No Mans Sky - looks interesting

I agree. I wasn't expecting to come across anyone but if there was the slightest possibility of meeting someone else in the universe then that would keep me playing for longer (I think). The fact there is no possibility is a shame but still won't stop me purchasing the game.
They also look a bit stupid saying "chances are you'll never meet anybody anyway"Day 1: two people on the internet manage to "meet."
It may just be server loading issues or a feature that's not enabled yet, I'm not reading too much into it after the internet rage with the guy 'completing' it in 30hrs on what turned out to be a exploit on pre-patched version.
Is it really a big issue for anyone, though? The chance of meeting somebody is and always was absurdly small (which, remember, doesn't mean it can't happen), it's in no way a traditional multiplayer game and has never been sold as such.
For me it's 100% a single player game with data being drawn in (planet, animal names etc) from others that I may (or probably won't) ever see.

Chances are you'll never win the lottery even if you play it twice a week for your whole life, but somebody does most weeks. It's also worth noting that these guys didn't run into each other, it required several hours of travelling when there was a realisation they were in the same system, if I've read it correctly.Day 1: two people on the internet manage to "meet."

Another few hours last night ( up to about 5 now ). For me, so far so boring. Still pushing on in the hope that it'll get better.
Good things :
Good things :
- The brief excitement of landing on a new planet - there's just something about burning through the atmosphere and seeing a new world open up before you that sets the pulse racing ( until you land that is! ).
- The backing music suits the environment down to a tee.
- Inventory management is a constant pain in the neck - limited slots and no real easy means of tracking what you need for the various crafting recipes.
- Planets feel very samey - for example the creatures and plants on one planet appear very similar / identical to creatures and plants on another - even across different solar systems, no real feeling of diversity. The structure of planets has shown variety to a certain degree - but I get the feeling there's a limit to that aswell.
- Gameplay variety - right now there is none.. Land on planet collect resources, make some components, fuel some systems take off -> rinse and repeat. If the planets and flight in between them offered something to look forward to then it might not be so bad.
- Too big a sandbox - so when the gentle guiding hand that is the tutorial I guess ceases I genuinely think this is just too big an environment to flop around in and enjoy yourself. It's like being dumped in the middle of the pacific and told to swim in a certain direction ( without the excitement ).
- Trading is dull - too few resources, limited information on the value of resources in other trading locations to allow you to make an educated decision. Even when you do make credits there's not really too much to spend them on.
- On PS4 very noticeable graphics pop-up especially as you fly down to a planet, but even when walking around.
- Graphics in some cases appear like their from the PS2 generation, very flat textures.
- The alien species you keep bumping up against ( the Vey'reen? ) are uninteresting and rendered in such a cack handed manner that you just don't care about their story thread.
- Apart from the soundtrack - dull audio / soundeffects.

I think peoples issue with it is the devs have been asked numerous times about the multiplayer aspect and have always given vague answers. Then the hype train rolls along and people start talking about multiplayer then the devs do nothing to quash the rumours and speculation. This leads to people pre-ordering a game then being disappointed when the game they get isn't what they expected and devs post messages to twitter like:Is it really a big issue for anyone, though? The chance of meeting somebody is and always was absurdly small (which, remember, doesn't mean it can't happen), it's in no way a traditional multiplayer game and has never been sold as such.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It's not outright lying, but it's definitely lying by omission to get preorders and that's shady as fk.
People really do need to stop preordering games, until they do none of these stty industry practices will change!

And completely stupid that upgrades take up resource slots

Well, in that case I'm out. Mostly everyone who has played it so far has said it's boring with nothing much to distinguish between life forms and planets.Good things :

I was going to pick this up too but I just can't see the point now. It's all good and well having a huge universe to muck about in but when there isn't much to do there, then whats the point??
I would like to experience the game but for 40/50 quid then I think I'll give this a miss for the time being. Such a shame.

I think part often point is it is not proposed as a static release, but iterations will be added. If it takes off then maybe Sony will buy the studio and iterate the game more substantially.
They are planning to extend the amount you can carry again at some point, that seems to be the biggest issue for most.Vaud said:

Absolutely - they've built a universe and that's a brilliant technical achievement, now they just need to fill it with interesting things to see and do!Ikemi said:
I was contemplating the idea of buying a second hand PS4 just for this game ... and then sell it on once bored. Suffice to say, probably not worth it? I quite like exploration games, but all sounds a bit repetitious with regards to animals, planets and textures.
It's not PS4 exclusive - there's a version for PCs due out on Friday, I think. Don't know what specs are required, though. Now the game is out seems to be pretty close to what I thought it would be - a modern take on Elite with a dash of minecraft and a focus on 'survival' type gameplay (collect resources, craft them into items, upgrade the items) as is currently the vogue.
Looks interesting enough and it seems that they have plans to improve the game with additional features and game mechanics, moving onwards.
Watching groups of entitled nerds melt down over it on the internet is extremely fun though. After all the hype (mostly generated through said nerds speculating amongst themselves it has to be said) it is proving to be extremely divisive - who could have guessed? Reading some of the online arguments, all I can think of is 'get a life, you dicks'.

I think they need to get a better random number generator algorithm Day 1: two people on the internet manage to "meet."
They made a big mistake trying to brush off questions about player interaction by using the 'The Universe is so huge you'll never meet' line to dodge answering .. they should just have up front said "No multiplayer, only social online features". But they allowed speculation amongst a group of internet wasters grow so huge that there was always going to be huge disappointment when the game launched.

You should read the Star Citizen thread No Mans Sky looks interesting to me but seems as though it's not all there yet from everything I've read. I fear it might be like Elite Dangerous which wasn't really finished when it released so I'll play it intensively for a few weeks hoping for something great to happen then get bored and find something else.
