I see Ubisoft have continued with their "neither fish nor fowl" confused mismash of checkpoints, auto-saves and manual saves that aren't really saves.

Also, the internet is awash with reports of PC players being unable to do a manual save and the option simply not being on the pause screen (there should be three buttons marked "Save & Quit", "Save" and "Quit to Desktop" only the "Save" is missing for many people including me).

Ubisoft's response in each case is "create a support ticket" (aka "sod off")

Having several times had to go back and have to replay 30-odd mins of gameplay, I'm getting absolutely sick and fed up of this.

Also, I've had the game crash twice today, and both times undone a load of gameplay including crafting and weapon acquisition.

Shall I tell you the definition of insanity? Buying another game from Ubisoft and thinking "This time it will be different. This time it won't be a pile of buggy st with a poorly thought-out UI unsuited to the PC"

Update:
It's crashed twice more since. The worst lost me pretty much an entire mission, and it's one with lots of Hunters. To say that I am currently rather annoyed would be an understatement.

I have managed to fix the manual save issue though. It seems you need to make the savegame folder read-write and set security to "Full Control" for Owner and Users. Because the installer seems incapable of doing that itself. FFS. rolleyes

What a piece of under-tested st. It's "Fallout: New Vegas" all over again. Only with Ubisoft rather than Bethesda. Obviously.

I've been bought this for Christmas and am downloading now.

All 21GB of it, at 400KB/s.

One thing that is annoying me as I play is the number of spelling mistakes. "Breath" instead of "Breathe", "Discretely" in place of "Discreetly" and so on.

The game also completely lacks the sense of humour of the Grand Theft Auto series.

I'll play it all the way through but I doubt I'll come back to it like I do with GTA or the Fallout games.

As with Far Cry 3, the game saving mechanism is really annoying me. This is not a game you can dip into - once you start a mission you have to see it through to completion or else lose it.

I just did the first Propaganda mission and had everything destroyed apart from the radio tower. I lobbed a grenade onto the base of it and the bd thing toppled over and fell on my head, killing me. Gahhh!
Now I have to do it all over again.

Also, the Buzzer. It is not a helicopter. In fact it's physically impossible for it to fly like it does in the game. What it's actually is an autogiro (of the style flown by the aviator chap in Mad Max 2), but with the pusher propeller turned round 90 degrees. If they'd actually made it an autogiro it could have actually been more challenging, as autogiros can't hover and need a short airstrip, road or field to land on.
Of course, in the magical world of video games it's a full-blown helicopter with full cyclic and collective controls. Despite not actually having a collective lever.

Urm, just forget about the finer details and enjoy what is an epic game.

I'm trying. The game doesn't make it easy to though. I just replayed that aforementioned Propaganda mission and as I went to destroy the last bit of equipment to complete the mission, the game crashed. FFS.

So a very simple question from some who has NEVER played a Far Cry game, is it worth a look, I'm on PS4 and usually play GTA or Destiny

its definitely worth it. much better than far cry 3 if a little derivative.

what annoys me most about FC4 is they've put tons of effort into the scenery and look/feel of the game but none at all into the story or variety of missions. the drugged missions in particular are tedious and i hoped we'd seen the back of them with FC3. it's also not open ended enough, having to do missions for people i want to gut through with a knife is most annoying! it's ok i'll just stand here chatting to these guys who keep sticking syringes in me rather than throwing them off the nearest cliff.

i'd hoped they'd have taken a leaf from GTA's book with missions involving preparation for a bigger hit/heist further along. instead its just sneak/fight your way in somewhere and fight your way back out.

Indeed. And, just like with FC3, if (when) you have to restart a mission you have to watch the entire cutscene again in full because, in their infinite wisdom, Ubisoft won't let you skip it.

The other annoyance, again just like FC3, is the music is either on or off; you can't turn it down. You get a master volume and music on/off. That's it.

Considering that FC3 was released in 2012 and people have been giving feedback (ie. complaining) about these things ever since, you'd have thought Ubisoft might have taken the opportunity to address some of the criticisms.

That's me!

Buy a hard copy of it, play it for a couple of weeks, then sell it.

It's like a mini GTA5 game, I can only describe it as same st different smell.

I got a week worth of gaming out of it, then I moved on, so buy it only if it's cheap enough.

Ok so after playing this for a few hours now it's a slightly upgraded version of far cry 3. Which isn't a bad thing. The world is vast and full, everything has point. Every animal every NPC. It's great. Story is lacking like FC3 but again it's not really important. If you loved FC3 you'll love this. Love how you can be creeping up on a camp and suddenly be attacked by an eagle or a tiger. Or just come across a tiger and bear fighting.

i do wonder how it plays/looks on xbox1. i have it on 360 and whilst it has no glitches/crashes [yet!] i was very torn whether to upgrade the machine to take advantage of first person gta V and forza 5.

my mate bought a copy at the same time i did [under the counter, we're in dubai where it's banned]. he finds it amusing that i have so much vitriol for some of the characters.

that woman who runs the arena, man i hated having to do missions for her, bh threw me into a pit with nothing but a knife, she got a bullet in her head before she's said her first word!

I can see why you did that, but I found it more satisfying to wait....

Has anyone else spent 30 Uplay points to acquire the Robocop gun? I did so almost immediately and it has proved to be a very effective sidearm, especially once the suppressor and extended mags are fitted.

What I'd really like is a suppressed Assault Rifle, which was my close / medium range weapon of choice for FC3. None are available to me yet though, sadly.

I was using the suppressed AK, highly effective, but ive just changed to shredder (might swap back though) both are signature weapons.

The bow is probably the best weapon for the early game, and don't forget your throwing knives they have a pretty decent amount of range.

My side arms are the cross bow and grenade launcher.

As ive unlocked the northern map and have moved to fighting the harder troops of the north I find myself using takedown more often.

I normally carry the signature sidearm shotgun, the Shredder SMG, Z93 sniper rifle with silencer and the RPG-7.

Sidearm shotgun is very powerful at short range. Silenced sniper rifle is great for picking off guards one by one, RPG-7 for helicopters, Heavy Gunners and vehicles. There is another supposedly better missile launcher but in reality it's very slow to acquire a target lock and no use for the Heavy Gunners.

I've not unlocked the North yet. I really ought to but that means progressing the main storyline and I actually find it a little tedious. It's currently at visiting the Monastery. I should probably just get on with it as I've got all the Bell Towers and most of the Outposts cleared on the South side.

I use the z93 as well, heavy gunners I either takedown or Molotov. Grenade launcher is ok for helo's but it is hard to hit them, the advantage though I think is that its a side arm and can be used while driving.
