Well I came back to WoT after a few weeks back on BF2 (old I know but I like it) and that meant back to playing with my M44. I have to admit I do like arty as it means I can have a beer on the go in one hand while waiting for the aiming lock to stabilise wink

The maps are too bloody small for the high tier arties (tier 5 and above) in my opinion. They can shoot anywhere with impunity.

Arty needs something doing to it.
What should they do to it?

I just spent a vast majority of Le Mans in a hummle in order to get missions. Here are my findings.

1) reload time is 30 seconds
2) it takes 15 seconds to fully zero in
3) the slightest move outside your fov resets the zeroing in.
4) 1 in 5 shells seem to land on target
5) when they hit I will do 300 DMG on avg.

Now tell me that's over powered??

I have no problem with arty and this is coming from someone who plays the T28/T95, meaning I'm normally high on the list of tanks they're looking for. They are great to have in a platoon, I've been playing my M12 over the weekend in my 3 man platoon. It's really helpful if they get pinned or need the extra fire power on a target.

Also they don't really fire with impunity. You get enemy light/medium tanks rush the spawn, your team melts away in 2 minutes and you're left only managing to take one enemy down with a shotgun and finally counter arty. They're similar to TDs in that whilst they can have high damage output you can't carry a team in one by yourself.

I think my problem is when we play in a CIRC platoon, we get singled out for special arty attention.

Mid tier arty is anything but overpowered (to be honest I think tier 6 is about as 'right' as arty gets in the game). Its at the top end, tier's 8 to 10, where the mad splash damage and alpha become a problem. Accuracy matters less when you can miss by several meters and still do 800 dmg.

In fairness though I don't think 'overpowered' is the right way to look at arty, it's not when individual players are taken into account over any largeish number of battles. Problem is because high alpha from mad distance has been balanced by rng (1 hit from 5) then in isolated games they hit and get lucky. Multiply the chance by 2 or 3 due to the numbers of arty in the game and it feels worse than it is. When you get hit you feel its OP because u lost most / all of your HP, but you don't register the misses. Lower Alpha combined with more accuracy or more ROF would be a better balance, but developers like their vodka so...

I can empathise Cirian75, I can imagine the CIRC tag does make you a target, but then I would imagine it's just as much because you will likely be near the front trying to make things happen that you are being shot at too. Price you pay for trying to be assertive, unfortunately.

I'll stick this here too:

Anyone wanting a beta key for World of Warships, just let me know and you can have it for free. It's for the US server, but it's quite playable from the UK (I do).

It seems to go against the grain, but I'm really enjoying the covenantor. My w/r, avg experience, avg dmg, wn8 are all far far higher than normal - with an xTE rating of 87.

One downside is the need to fire premium shells, when facing anything t5 or higher, but it somehow seems worth it - given how much fun it is to play.

I really enjoyed it too. In fact, there are quite a few tanks that are perceived to be garbage, but I've liked. AMX AC46, Leopard Light tank (compared to the Luchs), Matilda Russian premium tank.

I've recently purchased the IS, and I think that I've finally found a HT that I actually enjoy playing. Does the IS line continue in the same vein, or should I just stick with it?

IS line is great till you get to the T9 IS8.

Its not a true heavy tank, its a heavy medium supporting tank.

Teamed up with 2 T54's delivering its 500 alpha as knock out blows it works well

The IS-7 makes up for it, sort of. The 7 is a tremendous brawler, if you can go toe toe with most tanks you can bounce and win, but sadly it's armour means little with all the Waffle / T110E3 / Object 263 premium spammers, they'll put holes in your upper plate no matter what you do with it. It's a great platoon tank, but you need someone to cover you while you're locked toe to toe with an E-100.

With about 5 weeks to go until the Xbox One version goes live, I'm tempted to have a break from WOT until then. I believe there is an open beta which I'll play in the hope of getting a free tank or some gold, before really going back at it properly once the full launch occurs.

I've had the IS at least 3 times. It's probably the second best tier 7 after the T29.

It's a HD model now and looks so good I'm loath to sell it again.

Been on and off this game in the past few weeks (think the only new tank in the past month or so is the Firefly which is pretty terrible so far as I don't have either of the big guns on it), but I do see there's something coming in to lessen the penetration of the TDs and medium tanks at higher tier games to make armour a bit more relevant in the game, does anyone have any details about this? I see in the news that the public test has just started for it.

Here is the news article about them adjusting the pen of higher tier guns.

Many of the normal rounds having pen raised and the gold ammo having the pen reduced which is a big win IMO.

I downloaded the test client and have been having a great time playing any T8/9/10 - certainly has given me a few things to think about on the lines I was following!

Sounds good, less HEAT54's and HEAT100's
