Gosh the Luchs can be a fun tank when the moment takes it. I think I'll train up a light crew in this in preparation for the eventual higher tier lights being added. I've no interest in playing the Awful Panther, but that little thing that has replaced it barely looks better. The tier 8 looks like good fun though.

Other than that, I can't remember a worse night on World of Tanks, absolutely dreadful MM and RNG. The T95E2 has turned out to be a real belter, that crazy front slope can pull off some good bounces, but the turret armour leaves a lot to be desired, not to mention that the turret is mounted a long way back on the chassis, so you need to expose a lot of yourself in a corner fight. The gun is reliable and the mobility seems pretty good, for such a lump of a tank it's handy at ridge-poking.

It's Wargaming's 17th anniversary, so....

It seems that crew exp is going to be 3x all weekend. Which is good.

Every 25,000 xp you gain gets you a "personal reserve XP bonus" (which lasts 4 hours, from when you activate it).

Repeat this three times and you'll get some coated optics and a garage slot. Much wow.

I don't know if it'll also be a X3 or X5 for the first win too. I hope not or it'll bring out the idiots and the servers will be put in 'fast mode' to ensure one-sided games.

Anyone who doubts there are no such things as bots should play WOT whenever there is a x3 or x5 weekend. It's almost not worth the extra for the amount of idiots that turn up.

On which note, has anyone noticed how much worse the game has got since the school holidays started? The vast majority of games I now seem to play are ending something like 14-2 with one side (and it seems to be my side more often than not) getting utterly obliterated.

Patch 9.9 is still a buggy POS.

It doesn't blue screen as much since they issued a couple of small updates, but it crashes to desktop every few games and doesn't like to be alt-tabbed out of.

Ectar posted something on the forums which suggests the EU server is getting better rewards / missions etc after gamescom - something to do with this being the RU 17th anniversary but not EU until later in the month, so hopefully it is better then.

I'll be avoiding the game this weekend though - not worth it when its such a special imo too.

Too true. It'll be painful & the rewards aren't worth it.

Anyway I got my Ace Tanker tonight with the ST-I, the tier 9 Soviet heavy.

I got into the game a tad late as the game CTD and this tank isn't very quick. I arrived just in time to stop the enemy push through the town on Lakeville. Did about 4.5K damage and bounced nearly 6K. This tank can be quite intimidating against tier 8s.

Check it out:

Our Object 704 had a godly game and I wouldn't be surprised if he got Ace Tanker too. He was well and truly jammed in at the end by dead tanks. I would have tried to budge one for him, but there wasn't much time left. It didn't seem to stop him anyway.

Very nice game there, well played - the ST1 does look like a monster in those situations, the amount of bounces eek. Holding the tanks off like you did was great, Obj too had a good game, albeit just sniping from the corner mostly - the position the enemy got into meant he could just chew them up, very nice for him in that tank. The Super Pershing too that was with you most of the time also played a huge role - although his damage wasn't great he was stopping them from just rushing you, which to be fair was their only real option. If he had wandered off or gotten too aggressive then could have gotten a bit awkward, but he was smart too.

That would easily have been HT15 on the T28HTC, and very possibly on the T55a too.

Still stuck on the KV4 grind myself, it's not such a bad tank but just not massively fun either, and the turret is a bit of a let down - tier 8's did this to me (the buggers)..

Thanks, yes the Super Pershing behind kept them honest all right. All though it was by accident, that spot is actually a good place for a defence. You can get support from the left and it's arty safe.

I like the slow, but tough Soviet heavy tanks. The KV-4 reminds me of the Churchill tanks in that it's creeping death. The very fact you keep moving forward bouncing shot after shot had a nice intimidatory factor. At 100 tonnes it's great for ramming too.

In the ST-I game before that one I got 5 kills. I even did the "good guy" thing of taking (and bouncing) a shot for our IS-8 who was on low health and tracked side on.

My good deed for the day done, I got chat banned a little later. biggrin I think it was because I'd had a go at out Sturer Emil player who was camping in the top right of Erlenberg, where he was quite useless. His excuse was that it was slow and had no armour. I said yeah, but it's got a big fking gun, so use it. I guess you're not allowed to swear.

I'm struggling with the E-75 for the same reason. It's like a crap Tiger II at the moment.

Interesting graphics comparison between the platforms:

An interesting comparison, though the XB1 clip is recorded at 720p for some reason. The graphics are beautiful now, Sand River at dawn with the pyramids in the background looks amazing now, as do the Moorish towns on El Halluf, some really nice touches in the game. I can't help but think that people are getting a bit caught up on the graphics though regardless of platform, the same rage inducing gameplay remains!

VK45.02B is proving to be very strong, very strong indeed. The armour is just comical, it bounces tier 10 TDs for breakfast when angled properly, even worse for them when they've got HEAT instead of APRC and I'm angled perfectly, I've had them try to crack my armour only to give up and shoot something else of run away once they realised that from certain angles the VKB is nearly invincible hehe

I've researched the E-75 and bought one but sold it after 2 games, I just couldn't face that grind. The VKB grind will unlock some bits for it, so when I go back to it in the future it won't be so bad.

Did 2992 with the Panther 2 for the same mission for mediums, before finally getting it a few days later. Was irked.

Bah and a 2905 with a couple of stupid rng misses.

Almost at ISU-152 time, worth it?

Obj 263 is the better tier 10 by far, but it's a painful grind to get it. ISUs gun will troll you hard.

Once you get to the top gun on the ISU then it's very very good - 750 alpha with massive penetration means you are a threat to everything you face. It's slow though, like the SU152, and a favourite target of most people due to the pain it can cause.

As ATJ says the gun can also be very troll - it's not exactly accurate, although the hand of stalin seems to guide many shots and it always felt more accurate to me than it suggested in the numbers, but I've not played it since the accuracy changes a few patches back.

The grind through the ISU to get to the top gun will feel just like playing the SU152 more, but in higher tier games more often - same tactics apply.

The Obj704 tier 9 is brilliant too, and well worth getting. I'd stop there though, the tier 10 isn't an upgrade at all really.

I agree. I also stopped after eliting the Object 704 as well. Great TD.

Make sure you unlock all the guns on the SU-152 before moving on. You don't want to have to do that at tier 8.

The 152 mm derp gun is still the best gun to use on the ISU-152 before you unlock the BL-10. There's an intermediate gun you could get, but personally I ignored it & went straight for the BL-10.

Thanks , all the su-152 guns are unlocked. Hurting from the price of the gold ammo on the 152 though.

Far prefer the faster nippy playstyle of the earlier TD's of the line tho (su-85 etc). Su-152 is a slow pig you pick a spot hope the game comes your way, but not too quickly because of the shocking reload times.

I had a nice game with the WZ-111 premium tank earlier. Didn't win of course - it's a weekend - but still.

The crew is about 95% trained (for the IS-2) and has no skills at all.

Pretty sure it would have been a Radley Walters if I hadn't been "balanced" for camping hard. Their IS-3 was AFK I think.

Still, I made over 75,000 credits from it.

panther 2 is now fully upgraded, its not a bad tank, not particular a good one either.

Its mobility vs the other T8 mediums is a complete joke.
