World of Tanks (Vol 2)
Discussion
Just elited the Firefly, and by extension, the Achilles.
Despite initial indications that the Firefly was a keeper, I'm selling it. It's good, but it's essentially a TD with poor camo values and mediocre view range.
It's too soft to be played anything other than very carefully. The gun is VERY bouncy, compared to its other applications, and the rof could do with a bit of a buff, IMO.
Plus, it loses the engine and ammo rack pretty much every time it gets hit.
It only gets the opportunity to shine rarely and the narrow play style limits how fun it can be.

I've just started with the Achilles this last week - it seems pretty nice. I guess it benefits by comparison to the Firefly through having better view range (370 iirc) and camo. Bit of a fail team magnet so far though, but really not that many games. Gun depression is a bit disappointing, never quite seems to have as much as expecting it to have, but compared to the Archer its a revelation.Despite initial indications that the Firefly was a keeper, I'm selling it. I preferred the Firefly to the achilles. Though I'm not sure why. I ground out all the kit on the achilles, but did the grind for the Challenger on the Firefly.
The archer....just too soft, too short a view range, with a gun that didn't quite do enough damage, didn't quite fire fast enough, and wasn't quite accurate or penetrating enough.

Yeah that was the thing with the Archer, it just didn't have anything outstanding (penetration was perhaps its only advantage) and certainly nothing to offset the pain in the bum factor of having to drive it backwards whenever you actually wanted to go any distance.
Sad really, because in reality thing was quite successful I believe - at least it had many years of active service. Just another WOT British tank to be filed under 'not as good as it should have been'. I'm still hoping for great things from the tier 10 replacements for the FV4202 and FV215b, but wouldn't be shocked if they were pretty average at best.

M3 Lee most popular?
Gateway tank to the American heavy line, Xbox market is mainly American, hence the US tank popularity and the US flag being the most popular emblem. Interesting also that the VK36.01H is on the list, probably because so many rush for the Tiger and give up. Each tier is made of successively smaller player pools, as more players start to give up when it the XP costs for new packages and tanks get heavy. Is there any "PH" teams about looking for new members? I've been playing now for a number of years and have a range of tanks from T5 to T9, getting my head around a very slow fully loaded E75 currently and working on my Russian TD's. 4138 Personal Rating, tad over 50% win ratio on public games.
Sure, there's a Pistonhead's clan called VBRJ. We don't do clan wars, strongholds - at least not yet anyway. But you do get some nice stickers to put on your tanks.

I or any other member can send you an invite if you'd like. What's your WoT name?
Even if you don't join, you can still add you details to the list here:

I've kept the Archer, as I enjoy it. Sure, on some maps there are only a couple of spots you can go to (city maps) but it is a challenge to play, and when you get it right, feels good. No lack of penetration, and it is very easy to do more than your HP in damage. Makes a mean little sniper. Got an M on it.
Firefly is a tier 7 gun on a tier 5 tank at tier 6, so, yes, plays like a second line TD/ support tank. Thing is, the Achilles is better in that role... (Better ROF, faster to relocate when needed)
Haven't got to Challenger yet.
Am having decent success with the Crusader these days, whereas it used to be a tank I was terrible with. Finally got MOE ring on it...

That looks cool, nice sticker ;-) If you need some Tier 5-6 cannon fodder I'm available...Whats needed to use the teamspeak BTW? any-old headphone/mic combo will do and handled ingame I assume?
Second game of the night, Highway, encounter battle with tier 10s. I ended the match with an Ace Tanker, Top Gun and I got my Expert: USA medal, after nailing a T92, he must have been the last tank on the list. It was a brilliant game, working with a great player in an M48 Patton who was hunting out targets for me, he spotted them, I smashed them with a 7.2" HE shell, and the onto the next one. We ended with 9000+ damage between us.
I should have felt the auspices, in the previous game, my first shot of the day killed a full-health T34. Clearly, divine power guided my shells.

Secured a tier 6 autoloader and tier 5 TD last night- at f**king last! I can actually do some reasonable damage and take a few hits, no more being one shotted while chipping a handful off! :-)
Managed to get to the end of 3 games in a row to boot and scored some serious coin and XP- such a shame the grind up 1-5 is so painful!
