One of the few well know non Nazi German tank commanders of WW2

He refused Himmlers orders to join the Waffen SS
Thanks for that. I don't know if fought because he had to, because he felt it was right for his family or if he believed in the cause, though presumably being drafted and refusing the join the Waffen SS is an indication. I bet his book, Tigers in the Mud, is an interesting read.

Noticed he was injured whilst being a loader in the PZ38t. Most likely by some nobber in an PZIII because he wasn't scouting.

LOL.

Seriously good read though, highly recommended.

"Circon, i was playing on this map and have to say, there is still some dust. Take out your Vacumer Max, and clean it again please. Thx."

Once you get used to the tanks, it's actually quite fun I find. It's a good crew trainer too.

Winning or losing don't matter. Definitely don't try to cap. Just do the damage:

3,300 with the "Polar Bear" French TD

2,500 with the "Mammoth" American heavy

1,700 with the "Arctic Fox" Russian light.

...and you'll get 10,000 credits and 1,500 XP per game.

If you just do 500 damage a game, 25 times, you'll get a 250,000 credit and 25,000 XP bonus. You can repeat that 5 times.

I've really only played the Polar Bear and Mammoth so far, but with the 25K XP bonus on the Polar Bear the crew are up to 80% on their first skills. The gunner is on 91%.

Platoons get more bonuses and you can have a 5 man platoon with this one.

Update:

My "Mammoth" American heavy tank crew:

Not bad considering I only got them yesterday.

Once this game mode ends, the TD, heavy and light tank crews will be sent to the barracks and retrained automatically to the Foch 155 TD, T110E5 US heavy and LTTB Russian light respectively.

I don't have any of those tanks, but the crew can be transferred to other tanks as normal.

I'm eventually grinding towards the Foch and the E5, so I may as well play the mammoth and TD thing, though it's...meh.

In other news, I finally elited and sold the Sherman III, which I hated; seemed like a crap M4, another tank I didn't really get on with, though the 56% win rate in that suggests otherwise. 46% in the Sherman III.

Anyhow, first game in the Firefly:

Might have a keeper smile

That's a hell of a first game, good going clap. The Firefly does look interesting with that top gun, will have to give it a try at some point.

Is the XP reward from the 8bit game free XP or just convertible to free? I guess the latter but the cash for playing is tempting. Have only seen it on stream, not tried it, but it looked entertaining enough (at least for a short while).

Very nice Firefly game there.

The other day I was in a tier 4 TD platoon with a couple of friends. I had the Stug and the other 2 had Hetzers. One of them had just bought it before the game for the LOLs. Anyway I shot stuff up for about 650 damage, but got no kills. One Hetzer got 2 kills, but the other got 8 kills in his very first game with it. No Radley Walter's at tier 4 sadly, but a Top Gun, High Calibre, Ace Tanker and because we were both on the TD platoon mission, we got that too.

Which was nice. biggrin

You'd have to convert it to free XP with gold. Once the game mode ends in a couple of weeks, any XP you may have left with the 8 bit tanks will be transferred to the relevant nation's tier 1. You'd have to be mad not to enable Accelerated Crew Training though.

BTW, I underestimated how much XP you actually get. If you do the damage I mentioned above, you'll get 1,500 Combat XP
plus 1,500 Crew XP every game. So 3,000 XP per man and 6,000 XP for the crew member whose turn it is with Accelerated Crew Training.

Do at least 500 damage over 25 games and you get 25,000 Combat XP, 25,000 Crew XP and 250,000 credits. So 50,000 XP per man, but the guy who has Accelerated Crew Training will get an incredible 100,000 XP.

No wonder my Commander jumped from the mid 90% level on his first skill to 61% on his second skill in one go. The gunner and driver had also been at the same level and jumped up with their 50K XP bonuses.

The loader had already received an earlier 100K bonus, so he was just on to his second crew skills when the 50K bonus bumped him up too.

BTW the tanks secondary ammo is a healing round that you can use to increase the health of friendly tanks. These are 400 credits a go though and it's apparently not really worth doing unless you are playing the Arctic Fox light tank. QB says that if you heal people with your Arctic Fox, you'll get an extra 750 XP and 3,000 credit bonus per game.

ok, thanks. Figured that would be the case. Funnily enough I've just been working on skilling up my French TD crew, took an age to get them to sixth sense so it's a little frustrating I could have done it this way much quicker but hey ho.

Also I completed the Arty missions (up to the platooning) over the weekend. People reeaallly don't like arty at the momenthehe. Fair play to the FAME unicum who got his light tank blown up, he was decent about it when I explained it was the mission, seemed like a nice guy. Most of the others were less effusive in their praise, and had I followed out even half of their suggestions I would have been on the news by now. Still it got me to elite the GWTiger (P) so that's sold now, and for a little while at least I'm arty free. party

Players generally hate being knocked out of the game without warning by something they can't see or counter. It's too late for World of Tanks, but it's why they're not having submarines in World Of Warships.

well fair enough, I feel that way too normally. Did feel a bit of a heel doing the missions, but done now.

I saw Jingles World of Warships video yesterday, it does look quite nice. Seems a little slower paced than tanks, and possibly less chance for 'skill' to be a factor - it did seem to be a lot of slugging it out type play but I guess that is pretty much how a lot of the maritime warfare was back then.

New map on the 360 next week, "Pacific Island", modeled after an island that saw combat in the Pacific theatre, scaled down to 1/8 size and modified to make it decent to play on. Whether it will be good or another st "World of Tank Destroyers" map remains to be seen.

Interesting. I remember playing the Wake Island map on Battlefield 1942.

I watched that last night too. There were definitely submarines in the early versions; I recall seeing one of the big Japanese fleet subs that had their own aircraft hanger cruising around. That was a couple of years ago though.

It looks better than I thought it would. I know Jingles is ex-navy, but I'm sure he'd slag it off if he thought it was bad. He did with World of Warplanes.

There were submarines, apparently removed from the game as WG felt it was unfair that one vehicle type could shoot the others without being seen, or directly engaged with conventional weapons. This is used by arty moaners as a reason that SPGs should be removed from WOT.

The difference being of course that arty can be engaged with conventional weapons, and if it comes to a direct fight, they are at an enormous disadvantage.

You canl make the same argument (as others have done) about TDs and what passes for a camouflage system; people get equally irate about getting smashed to pieces by something invisible in a bush 100 meters away.

To go along with the Pacific Island map, the Chi-nu Kai is coming in a fairly cheap premium bundle. I'll be giving this one a miss, I'm not that excited about Japanese tanks, which presumably will be coming next month for us.
