I would expect it to look better than that.

I hate to say it but since rFactor 1, no driving game has actually been released that was as good as that was when it was released. The genre has stood still on the PC really.

Until AC and pCARS reach a 'finished' point so they can be judged, it'll be unfair to judge too harshly... if they actually reach that point that is. Maybe that is the plan... never finish them properly so you always have an excuse for why things feel wrong or look bad.

I've not played pCARS yet, but so far I'm not really very impressed with AC either. Fundamentals are being completely ignored it seems, which isn't the best starting point.

Inclined to agree with you. I still go back to rFactor1 for that reason.

rFactor 2 and AC have a lot of potential, but ultimately what I want is good online racing - both failed so far to convince me on this front, it just seems to much of an effort to find and join a good race. Hopefully final release versions will put this right.

iRacing, despite not being the best looking sim and the obvious cost issue, is the one that draws me in most. I like the organised approach to multiplayer and generally clean and fair racing you get. To me, that has been the biggest evolution to sim racing since GPL.

I've not played it but I've watched entire races on YouTube and it does indeed look really nice to play on-line.

The graphics are not jaw dropping, but they are consistent and amply good enough for the required task.

In my view good visuals are just a matter of time and working on the assets etc to get things nice. But the physics and fine tuning cars to 'feel' really good, and tune the physics to do what you need it to do for the cars at hand, is what really takes the time.

For me AC just keep adding more content but the fundamental feel of each car hasn't changed since day one, and mostly they all just 'feel' the same... just different visuals and noises but no real character differences imo.

Iracing is really really fun but you need to spend a fair bit to get a good setup for it. I was using the xbox wheel for it on the pc and it just didnt work much especially in cars which needed you to have a clutch pedal - the gear changes on the xbox wheel took a good second or more on 'auto clutch' which makes a massive difference.

Its bloody hard online but is very clean from what I experienced. Compared to most games where people use your car as a section armco and smash people off all the time it was so nice. Penalties for cheating were sometimes harsh but they applied to everyone so fair I suppose.

I wish it was cheaper mind, I dont subscribe any more as I was more of a once a fortnight kind of guy and 'per game' it cost a fortune!

Yeah it's the cost that puts me off.

I like to race online but find the time to do so pretty narrow really.

I tend to just plan via IP sharing on older games with people I know well. There are still the occasional bumps but it's all just fun in the end any how biggrin

I'm tempted to fire up GT5 again and have a drive around actually... just those pesky menus. It can take 5 minutes just to get into an actual car/track you want to drive hehe.

I haven't played PCars for ages so can't really give a fair assessment although I didn't really think much of the physics last time I did play it, I don't like the physics in iracing either tbh which is a bit of a bummer as I really like the online structure.

Of all the racing games I've played Assetto Corsa is the one that has impressed me the most, I instantly felt comfortable and the behaviour of the car felt.. well just like driving a car really! I just wish they would implement some kind of proper online structure similar to iracing.

On the subject of graphics, I thought this video looked and sounded fantastic so I'm a bit surprised by some of the comments, have things changed since this?

Trailer looks great, I'm looking forward to this, as I have a PS4 but no racing games to play on it so far.

Contrary to other opinions, I really liked NFS: Grid on PS3, I thought it played really well and particularly liked that Brands Hatch was in the game, as I have been on track days at Brands and it's nice to be able to both drive on a real track and then drive the same track in a game.

Any chance Knockhill will be in the game too?

Does anyone know (perhaps Andy, the O/P) on the status on steering wheel support in the game?

I have read on other forums that the Logitech Driving Force GT (official PS3 wheel) is not supported on PS4, contrary to original information from Sony that PS3 peripherals will work on PS4.

I have read some forum threads and other bits and pieces on the Internet, and there seems to be some confusion as to whether Logitech wheels will work; Logitech says the drivers are the same as for PS3, and so should work fine with PS4, whereas Sony say Logitech have to make the wheel compatible? Other info states that it is up to the software authors to include wheel support.

Surely someone must know what the actual situation is?

Cheers,
Steve

I think rFactor 1 has Knockhill, but am not at my PC to check. Its a very old game so doesn't look great but has a ton of extra cars and tracks. Might even be inrFactor 2
