I couldn't imagine playing without voice chat, it's great to to be able to explain on the fly what you're doing and what you want from your platoon without them having to guess - in heated situations I wouldn't want my hands off the controls for even a second to type - though typing is slow as hell without the Xbox chat pad, though I don't have one of those, since everyone just uses their headsets.

I can't wait to get back on tonight and blow some st up. Man I love and hate WOT.
I suspect there is a higher % of chat on xbox as its common across alot of games and a younger audience (possibly?) but I agree, its a pain in the arse without it IMO, now I've tried it.

I'd imagine it's probably utilised by a greater proportion of the community as it's the primary method of communication during gameplay, and everyone gets a microphone headset, no matter which console package they bought.

Am I the only one out there who didn't realise how good the French tier 6 ARL 44 is?

This is truely a hidden gem (hidden from me anyway).

I have almost completed the grind with only 10k left to go but it has been by far the easiest grind I have experienced to date. 75% win rate and this thing just seems to dominate any game it is in, even against tier 8s!

It is slow (it is a heavy after all) but has a decently sloped upper plate with 190mm of effective armour if properly angled. It won't save you against higher tier opponants but can bounce lower tier stuff.

But its all about that top 90mm gun. -10 degrees of gun depression with 212mm of pen and 260mm of pen with the APCR rounds...thats tier 10 levels of penetration at tier 6, doing 240 damage with a decent reload of under 10 seconds with the proper equipment and stuff.

There is nothing it can face that it can't penetrate. Ok it can't take much punishment from higher tier tanks, but with that excellent gun depression you can control the engagement and fight them on your terms.

Who would have thunk it...a French tank that is a keeper! nuts

Initially I hated that tank but once I started learning the playstyle I ended up really liking it. I may have to buy another at some point and add it to the garage as a tier 6 keeper. Most of the time you can get away with the 105mm gun (pack a few gold rounds in the rack just in case you end up against a tier 8 opponent) rather than the 90mm (better pen, less damage than the 105mm).

Yes I used the 105 until I had unlocked the top 90mm. 165 pen at tier 6 is fine and 300 alpha is brutal. Against tier 8s however premium rounds are essential as 165mm is anaemic.

However once I was able to mount that 90mm I never looked back. The better gun handling, faster reload and epic penetration more than made up for the 60 less alpha.

But that 105 is a perfectly usable alternative.

Yeah the Arl was a nice surprise to me too. You don't see many about, which I think benefits it, as people tend to underestimate it. I didn't keep mine once elited as I wanted the crew to move on, but it was good while it lasted.

It's much stronger for it's tier than say the AMX 45 that follows it though, so enjoy it while you can. The AMX 50 100 at tier 8 is a blast too, the French heavy line is pretty good fun all round really.

TBF I am not really enjoying the E100, I find the E75 out performs it nearly 90% of the time.

How do you guys join stronghold battles? Do you have to be in a clan (if so do we have a PH one) and do you have to have premium?

Also what happened to the historic battles?

Stronghold battles are clan based yes, so you do need to be in a clan to get in them. There is no requirement to have a premium account for it, as far as I know.

There is a PH clan, VBRJ, which you are more than welcome to join of course smile, but I don't think there is any stronghold activity going on. That's not to say there can't be, but it would need someone organising it.

The historical battles mode was taken out several patches back, as it was having difficulties getting the matchmaking to work (everyone wanted to play the popular tanks, and the MM needed a range to work properly). I'm not sure if it comes back or not, I guess it could if they can sort the problems out as it's an interesting idea.

I've sent you a invite for the PH clan, think you have to log into your profile on the WOT website to see it (cant remember confused), but it's there for a while if you want it. I'm between PC's for the next few days (building a new one, waiting for parts to come, wife has commandeered the old one already boxedin), but maybe will see you in the clan chat once I'm back.

Happy tanking tank

Read the basic introductory guides. Your tanks aren't useless. Research, read, learn, then come back and ask us for help.

Update 1.10 went live on the Xbox today, the AT-15A got the PC buffs (woo hoo!), the VK45 got the PC buffs, the new PC medals / ribbons got added so we've got stuff like Bruiser, Fire For Effect etc included now, along with a few that I think are Xbox specific. A lot of model updates went in too, like the IS-7 having it's rear deck shortened, the Centurion getting an updated armour profile etc. The FV4202 was buffed too, probably so that at least someone will play it. I hardly ever them on the field, maybe that will change.

I finally got my IS-7, only had one game in it so far, but more are coming. I've started on the Russian mediums, as I want to try the rear turret stuff on the live server, if only for novelty value. I made the mistake of going through the T line for the lights, they are dreadful!

It probably means you're rushing too far ahead of your team so there is no support available. Try to stay near your team and always stay near some sort of cover so that when you take a hit you have somewhere to hide. If you're caught alone in the open you'll have no chance.

Also watch some YouTube videos from the mighty jingles. He doesn't do tutorials but his videos are entertaining and you'll learn a lot of tactics from watching.

Read through some of the basic guides on here
http://forum.wotlabs.net/index.php?/topic/413-coll...

Basically stop doing stupid stuff first ( being alone, out of cover, charging off)
Start using terrain
Use your tanks strengths. A TD isnt a scout, a scout cant take damage, HT are the fist but you still need to be clever about it. Mediums use mobility to win. Sky cancer (arty) needs to die, dont be one of these.
Map knowledge and strategy come next.

Level up a T18 tank, they are good for low level (T2 tank)
also Level up the British line to a T4 Matilda, they are great in battles and bounce shells off them for fun.

I find the TD tanks are the most fun.

Keep some low levels tanks to make money (t4s and 5s)

Agreed- unless the matchmaking is very against you a T18 can bring in 4kills with ease- the big gun goes through almost all the same tier competition and the frontal armour is thick enough to resist most ammo it meets. The speed will teach you to pick you route carefully and being a TD you'll learn concealment and about view range.
Let others charge in and blaze away then you pick the enemy off from a safe distance- that is the TD's job.

If you have teamspeak then platooning up with someone else and getting some tips and following them around can be handy too.
