I'm going to give it another go tonight but I am slightly disappointed, I accept it's a Beta though so will wait to see what people think of the full game but for the minute I have cancelled my pre-order.
Wow, can you give us your thoughts on why? Ok it doesn't seem to be as deep as I was expecting but I still had a lot of fun with it.I have however just read that it won't have classes etc which is a bit surprising and a little disappointing. It may not have the depth to keep me playing for months and months but I can certainly see it keeping me entertained for a little while at least.

One thing I noticed was a complete lack of chat on PC, even though I'm sure it's there because I was able to type messages. Part of the fun on the PC is the banter over text chat and without it I might as well have been playing against bots. The maps really do feel small as well, especially when you get in one of the Tie Fighters or whatever.

Its just COD on a battlefield map
Single player beta = cod zombies
The thing is CoD was brilliant right up until MW, in fact I think that game still holds the record for me as longest game I ever played, it didn't leave my CD tray for about 18 months. CoD gameplay per se isn't bad, it's what they did with it after MW that spoiled it for me. OK it might not be as deep as BF but it can be huge fun in a different way. Single player beta = cod zombies
I'm hoping the finished game will have more depth, oh and I want a laser sniper rifle goddamit, not just the one shot special power affair currently in the game.
I played it last night because it's free, so why not. Graphics, sound and overall atmosphere are incredible. It was is reasonably fun for 10 rounds on the small map.
The large one is just one big mess.
I've never played Battlefield 4 but this game is what I think a Starwars themed DLC Battlefield 4 would be like. Won't buy - I think I'm getting too old for this player versus player stuff.

The Hoth battle is pretty cool. Rebels keep losing because everyone seems to treat it as TDM. It's massively weighted to Imperials if the Rebels don't know what they are doing. Keep seeing people running passed unactivated link stations, pew pewing at the AT ATs instead.
Orbital barrage on the vulnerable AT ATs FTW.

Yep noticed this too, if no one bothers activating\deactivating the link stations it's a default win for the Empire which is a bit crap TBH. Also a lot of the games seem to be very one sided with one team steamrollering the other, I played for several hours and didn't play many games where the outcome was close so there do seem to be some map\balancing issues. Orbital barrage on the vulnerable AT ATs FTW.
Hopefully a lot of this will go away once all the CoD players bugger off and people start playing it properly.

Oh and can anyone tell me how to do an orbital strike on the PS4, I must have tried every button press. I can get the binoculars up but can I get it to actually fire at what I'm pointing at? Not a chance!
Press L2 to look through the viewfinder then R2 to fire. Don't call it in on yourself like I did"oh, that's how it works!"

The all medium preset doesn't look much worse to be honest and my spec isn't high end either: i5 2500K 8GB Ram HD7950.
Like I said, the gameplay is fine but will lack some longevity and complexity. The visuals and performance are astounding though.
Reading that, hopefully my machine should be fine.Like I said, the gameplay is fine but will lack some longevity and complexity. The visuals and performance are astounding though.
i5 4400K, AMD R7950 3GB, and 28GB RAM.
Might download it tonight after work just to see if it works on ultra at 60 FPS.
Though my monitor is 1080P not 4K
I got a couple of hours in last night on the PS4 and i thought it was great. I tried the Survival mode first and when the Storm Troopers walked into view i was really impressed by both the quality of the graphics and how lifelike the movement was.
I understand what people are saying about a potential lack of depth and it's a shame if there are no classes, but i'll withhold judgment on that given that most of it remains locked.
My main concern was that the shooting lacked a bit of satisfying precision, as i think Guvernator mentioned above. One of the things that really impressed me was the matchmaking. There seemed to be a game available to jump into pretty much all the time. I'd got used to Destiny with its massive wait times and load screens all over the place.
With Destiny now shelved and my interest in Rocket League dwindling, I'll definitely be buying this. Looking forward to a few more games over the weekend

Just downloaded - fired up - crash.
Bit of research, and downloaded AMD's new beta drivers (15.9.1) and it still crashes, right from the 2nd screen
HD6970 graphics card, i7 cpu, 8GB RAM... grrrr!
Update - in case anyone has the same. Start the game windowed at the point when you press the enter button. (Press "Alt+enter" to make it windowed). Then in game go to settings and choose "Windowed - borderless". Seems to work.Bit of research, and downloaded AMD's new beta drivers (15.9.1) and it still crashes, right from the 2nd screen

If I then (in game) change it to fullscreen it crashes again.

A gateway game for FPS noobs. Pretty and shallow is ok for a holiday shag but I wouldn't bring it home...
In fact I can't even be arsed to download the demo given what a wasted opportunity this was to do the SW IP some justice.
So you haven't played it then? In fact I can't even be arsed to download the demo given what a wasted opportunity this was to do the SW IP some justice.
It's not got the depth of BF which is surprising but it is still a lot of fun. It's sort of like a halfway house between BF and CoD. I do find it weird that they decided to go in this strange direction though when all people really wanted was a Star Wars re-skinned BF.
I've read some of the interviews for why they've done this and it doesn't really make sense to me, perhaps they are trying to pull in the CoD crowd but I think they risk alienating the traditional BF fan-base so not really sure what they hope to gain.
Still I've seen enough to make me get the final game, even if I only end up playing it for a few months, it will be worth it.

I think it's great fun, so much happening on the Hoth battle that it was never boring... I was even in a game last night where we got an AT-AT down fairly early. We still lost in the end, but people actually worked together on the rebel side.
Can't wait for battles in the forests of Endor.
It has some of the annoying characteristics of BF, like Biggles flyboys just immediately wrecking your st as soon as you get to pilot a ship, or X Wings travelling super slowly whilst they gun you down like people would do in planes in BF. Why they let them fly that slowly I don't know.
If there isnt the option to mod the weapons then it will be like the old BF pre playstation era
Managed to jump into a AT AT (the big thing) and the small AT walker, couldnt really figure out the controls and got rinsed in the walker pretty quickly. Couldnt quite figure out if the big thing was walking or not.
Flew a tie fighter and flew right into the ground
Managed to get a 19 kill streak going by flanking around loads of them (must have spawned in?) before dying. Ended up rage quitting when 2 small at walkers found our spawn point and just blasted you as you spawned in. It definately needs an anti tank class and not the pick up only weapon otherwise on hoth, the rebels will never win.
Not sure if ill buy it but will wait to see on the reviews.
