Been on and off this game in the past few weeks (think the only new tank in the past month or so is the Firefly which is pretty terrible so far as I don't have either of the big guns on it), but I do see there's something coming in to lessen the penetration of the TDs and medium tanks at higher tier games to make armour a bit more relevant in the game, does anyone have any details about this? I see in the news that the public test has just started for it.
Once you get the 17pdr it becomes a very good tank. You won't take more than a couple of hits but the gun you have will pen anything you come across for that tier smile

Here is the news article about them adjusting the pen of higher tier guns.

Many of the normal rounds having pen raised and the gold ammo having the pen reduced which is a big win IMO.

I downloaded the test client and have been having a great time playing any T8/9/10 - certainly has given me a few things to think about on the lines I was following!
Looks interesting, will be curious to see how the soft stat buffs on the T10 mediums offset the penetration reductions. STB-1 looks like it might be very good now. Bit concerned that it may cause more HEAT usage though, as even though they are reducing the effectiveness of it, the regular AP is also being reduced. Will people adapt to keep the AP useable, or just switch to using HEAT more?

Centurion 7/1 looks like it might suffer though, it doesn't have a regular high pen premium round to fall back on, it uses the HESH (like the FV4202 also). It's lack of maneuverability was always offset against that high pen gun, now it loses the high pen but doesn't appear to get anything in return. Time will tell I guess, hope it's not another case of the Brit tanks being dumped on.

I can't believe they're making the Centurion 7/1's "bounce gun", as I call it, even worse than it is already. It's so unreliable and that long reload make it a horrible tank to play. I totally regret ever going past the Cromwell, as the tanks after it have been dreadful.

Well I kind of agree - I like the Cent 7/1 quite a lot, but the comet suffers from comparison to the cromwell and the Cent 1 is only good in limited situations. The FV4202 is pretty meh too, compared to the other tier 10 meds.

Happily it seems the centurion (and hopefully the Cent 7/1) will be buffed if necessary according to WG: http://ritastatusreport.blogspot.co.uk/ . They also mentioned again that Arty will be reworked (but no when or how). Of course it could just be words to placate people, who knows.

Really not enjoying playing today.

Seems like loads of 'x3ers' are out in force and I seem to have been drawn almost every game in the side which has no idea how to play the map and, as a result, ends up losing about 15-3. I reckon my win rate for today is about 20%.

On another note, I think I'm going to give up on the AMX 12t. For a light tank it's abysmal.

Thats cool, hope you enjoy it.
Bigmon - feel the same about the AMX12t, it's just to cumbersome to be a really effective LT. It works well in the endgame at cleaning up (if you get that far), but as a front line scout it's pretty limited. If only it had a bit more power, or better terrain stats or something.

I finally nailed Light Tank mission 15 with honours yesterday (do 4000 assistance damage) to complete the Stug IV which is now in my garage.

That probably isn't a big deal to you guys who are probably by now all grinding the T-55A missions, but this is a big deal to me. I have been stuck on that infernal mission for literally months.

I got it using the RU251 and platooned with a mate who was in his tier 9 Arty. He managed to one shot a full health WT E100 and put the hurt on an FV215B. I ended up with 3200 assistance combined with 1500 of my own damage to secure it. I also managed to kill an Ob263, a T57 Heavy and an Ob140 to snag a bonus Orliks medal. (the 140 and 263 were kill steals admittedly evil).

I should have been using the RU251 months ago for this mission, its a beast. That performance was only good enough for 1st class mastery so people are obviously doing really well in this tank.

I can link the replay if anyone cares enough.

I also managed to get my Ace Tanker in the Comet during the same session which I have been chasing for a while too. It took only 2500 damage to achieve so I guess people weren't driving their Comets very well over the last week or so. I would have had closer to 3k damage if I hadn't derped out hard at the end and died stupidly to a 84 hit point AT7 rolleyes

Oh well, its bone head actions like that which prevent me from ever becoming a unicum. Still, it was my best session in ages. smokin

I don't have the Stug either, but I haven't been playing very much.

If I ever did get it, I'd sell it immediately for the garage slot.

Yeah The StuG IV is very underwwhelming. It gets preferential MM because it's gun is so weak. If you have a StuG III, or any other tier 5 TD you really don't need the StuG IV. It doesn't even earn premium tank credits or xp. It's only advantages are the preferential MM and the fact you can use any German TD crew in it for no penalty. I wanted it only as a stepping stone to the next set of missions, but I will probably keep it anyway as I hoard gift tanks and such.

I don't know what medium lines you have ventured down so far but if you are considering Russian mediums you can't go far wrong by going down the T-34 route to the tier 9 T-54. All of the tanks are solid performers and the T-54 is probably OP. It also offers you a choice of 2 tier 10s, the Ob140 and the T-62A, both of which are well regarded.

I can't honestly recommend the other Soviet medium line which leads to the Ob 430. The tanks on that line are more difficult to play (some with rear mounted turrets) and the tier 10 Ob430 is widely regarded as inferior to the Ob140 and T-62A.

Yeah it should be available if you search the store. It's also coming out on XBONE very soon (with cross compatibility) so there should be a whole host of new noob players to kill smile

Congrats!

I was delighted to get all the other classes out instead - MUCH easier.

Only yesterday did I decide to give up on LT-15 for the Stug and start the next LT-1.

I don't play light tanks much as I've never gotten used to the play style required to do well in them, so I'm miles of completing the missions to get the Stug.

The light tank missions are definitely the hardest of the sets, if not least because some of them are only possible under certain circumstances (having the right map, competent teams etc etc). I would say though that they don't seem to scale up much, if you can do the LT missions for the Stug then they are not really any harder on the T28HTC (LT15 aside).

On the T-55a missions currently (about 75% done) and while overall they are more challenging the mission rewards are certainly nice. Currently getting rewarded in premium days and garage slots, which is never bad and the earlier T-55a missions give a lot of credits. As a tank the T28HTC is definitely worth trying for.

It's a good line the T-54 line - not really a bad tank from Tier 5 up. Tier 7 is probably the worst of the bunch, but by no means terrible. The tier 6 T-34-85 is very very good and I think quite underrated - a lot of the streamers will play the Cromwell by choice at tier 6, but personally I think the 34-85 is better as an all rounder.
