No Mans Sky - looks interesting

If that's true about what happens when you reach the centre of the galaxy then that's taking the absolute piss after how hello games have hyped it up.
I've had enough of it, mines being traded in.
When I saw the review I thought "that cannot be true". I'm wondering if it is a hoax I've had enough of it, mines being traded in.

I'm still enjoying it, I tend to ignore most game reviews.
Having spent many, many hours on MMO's it is nice to just wander about at your own pace. Taking GTA Online as an example I have absolutely no doubt that if this were fully online some 12 year old who had spent the entire of their summer holidays playing it would just endlessly kill me as I tried to go about my business.
That's my take. I don't want it to be an MMORPG. An optional online might be okay, but not for PvP - maybe co-operative and PvE. But then you end up with world syncing issues, or separate instances.Having spent many, many hours on MMO's it is nice to just wander about at your own pace. So only meeting by choice would likely happen, which is essentially like having it as classic network games where you had to know who you'd bump into = good.

Crashy issues aside, I had a rare hour at home alone yesterday so fired up the game in the dark with the full home cinema system on (can't usually do that with a 2 year old asleep).
The immersion the audio brings is like nothing else I've played. I'm not overly fussed about the aim of the game, but exploring hasn't got boring for me yet, particularly when fully immersed with the home cinema audio or headphones.
I absolutley agree with this, its a fun game and I enjoy playing it but the main thing for me is the audio with surround sound and a big sub behind my chair. In a dark room it just surrounds you and creates an experience that far outweighs the occasional crash or boring planetThe immersion the audio brings is like nothing else I've played. Exactly!
If you actually take your time and enjoy it, it's s completely different game. Sometimes I stop and look around the planet I'm on rather than just run to whatever mineral I'm after and mine it. See how different plants and annals move etc.
I don't get me wrong, I'm happy to spend an evening grinding, but ithe game is very (graphically) rewarding if you slow down a little.

But in an entire galaxy the chances of meeting anyone would be pretty slim.

I agree, I just wouldn't want it to be online only. But a difficult balance and product decision for an indie, less so for a full sw company. So only meeting by choice would likely happen, which is essentially like having it as classic network games where you had to know who you'd bump into = good.

That is like getting to the end of the Marathon de Sables against your will to be picked up by a helicopter two miles from the end and told to start again!

I've been playing this, it's a great idea and I think that with a little more refinment and development it could be very special indeed - but the game very quickly boils down to becoming a quest for more inventory slots and that is about it.
Playstation Plus members got given 'Rebel Galaxy' this month and although it's initially a little underwhelming in terms of graphics etc it manages to be a lot more interesting in terms of the trading side of things and also the ship to ship combat. You are piloting a capital ship so have control over various turrets and broadside cannons etc. But, there's no planetary exploration or visiting of space stations beyond simple menu-driven interfaces. But it occured to me that a combination of the best bits of both would be a winner!

Why the fk do you need an empty slot on your suit just to interact with lifeforms? Utterly annoying.
Also, I think the latest patch has altered the ship handling in space, my larger ship now feels a lot heavier and cumbersome when scrapping with pirates.
Still grinding and have see some amazing planets but made a ton of warp fuel and not been exploring quite as much as I was.

Saw a very similar game on Steam last night, except with an actual story, proper ship building, and very similar sorts of planets/graphics
But like a complete idiot I forgot to bookmark it
Reviews on Steam said it was like NMS but without the lies
Any ideas what it may be anyone?

Any of those? I'm guessing not Elite Dangerous which you should know about.
Blimey,that was quick!
Thank you for looking

I'm 'still' playing, only had 3 play sessions, first was about 7 hours, second 2 I've sat down around 22:00 and played it for a few hours.
I find the flora / fauna pretty uninspiring, although every now and then you do see something odd flying / swimming about. Plant wise, it's just the same few lumps of weirdness in different colours, some spiky, some not, but ho hum, I'm not in it to look at plants really. Find a dense bit, scan a bunch of things maybe, move on.
I traded up to a fancier ship that turned up at a space station, it looked better, had more slots, but the weapons seem a bit pants. Better shield though. Will work on crafting some improvements to the weapons. Blatted between a few planets, killed some pirates, then spent a lot of last night exploring one particular planet. Whilst sturggling with inventory space (who'd have guessed?!) it dawned on me I hadn't done any exosuit upgrades, so I set about searching for these.
Very mild 'tip' that could be an extremely mild spoiler of how a game mechanic works:
I found one of the beam thingies you can use a bypass chip on to search for locations with. Crafted about 6 bypass chips and repeatedly searched for 'Shelter' as these always (I think always?) have pods there where you can get an exosuit upgrade. Then spent my time blasting about in my ship stopping off for the upgrades and moving on. During my flights I repeatedly spot monoliths and plaques and buildings etc. so have been setting down, learning words or whatever and then continuing on to the next shelter.
Plenty of exosuit slots now so that's been helpful with alleviating some of the inventory shuffling.
It has also dawned on me that I have never seen an alternative multi-tool, so presumably haven't been visiting the right places. Will look in to this tonight I think.
I've learnt about 50 words now, the vast majority of them Gek, although interactions still have enough missing that you never quite know what's going on. A few have been useful to learn though, like isotope, help, that sort of thing that have at least made a few interactions quite obvious as to what to do.
Have visited all of the planets in the current system I think now, so depending on how I go with improving my multi-tool, I may just knock together some more fuel for the warp drive and move on. I'm yet to land on a 100% hospitable planet, they've all had at least periods of an excessively hot/cold/toxic/nuclear environment that stops exploring being totally care free.
Still enjoying it I suppose is the main thing. Never had more than about 600,000 credits and haven't needed them yet really, I may see how long this exosuit upgrading can go as it'd surely end up being able to hold LOADS of stuff if there's no upper limit beyond what you can afford / be bothered to grind out? Not sure if I want to know the answer to that, will find out for myself

Well I'm still enjoying this. I think it probably appeals to people with a bit of imagination. The setting, aesthetic and story are all excellent and very atmospheric. There's more to the game than meets the eye, if you're prepared to buy into it fully I think you'll get a lot more out of it in the long run.
Have to say though, the reaction from some people has been alarming. Personally I'm glad it's not multiplayer if that would have meant having to share the galaxy with some of the people who've been raging on forums, Youtube, Reddit etc. about it.
Perhaps the biggest problem was releasing it on PS4, that puts it firmly on the radar of COD kiddies and stereotypically speaking they're not the sort of people who'll get something like this.
