Are you sure on the churchills you aren't using premium repair packs? On those you just hit 4 and it repairs everything. On standard repair packs you have to hit 4 to repair, then another key to choose what you want repairing - it's easy then to hit the wrong thing and all kinds of confusion ensues.

Worst is when you have a fire burning (6 key for me) but accidentally open up repairs and cant get out of it in the panic to stop the fire hehe
That sounds like what's happening - also explains why it is costing a fortune to repair the Churchill!

Fires aren't usually a problem - I'm putting them out before they start when tracked!

biggrin Something tells me WOT is going to be one of the most frequently 'redownloaded' games of all time.

Sadly no sign yet of MM being touched, despite it being pretty much at the top of everyones 'what is wrong with WOT' list (along with Arty, of course). All you can do is play limited mm premium tanks, or tier 9/10 which at least means you wont have any +2 to deal with. That's massively limiting though, if you want to play favourite tanks that don't meet those requirements.

How many maps are there in the game? I'm only playing tiers 5 & 6 at the moment and I'm getting a bit bored with the map selection.
About 34 active live maps in Randoms - not including the winter versions (i.e same map, coloured white) and the various different game mode layout changes. A couple do have restricted tiers though, but I think around tier 5 and 6 you should be seeing most of them eventually.

The map rotations on the server are pretty poor though - they only have a few loaded in memory at a time (changes every few hours alledgedly), and there are some maps that are flagged not to come up so often as players voted they didn't like them (such as Stalingrad and Kharkov).

New map, Paris, in 9.16.

Ah right, didn't realise so many had been locked until tier 7. So not only is the step up in tanks and players tough at that tier, you have to learn new maps too. Stronk WG logic.

Remember, battle tier isn't the same as the tier of the vehicle.

OK following on from my gripe about the aiming capablities of the IS-2, there is another problem which is now evident and ruining the game for me - so much so that I'm continually restorting back to the Churchills. The issue is the visibility of enemy tanks. I appreciate the mechanics of the game, however, if I'm first to an area (never happens in the Churchill!) I get shot at by the enemy only to then find there is a whole bunch of them directly in front of me after they have shot and tracked me. I never see them first or even at the same time. It is getting v. frustrating...!
It sounds like you really need to work on your understanding of the game mechanics and your gamecraft. Generally, heavy tanks have amongst the worst spotting capabilities and the lowest camo values. You're less likely to spot whoever it shooting at you and more likely to be spotted by the enemy in turn.

If you're moving into an open space, especially early in the game, when there are a lot of enemies unaccounted for - as in still alive, but not spotted, you should be expecting some of them to be looking your way. Don't put yourself in exposed positions until you know where the enemy are, where they're looking and that they can't shoot back. In tanks like the IS-2, I rarely roll through open areas until I'm closing the game and I know that I won't get stuck in the open and torn to bits by hidden enemies. Just because the IS-2 is quick for a heavy, it shouldn't be on the front line until you know where the enemy are and you can engage them on your own terms. On corridor maps you can get stuck in earlier since you know exactly where the shots are going to come from and you can angle accordingly, and the enemy cannot really hide anyway.

Once you really understand the spotting and camo mechanics you can start really using them to your advantage with certain vehicles, by spotting and shooting the enemy from outside the range at which they can spot you back. It's probably also worth going to the WOT wiki and reading up on HEAT ammo, since the premium round for the IS-2 122mm gun is a HEAT round and they require a different style of use to the standard APCR premium ammo.

I shall not play it again, its just so bad. T9 and 10 are the worst levels to play

T67's are a menace if played well, I always try target them asap at ~tier 5 , must be hard to ace them.

I currently have a wolverine which is fun, always been tempted to pick up the t67 and have a play.

Hating the T30 at the moment so could shift that crew back.

I've heard that expression before what does it mean to ace a tank?
Its the 'M' badge on the result above. mastery or Ace tanker badge.

Means your game xp for that tank was above 99% of all the games in that tank for the previous week.

This is oddly often easier to achieve in little used poorly performing tanks, to do it in a popular often played monster like the t67 is harder

They are in a platoon (aka group).
Gives you a 3 tank chat group - and specific awards/medals

These you can make in game now but they are the only way of being able to enter a game before hand with people you know.

So in that example all 3 are from the same clan - so are likely talking on teamspeak etc, and know how each other play, and support each other.

A well put together platoon can decimate the enemy, you can focus fire enemy tanks down, protect each others weak points etc

If I ever see a plat from the same clan I am always wary about them

There is a PH clan on the EU server, "VBRJ", with our own natty PH logo on the tanks.

I like my CIRC one, how many PH'ers are in the clan who regularly play?

Its been a while since I've seen one in battle.

I've been playing this on the ps4 for a couple of months. To be honest I am getting fairly annoyed with it now. I read a comment on a recent page about getting killed by one shot by invisible tanks. This is basically the story of my life, even when I haven't been detected.
I am getting well and truly fed up always being the lowest ranked tank in every battle.
How Is the matchmaking done (it most definitely isn't via tank level)
I have currently scrapped my American tank destroyer strategy as the t30 I saved forever for is useless. I am now grinding German heavy tanks as this seems to be the way to go.

Any advice would be welcomed.

It varies, though regularly only 5 or 6 on tops. Lots of people joined couple of years ago, but interest waned in the game I guess. To be honest the clan isn't 'active' in that sense, there is no attempt at clan wars or strongholds for example, but sometimes there are people on who will platoon if asked, like myself or Kozzy (don't have to be in the clan to ask either, just might get ignored if your name doesn't register).

The PH logo looks good on the tanks though smile

Why do you think the T30 is useless? Once you've unlocked the top gun it is an absolute monster. The body is quite soft but it has very good gun depression and can put out a hell of a lot of damage. I've done over 5K of damage in some of my games in it.

If you're a new player I wouldn't make the mistake of rushing up the tank tiers. Take your time, especially around tiers 4 - 6. That seems to be a good place to learn.

Haven't got any specific experience of the PS4, but in the PC the best advice is generally not to rush - either in battles or in terms of how quickly progressing to the next tanks. The game generally rewards patience, and the faster your go up in tank tiers the quicker you meet more experienced players with skilled crews who will spot you sooner / know where to blind shoot.

Matchmaking is supposed to work along tiers, but with a element of 'flex' to keep the queue times down. Each tank is given a matchmaking weight, broadly aligned to tank tiers, then the matchmaker attempts to create teams with the same weight on both sides with a tolerance of +/-10% iirc. It is hard capped to only consider tanks +-2 tiers apart, with a few special exceptions (light tanks, limited tier premiums).

Problem is due to the distribution of players you can sometimes get a run of games where you are bottom tier facing tanks +2 tiers up (on the PC tier 8 is very bad for this), which kind of blows. The system also doesn't take into account types of tanks, only their match making weights, so its not unusual to see a team full of heavies vs a team full of light TD's for example - there's usually only one outcome. It's the games biggest weakness by far but they seem unable or unwilling to really fix it.

Joining a clan is usually done through the WG website once invited, no idea if same on PS4 though.

The gun it comes with belongs several tiers below. It won't penetrate armour of tier 8-10. The more powerful gun is 1400000 points. That's a hell of a grind when you've only got a peashooter. Yup I could use gold to transfer xp, but would need convincing that the do couldn't be better spent elsewhwre
