Anyone done Mission 11 with the sniper yet?

I was struggling with beating Quiet as I wanted to tranq her, until I saw online that you can just drop a couple of supply crates on her head to knock her out!

So simple, yet so utterly brilliant. I love this game.
I knew this prior to starting the mission but couldn't get it to work!

I stayed at the starting point the whole time, luring waiting until I saw her scope flash them ordered the drop, but every time she moved as the crate was descending. In the end I managed to out-snipe her. At one point, a sandstorm rolled in so I went prone to wait it out - she only appeared on the rock directly behind me! Gave her a stun shot and she buggered off. You can completely diminish her health bar with bullets though and she'll just go stunned until the cut scene starts, I believe.

WRT the online / mother base thing..

I was under the impression that the Mother Base, ie. the one you go back to with Snake between missions, upgrade, meet Ocelot, D-Dog etc is associated with the main storyline.

You then build FOB's (Forward Operating Bases) that are separate bases associated with the online portion of the game, which is the reason for creating your own avatar at the start of the game - that's who you play as when building and defending your FOB.

I may be wrong though, I'll check what is detailed in the strategy guide once I get home.
Yeah that's right regarding Quiet, You can use a sniper rifle, yourself, but obviously it doesn't kill her. My technique was just finding out where she was, letting her try shooting me before hiding behind a wall, then taking the opportunity to shoot her as she reloads. Then I used my binoculars to follow her as she ran (if I could keep up)

I have Mission 15 waiting for me when I get home. I think I have about 20% complete though, I've just been doing Side-Ops, free roaming, base building, scavenging etc..

'Where Do Bees Sleep' was a fantastic mission. I've been impressed by all of them so far to be honest, they're so engrossing and I think the way the game is structured so you hop on the heli, gear up, drop in, even the credits before and after each mission, it does make it feel 'episodic' which is what Kojima was going for, it's like watching a 60 minute episode of a really gripping TV series.

I got the Legendary Gunsmith last night - definitely worth pursuing as soon as you can!

ETA - check the information / updates that pop up when you load up the game, there's a message regarding a bug if you use Quiet in two specific missions IIRC (27 and 42 spring to mind, but don't quote me on that).

I don't know, not at the stage yet. But from what I've read the side-ops unlock after 13 or 14 and there are 3 gunsmiths.

That's right. Should unlock after Mission 13 is done, but you might need to do a few Africa Side Ops to trigger the Gunsmith.

As smithy says; after mission 13.

If it doesn't appear, you need to make sure you have done the 'stun arm' side op. The side ops are linked to a location and there are 10-30 side ops per location, which are played out in order.

The base you need to raid to get the first legendary gunsmith is also the same location as the 'stun arm' mission, so do that first and it should appear. You may have to do a few other side ops afterwards before it appears.

So I'm now at mission 15, although I haven't started it yet. Definitely loving this game; it is a complete time-sucker.

I'm reading lots of mixed reviews on it, mainly between the casual gamers and the hardcore MGS fans. MSG4 received quite a bit of criticism for the amount and length of the ingame cutscenes; so it seems that Kojima listened and cut it right down, replacing them with the optional cassette tapes. This has frustrated a lot of the MGS fans, as the games cinematic feel has suffered as a result.

The main comment being used on Reddit is 'Best MGS game ever, worst MGS story ever'. I think that sums it up nicely.

While I wasn't a massive fan of the huge cutscenes in the last MGS; at least I had a fair idea of the story. Whilst I could listen to all the cassettes in the new one, I'm finding I can't be bothered and there isn't really a good time to go through them.

I've actually been checking Youtube for a video that has all the cassettes playing in order so I can catch up when sat in the office. Whenever I start playing the game, I just want to play. Not sit there listening to 2+ hours of recordings. My own fault I suppose...

The gameplay really is exceptional in this; the AI is pretty intelligent and the adaptive nature makes the game constantly shift your play style. I'm a little disappointed in the lack of characters/enemies/animals located between the bases/guard posts though. The map feels a little empty...

I'm enjoying the whole base development aspect and find it really adds to the depth of the game. The further I get into it, the more stuff I'm discovering.

I have noticed I tend to use the same tactics going through the game, it's interesting to read how other people approach the same missions, but in a different way. It certainly opens up the games replay value.

GOTY for me so far; although, as mentioned earlier, Fallout 4 is out soon and that looks very good.

Definitely great replay value. I noticed it last night, I was doing a Side Op at a previously visited location (supply base in Afghanistan) and went about the extraction totally different to the first time I visited there - didn't even seem like the same location.

Another thing people are really not happy about is the ending, which I agree with. I can't say anything without giving the game away but it is poor. Such a cop out.

Great game otherwise though.

I like the credits at the beginning of a main mission too. If it just mentions the Soviets then I know ill be in for a easy, come frustrating sneak mission. If however the credits mention Skull Face ETC then chances are im still in for a easy come frustrating sneak mission but with the added suspense of a boss battle. Luckily I have done the 3 boss missions I have come across so far first time pretty easily. Must be luck as surely they should of been harder.

I have just unlocked Africa but spent most of yesterday evening doing most the side missions. Im still yet to come across D Dog thou?

As far the sniper mission goes I wish I would of revealed the spoiler above as I shot her twice and legged it past. Wish I would of took her out now.

I unlocked D Dog in afghan, I'm also not very far through - it was during a side mission and was the first animal I fultoned. He starts as a puppy.

I saw on a Let's Play on YouTube, someone didn't get the puppy until Africa!

Glad I got him early tbh, his spotting ability is invaluable early in the game.

Apparently you can miss D-Dog.

If you don't capture him when he appears then he is gone for good. Hopefully he just hasn't appeared yet as he is really handy for stealth missions.

He is at the start of the russian interpreter mission as soon as you land.

Did Mission 15 last night, Quiet and I now have ZZZ sniper rifles, just need to unlock the suppressor for hers, but doing double-shots on pairs of patrolling guards is cool.

Looking over my missions, I've averaged a B-rank so far. I think I could go back and get an S-rank for some of the early missions now to be fair.

My mother base has 2 platforms of each type, with the Command Platform having 3. I'm having to juggle my staff around now though - all my rosters are full and I had ~70 in my Waiting Room, all D-E rank, so I fired them all. Now I'm only fultoning guards with at least 1 A-rank or B's and a specialty, trying to level up the teams a bit.

Should be about Mission 13/14 or thereabouts.

I think it's a mission or two before then; I was still in Afghan when he became available.

Make sure you keep going back to MB between missions and when D-Puppy disappears from MB, he should reappear a few missions later.

Got this last night and loving it so far. It's got a Hitman vibe to it, which is a good thing.

One question, I put my DLC code into the PS Store for my Day One content and the slip in the box said to go to the main menu and select "additional content" to get it in-game, but that isn't an option in my main menu. Where do I go to get my swag?
