It's a bit difficult to decipher where you have been exactly but maybe if you take a look at this map it may help?

I wouldn't really say it's much of a spoiler but to beware. It's in a flow chart format but it doesn't suggest any order in which you should do things.

Thanks Jon, Baryonyx has it nailed. I will just get on with fighting some of the bosses and some of the hunters. Especially Vicar Emelia for the password :-)

Cheers for all the help.

Just finished this now. Crushed Ebrietas, beat the second last boss and started NG+ with a view to chasing down that one, last boss.

Easily the best game I've ever played. It makes both Dark Souls games look like the clumsy efforts of a child. Bloodborne is an utter masterpiece.

Pthumerian Descendant in depth 5 Ithyll is still kicking my ass, this is 4 days on this boss now I think.

I got him down to such a slither of health, a couple of more hits and he would be dead. The camera screwed me. I clicked to lock on when he was right in front of me, instead it didn't lock on and spun 180 degrees. He killed me.

Also lost 1.1 million echoes on him.

What does NG+1 mean? Is that like playing it all again after you have completed it already?

I defeated the vicar and got the password. I then went that way and seemed to clear it all killing the dude with the snakes on his head.

What I didn't do was take on the tall guy in the swamp/under ground cave lake that was a secret path. I had lots of souls and was just looking to open some doors and return to the lamp as it was way past bed time ;-).

This game is a master piece. So long since I have wanted to play a game more and more. It should be released on all consoles so others get the chance to play it through.

Yep, you keep your level, your equipment, consumables but start all over from the start. The enemies are all tougher.

In Dark Souls 2 there were some enemies that were exclusive to NG+

Hi - Okay that makes sense thanks. Increased play life.

I've now been all over the Forbidden Woods. Met the small snakes on the ground and killed them easy, learned how to mostly be successful killing the guys with snakes on their heads and the horrible bigger spitting bunch of snakes too. Killed the two big pigs and cleared out all the other areas including the towns with the oil pools and all other bad guys I have found including the cannon wielder and so on.

I also found those weird guys that look like aliens (little glowing guys with mushroom heads?!)

Then I found my way down to a boss area with three bad guys "Shadow of Yharnam". I danced around a LOT trying to work out how to dodge all three of their attacks and took a third off the energy of one before dying and losing my 50k blood echoes...

Rather than fighting my way back down there I went to the cave that takes u to the lake with the unarmed giant guys in the poisoned lake. Killed two but didn't notice the worms attacking me and died before I had a chance to heal as I was part way through anti-doting myself...

Still enjoying the game very much and thinking through how to beat this Shadow of Yharnam.

I am wondering why everyone talked about beating ROM but so far I have not found ROM. Am I still not far enough through the game or have I missed an area?

One last thing, I have been playing online but had no invaders to date. I haven't rung a bell myself yet and am 47 insight (level 53) , but was expecting someone to come and try and ruin my day.

Cheers,

Rom is yet to come and it sounds like you haven't missed anything out. I would say around about now is a good time to start ringing that beckoning bell and summoning co-op players to come and help you out. The Shadow of Yarnam characters are tough and I had to summon another player for the first time to help me out when I reached this stage for the first time.

I found Shadows of Yarnham to be one of the easiest bosses.

Take out the guy that cast spells first. Then the other two are easy. When you're down to one, and it starts casting those snakes, just get in his face and mash attacks. He staggers and you can interrupt everything. If you're fast enough, he doesn't get a single attack off.

Co-op Summoning: How does that work? So I ring the bell. Who gets the option to join my game? If anyone, then why have I not received the option to join someone else's game co-op?

Regarding ROM etc. Great I will get there in good time.

Shadow Trio: I will give them a good few goes on my own, I don't feel the need to ask for help unless I have really tried and failed quite a few times. Half the fun is eventually managing to kill someone that has beaten you to a pulp several times. I will wander around the Forrest for a while and build up some extra levels via BloodEchoes before giving him another go.

I keep collecting these cool badges that appear somewhere in my characters inventory in a separate section. All different names. They seem to come with some sort of skill uplift but when I click on them the USE is greyed out and the only option is discard....

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Steven RW

You use the Beckoning Bell to summon someone to your game. Ringing it uses one insight. It will carry on looking (which you can see by a pulsing circle appearing around you periodically) but there's no guarantee you'll find anyone - you're limited by (a) your level and (b) who is volunteering to be summoned in that area. It's a bit hit and miss in my experience, and very hard to get summons in some areas.

You can volunteer to be summoned by ringing your Small Resonant Bell. You appear in the other person's game and stay until killed or the area boss is defeated.

If you haven't already got them, you purchase the bells with insight points from the Insight Bath Messengers (just outside the door to the hut in the Hunters Dream), which is in turn accessible once you have 10 insight showing in the counter below blood echoes.

Badges are dropped when you kill certain enemies/bosses. They unlock weapons to be bought from the bath messengers.

HTH.

Awesome - very helpful. I forgot about the other bath outside the left door to the house in Dream. I will go now and get on it!

Thanks regarding the Badges. I have tonnes but have stuck to my Threaded Cane which is pretty kick ass now. :-)

Fast reply as on the hoof but many thanks!

Be aware that while you are ringing your beckoning bell looking for someone to join your world, you can be invaded.

Update: I’ve now managed to kill the undead giant in the first level of dungeon and then made it down to level 3, where it looks like I have completed that dungeon now as I couldn’t find anywhere to go but back to the Hunters Dream. I returned to this dungeon much later than my first attempt where I was literally destroyed by undead giant so gave up. I’m a much more experienced player now and sorted the giant out relatively easily. I have made it to ROM but not figured out how to beat him/IT yet after a couple of goes. I’m working on it. I have taken him down to half energy so far. I went back through the forbidden woods and down into the cave that has the three unarmed giants and up to Iosefka’s clynic and taken my invite to Cainhurst. Made it through Cainhurst but literally been DESTROYED by the end guy (name eludes me.. so today I’ll call him..) Captain Cainhurst. Working my way through how to deal with him.

So its ROM and captain Cainhurst for me. I also need to work out the Nightmare Frontier place (was invaded for my first time at the weekend, lost all three combats but enjoyed it all the same…) The weird aliens with the big heads and all the mouths have caused me issues as I walk through the poisoned river. Plenty to do and still loving it.

Invited one person to help but invited them in the level just before ROM so as I walked through the mist to ROM they couldn’t join me so I had to expel them. Learned for next time!! 

Oh yeah, met the guy at the top of the building in the Forbidden woods (the building with the elevators). I spoke to him and offered him sanctuary at the cathedral or wherever it is but then decided to kill him at which point all hell broke loose as he was a massive beast… managed to make my way back into the building corridor and fought him off from safety. If I had been stuck in the open that would have been PROPER bad news .

Cheers

The guy at Cainhurst is Martyr Logarius, I hear a lot of people saying this was a tough boss. I think I got lucky as I murdered him first try without much difficulty. I've found earlier bosses to be far more difficult than him.

What you did regarding summoning was correct, you can't summon once you pass the fog gate. NOrmally as soon as you go through the fog gate your co-op partner can then pass. I think ROM is slightly different though! I don't think your partner can pass through the fog gate until you initiate the boss fight by jumping off the ledge.

I've been stuck at that fog gate as a co-operator too.

That NPC you tried to send to the chapel. He's a bad man, spoilers ahead **************************** he will kill all the other NPCs that are present, he's a cannibal *******************

He's quite a tough fight isn't he! YOu fight him again in the chalice dungeon in his beast form, he's called the abhorrent beast. It's a difficult fight! It's super aggressive and hits real hard, you can't really play passive against it. I used 20 vials to down it in the chalice dungeon.

I've just started playing so I thought I'd come and join the thread.

I was struggling with the first boss and had to look it up. Feel a bit like I cheated as I never look stuff up.

  • ********Spoiler below

I had it half right to wait and get behind him, but I was running instead of rolling through/past him. Once I changed tactic I just had to keep trying and eventually done it. It sounds daft, but it seemed to make more sense to run around his side rather than roll past his legs. As I would hug the wall and draw him over to the side. I should have tried it. But I'll remember that for the next boss I need to keep trying different things.

Hi - welcome. :-)

Most of the time I have worked out the solutions myself but I was really suffering with the boss in the Nightmare Frontier (Amygdala). I was hacking away getting hits in but making nearly no impact on it's health so I took some advice. Slightly less satisfying and a reminder to just soldier on next time :-).

Once the game opens up a bit (bit ahead of where you are) if you are not making good progress with a boss you can go another way and get more experience and come back.

I hadn't worked out how to level up on this game without the help of the guys on here, so wouldn't have got very far.

For me, it's about "just enough" help to keep you going rather than cheating. Keeps it satisfying.

Oh yeah, I had ROM down to a slither of health and backed off to make sure and not get killed going for that last over eager attack. I never managed to get close again and died... so i'll try again tonight!

:-)
Cheers
