crikey, i'm nowhere near that level yet, still working my way to rescuing miller FFS...

mind you only had a few hours on it...the spotting mechanism is far more brutal and sensitive than similar games...its like far cry wound up to like 11 sensitivity...

the creeping wall hugging is not quite smooth yet either but I'll get there...i got into the compound with the antenna in M1 and then bumped into the effin table....queue a bunch of marginally angry russians to come and kill me...

it has depth...GOY?

I'm at exactly the same point, really enjoyed that mission - can't believe I've been playing so long and completed so little percentage-wise. Wasn't sure that I would enjoy this game as I didn't really enjoy previous MGS's, but this one is excellent so far. Also noticed last night that although I've completed the missions up to this point, I only actually did the basics. There are lots of objectives in each mission that I didn't achieve, so once I've upgraded my stuff more, I'll go back and repeat them.
