Is this any good now? It's in the Steam sale

In a sale it's probably worth it for what's there along with the added content, it was not worth release price with the content on release however but they've added alot.

It's an interesting 'experience' rather than a good game. If you buy into the visuals and the music and the concept of being a traveller, you'll probably have a good time. I think the best sub for this game on Reddit is called 'No Mans High' spin

If you're expecting Call of Duty in space... you'll hate it.

New Update

Quite a substantial update. Finally becoming what it should have been a year a go including... the first steps of Co Op gameplay!

Well done to the dev for sticking with it but they should have released it in this state a year ago. I think the horse has not only bolted but the stables been demolished and they are putting up new builds in the paddock.

I feel sorry for them, they got caught by the hype train and with Sony pushing for a release it was never going to meet expectations. I didn't think what was released was bad, it wasn't optomised and there were issues and bugs it just wasn't much fun, getting repetitive very quickly. All the unique worlds were actually pretty similar and the mechanisms the same on each new planet.

I'll be giving this another go from scratch now. I hope the new content gives it the new lease of life that it deserves.

This prompted me to actually buy the game, as it's currently on offer for PS4 at a tenner.

Definitely looks like I'll get that much worth of gameplay out of it and if they continue to improve it who knows?

I bought No Man's Sky when it was first released. All the updates have improved it no end however I still feel like there is something fundamentally wrong. It isn't a proper game imo.

I don't think it was ever intended to fit a the regular "game" genre. It was more a "explore and chill" but people always want objectives and a "win"?

I guess that's why they have added objectives in this update then smile

True. Just wish I had a machine that could run it!

I have to say, the improvements that have been made to this game are fantastic.

It's £9.99 on the PS4 store and well worth that!

Shame they rushed the release as this could have been game of the year if they had waited. It's an amazing game now!

Bought it in the sale for £15 on PC. It's not as bad as I expected but think it could be far better.

Flight controls are horrible with the mouse, I was hoping for a Freelancer type mouse-flying experience but it feels like an iPad port.

The resource collection is strangely therapeutic. I find it quite calming smile

Dialogue with the aliens is a bit dull. Seems to be the same five phrases over and over again.

You can see that it is getting there, but still needs a lot of work to complete it IMO

Resurrecting this thread as I've just bought it and should trun up today, multiplayer is due for release in July too:

https://www.cnet.com/news/no-mans-sky-gets-multipl...

It seems like its my kind of game, I'm quite happy to just noodle about finding and collecting things in other games like Fallout where raiders, bloatfly and mutants just seem like an inconveniance to me having a good explore. Only cost a tenner so if i dont get on with it it's no massive loss!

Anyone else still playing?

Not playing but still bitter about it, so much promise and in the end it was really dull.

Yeah that seems to be a bit of a theme whenever I read anything about it and it actually makes me even more intrigued. It looks to have had plenty of updates over the last couple of years and so i'm going into it with an open mind.

The thing that got me about it was it was just very grindy and I'm not sure I've seen anything that addresses that.

I think they've added different modes that you can play under so you can either go full survival grind or make it a bit more casual allowing to to explore more freely without having to worry too much about dying.

We'll see, like i said its only a tenner so even if i just get a few hours out of it its not all that bad..

It's a different game entirely now. And a good one at that! I bought it at release and gave up quickly. Started it again last year and really enjoyed it.
