No Mans Sky - looks interesting

The promo videos are still the same ones based on pre-release code. They'd have a hard time pulling all copies of these from everywhere on the internet.
Besides, features can be added later - look at Elite: Dangerous, the game now is a much different thing to that when it was released. The difference there is that the developers self-published and were a bit more canny about what would be in the release version and what was to come later. Hello Games maybe were a bit ahead of themselves talking about some of the features that aren't in the game (yet) but they won't have the experience dealing with a company like Sony to that extent before.
Just playing devil's advocate.

Right from the start I was really puzzled at all the hype this game seemed to be getting, I even said so on page 4 of this thread. Before it came out, almost everywhere I turned this game was getting hyped to the gills, online game sites, magazines, forums etc. I watched videos and read lots on it to see if I was missing something that others had spotted but to me this was always going to end up as an interesting tech demo and nothing more.
An indie team of 15 people just couldn't hope to have the manpower to make something of this scope and do it proper justice. Also whenever I see the words "procedural generation", I give a slight shudder tbh. Yes it opens up scope for huge numbers of maps\worlds etc but without fail, every game I've played that has content generated this way has ended up feeling a bit generic and lifeless.
Still glad too see some people are enjoying it, I suspect with another years development and the introduction of VR it could almost come close to fulfilling some of it's promise. Lol at all the entitled internet nerd rage though, it really is very amusing.

I think I was similar, I couldn't really see what all the fuss was about.
Not sure why I bought it in the end, curiosity mostly. I've spent 10hrs so far but it's not really dragging me back to play more. I'll probably uninstall it before any DLC/upgrades come along.
It's an interesting idea but without a story/motivation all those worlds will go without being discovered.

This is the game that finally made me buy a PS4 however seeing all the feedback it very nearly didn't happen but I was set on a course of buying a new console so it was inevitable really. I got it as part of a bundle so I don't feel like I've been conned and I went in with eyes wide open that it would likely be awful.
I'm actually finding it quite compelling and am spending a couple of hours every evening playing it. I just enjoy bobbing around the surface of a planet finding ruins, bases, drop pods and trading points whilst keeping the exosuit and ship topped up. I don't know how long it will hold my interest for and Project Cars is due to arrive any day now but I've enjoyed the experience and if they can come up with some good DLC then it could be one to come back to.

Well I racked up a few more hours and I'm done.
It's just too samey, go to a planet, discover half a dozen near identical bases, learn a few words, mine some stuff, take photo's of some animals and plants. Repeat.
The planets are all very similar, some are 'nicer' than others but the danger boils down to keeping your suit and shield powered up.
The controls are a bit wobbly, it's a poorly optimised port and it has all sorts of bugs.
A brave attempt at something a bit different, looked very nice if you forget the pop-in of scenery and frame rate drops, the sound design was wonderful.

Bear with it I would say. Once you build yourself up a bit and get into the flow it's really enjoyable. I'm still on my first ship as I haven't felt the need to upgrade as of yet but it's just so freaking cool everyone I enter a new star system. I think that alone keeps me coming back for more!
I haven't played it myself for about a week now, I just don't feel the draw I did at first to get back on it...
I'm hoping hard work is being put into adding new features because as per Bulletts comment I don't think there is enough to warrant me coming back and playing on a regular basis.
I might in the meantime get back into Destiny, been a few months since I got on that...

More people playing it than playing "The Division".LandR said:
Doubt it. They got their money and claim all the DLC would be free. So they've got what they need.8bit said:

I think they had a lot of plans for stuff that was going to be in the game and if it had been up to them, the game would have been something like Steam Early Access with stuff being added in as it was ready. That's why they were cagey about what exactly was in the game in all the interviews long before it was released.Besides, features can be added later - look at Elite: Dangerous, the game now is a much different thing to that when it was released. However, once Sony got involved and started publicising it they were committed to a hard release window and had to put out what they had ready (as well as do a port to PS4 of course). That's why the day one patch was more than just bugfixes and actually added quite a few gameplay features.
I think that given time they will actually substantially add to the game. The fact that they have used procedural generation instead of total random generation implies to me that they are aiming for a sort of MMORPG type experience with everyone in a shared universe.

I came across my first world that someone else ad discovered! I then warped out to a star on our my journey that was out of the way
I don't know anything about how NMS works... But how is that possible? Unless it starts everyone in the same region? If 10,000 players have been playing constantly without a break since the game came out, discovering 5 new planets per hour each, there will have been 28,800,000 planets discovered so far.
Out of 18,000,000,000,000,000,000
The chance of any planet you find being a pre-discovered one is 0.00000000016%
You'd win the lottery about 100 times before finding a pre-discovered planet
