No Mans Sky - looks interesting
Discussion
Watched the trailer for the Next update and it really looks good now. Have played it before but got a bit bored adder a while.
Now with full co op I can restart and play it through with my partner. Base building and Fleet control are both right up my street so I'm looking forward to it.

Had an hour last night in relative mode to see how much had changed in this new patch with the core mechanics...
Pretty much everything has been tweaked massively
Controls - least changes to physical buttons here but massive changes to how every thing feels. You can now play in 3rd person mode both in and out of ship. This is easy to switch back and fourth whenever you want. And even mix and match for preference (For example 3rd person in ship and stay 1st person on foot). This change makes low flying over the planets way more fun (and obviously you can now crash! so you really do need to stay awake if you decide to do some cannon runs). Scanning is also easier and although you can still rename and upload discoveries later on it actually gives you an instant credit payout when you first scan and identify animals and plant life.
Technology upgrades - Totally overhauled. In fact if you start up and existing game now you will find half your ships systems have been replaced with 'obsolete technology' as most of the tech upgrades are all new and more streamlined. So bear in mind the first thing you will need to do if using an older save is go in and strip out the 'dead' slots and reapply some new upgrades. The shield technology is simplified, but there are far more weapon choices both for your multitool and ship
Graphics - Totally overhauled. It always had a lovely 'look' that was very much it's own and what they have done is turn that up to 11. The ships are now really detailed with paint chips and stickers/markings, aged soot marks near engines etc. Same for all the other ships and ground transports. They look more real and less stylized 'cartoon'. The planets themselves are far closer to the original concept video's than what we had previously. When you find one that says 'abundant' for plants and animal life it really is.
For a patch to weigh in bigger than the orginal game and all previous patches put together you know they have changed a few things
If you still like the game you should love this patch, if you were getting bored with it maybe still give it a try. So much has changed and just the nice graphics on their own make it a more enjoyable place to stay for a while

Noticed any bugs yet? Not trolling, just past experience of bigger updates for this game would suggest awaiting a minor patch or two before jumping right in...
A few graphic glitches and some sound stutters. Tried creative mode multiplayer last night And one of us fell through a planet and one of us fell through a freighter. Played a bit more today and apart from the occasional sound stutter and minor graphic stutters I personally haven’t come across any big bugs. However Broadspeed did encounter any issues where he lost his in tire say again progress from before the patch. I haven’t had this but a quick google investigation indicates that this has happened to a few users each time they update the game.
Have no doubt there will be a patch out shortly as they seem to do that every single time they update the game
When I heard NMS was coming to XBO I was mildly interested. After the botched launch, lies and savage backlash, I was intrigued in playing it, to see if it really was that bad.
Then I saw they wanted £50 for it. fk off! £10 / £15 maybe, which would go some way to justifying its purchase considering its such a toxic title - but seems like the marketing minds behind NMS want to see it fail hard a second time.
Updates, multiplayer and new graphics dont get around the fact that the game is old news, and for a good reason. Its well documented that NMS was a over hyped and massively forgettable title. Not sure some more polish and multiplayer will change that.
Well done for Hello Games for sticking with it, but seriously I think they have massively over estimated the value of a game thats 2 years old, was plagued with issues, failed to deliver in almost every aspect, has no end game and is now competing with similar space based resource grinding / base building titles.

I was really interested in this when it dropped two years back, didn't have a PS4 but admired the concept. Ensuing fallout made interesting reading as it just seemed to fail to deliver so hugely.
Fast forward two years and i've just picked it up for XB1 having never played it before, I'm rather excited to come fresh to the game and to play it how it stands now.
I paid £32 for a sealed physical copy off ebay, not too bad really.

Well I've given it another 4 hours or so and I think I'll just accept it's not for me.
Still seems to be the same basic makework/rinse and repeat gameplay with the same annoying inventory management and somehow they seemed to have made the controls annoying. Not quite sure why I need about 3 different keys to confirm/select/choose the options. No easy way to track what ingredients I need and sometime stuff just doesn't work properly.
Well done to Hello games for sticking with it when they could have just taken the money and run.
