Surely anyone looking for simulation racing should play Forza 5 instead? Horizon is meant as a companion piece, a less serious game using the same basic model, not as a replacement.

I firmly believe this game wouldn't be as good if it was a full on sim. It's meant to be fun... not super realistic.

Is it worth buying an XB1 for this because the PS4 is not so good for racing games at the moment?

Is a wheel available for it also?

Thing is you can have both.

It's just a mode, and if the engine is the same just with different variables tweaked then it's a no-brainer to add as a value added feature.

TDU1 had this option. Finish the game and get the simulation mode... it has much harder, kinda less enjoyable in some regards but an entirely new dimension to try complete the game again with it turned on.

I genuinely think though that these games are purposely limited so they can sell you both DLC and Horizon 3 down the line again and again, same content again and again.

I think 90% of the car content here is just copy/paste from older Forza and Horizon games.

Such a shame really because this engine would be an amazing one to just build upon and add to for many years... but you know it'll never happen.

Oh for an Open Source Open driving game on the PC biggrin

Good on you! I wish i did mine in a slower class of car than the McLaren P1, it took me about 15 or 16 minutes this morning, on Pro dravatar difficulty (all assists apart from ABS off). One of the hardest races I've done in a game, the cars are just too fast to enjoy the roads really. I'd do it again in a slower car class if I could.

Re is it worth buying an Xbox one for the racing games... I'd say yes, I got mine in May mainly for Forza 5, and don't regret it at all. Both games are up there with best racing games on any console, and they added quite a few tracks to Forza 5 since launch, it now has a decent number of tracks. The graphics on both Forza games, particularly lighting and weather effects on FH2 are just spectacular, as evidenced by the picture topic for FH2.

I definitely had time to appreciate the scenerysmile
Was very hard to keep momentum up the hills, and down hills it topped out at about 85! Was very close too,all cars finished within 10 seconds of the leader

Which one? There's about 12 of them. There's 168 championships all together.

There's only 2 finales, after that it's just a grind through championship after championship.

Got it today along with the XBOX One. Was going to only buy the 360 version but suffered a moment of weakness and went for the full monty.

And my verdict thus far (4 or 5 championships in) is... I'm a bit disappointed, but not really. I've been looking for a TDU replacement for years and had high hopes that this could fill that void. In many ways this is obviously the superior game but I'm really missing that sensation of freedom. Does it get any better? I feel like there's an awful lot less to explore and apart from just doing the races I'm not very interested in cruising around the place exploring every inch of tarmac (or mud).

I'm loving my maxed out Defender complete with roof rack and snorkel though. Haven't found the perfect tuning setup for it yet but it goes like stink everywhere regardless!

Two things that have me in this game:

"Cross Country" - why the fk would I want to take my fking Dodge Viper (for example) off road racing through a field?

"Bucket List #13 Bowler" - What an absolute pig of a level, not hard, not entertaining just very, very annoying trying to get it right/finding the best route.

Yes! I find it is hard, what is the best route anyway? I can't get anywhere near the finish.

I must have tried it about 40 times.

I follow the sat nav line out of the first set of trees, steer right before the first of 3 upcoming trees, go tight to the group of trees on your right hand side, in front you should see a slight gap in the next batch of trees (2 small gaps in fact), a house should come in to your view, make sure you hit the gaps slightly to the left of that and then keep your race line as straight as possible through the fields, again monitoring the headland 2-300m in advance, you should be making minor adjustments rather than full blown turns.

Try to reduce the angle as much as you can to hit the road just before the boarded off finishing drive.

Things I learned, keeping it smooth and steady at 90%, even using the brakes if needed is better than totally gunning it and overcooking corners, clipping trees/hay bales etc.

You can shave more time off by turning right soon after setting off and going down through the trees, I found this hit or miss when gunning it though so stuck to the Sat Nav route. Once you get used to the route in the first 1/3 its reasonably straight forward.

Check under things, like under the runway, under the castle, things like that.

My last section was at the runway – an area that I went to almost every time I played! But you rarely use the actual 'roads' there so it's easy to miss a slice.

This may be a stupid question, but how do you see which roads are discovered or not?

Also, I agree with the cross country rant. Did not enjoy bouncing and rattling my RWD 1M Coupe with a big V12 up front through fields and trees. Must've taken me atleast 100 restarts until I nailed it, and then only through luck. Completely idiotic, and it almost spoils the entire experience. I do like it in cars that can actually go offroad, such as my RAM or Lancer 6, but in pretty much anything else it's just painful and utterly boring.

Roads not yet discovered are coloured dark on the map, become bright as you drive along them.
good shout about trying under things. I think I found the underground bits of the airport and another place or two but worth checking.
