I don't know whether MM just has it in for me, but whenever I play arty most of my shots land at the outside edge of the aiming circle (if not outside) despite aiming at a stationary tank, waiting for the aiming circle to resolve, wait a bit more, then fire. Drives me nuts and I swear I'll never play arty again (right up until I do).

American SPGs FTW! My M55 is a complete wrecking ball, as a result the grind to the T92 has got to be one of the easiest grinds to a tier 10! Had a 7 kill carry game in it last week and yesterday my 4th kill in a game was ramming the crap out of some French light tank. The RnG doesn't like when I get too good in it though and as a result after a belter I normally have a couple of games where my shells just go wherever the hell they want. frown

It was even easier through the M43 smile

I've played a few games in artillery, 1483 according to my stats page on the WOT console site. I try not to look at it much these days as I find the more I focus on improving my stats the less I enjoy actually playing. I find the game so much more enjoyable just to pick any tanks I want (playing a "weak" tank because I find it fun used to feel like a guilty pleasure) and not care so much about winning or losing, or trying to make every game into a monster game.

With regard to the easiest tier X grind, the M55 is surely a breeze once the top gun is unlocked, but the Object 704 has to be worth a mention - comes straight out of the box with everything but the top tracks and radio! It's a beast too, for the most part. I don't rate the armour as much as some, it's a good assault gun against tier 7s but it's never really got more than 160mm on the front not matter what you do with it so it can get torn to bits easily - but that gun, when it works, is a gem for smashing holes in tier Xs and having no stock gun grind makes the 704 a breeze.

I also picked up a Kaiju last night with some gold I had lying about, basically an O-I with all the top upgrades and a snazzy crackle finish paintjob and some big Kanji on the side. I had been doing the Monster Hunter op (log so many games with kills within a 14 day period sort of thing) to earn one, but they are selling it and playing it during the operation time gives double crew XP, so I bought one and I'll use it to complete the OP while training up a Japanese crew in double quick time. Once the op is complete I'll use my free monster tank token to buy Kraft's Panther, which is a great looking tank.

I finished the monster hunter op last night and got the panther. I haven't really played it yet though.

The one thing the monster hunter op has taught me though is the game seems to be played more or less exclusively by complete s.

They sit and wait for you to wear a tank down and take the kill before you reload or if you are playing tank destroyer will routinely block you when you are sniping to prevent you returning to cover, ram you as you are about to kill a target, push you out of a sniping position (medium tanks with st guns usually) or as I have had on a few occasions actually push you over a cliff to,your death.

If anyone does this I usually block them so I don't have to play with them again, but it's really spoiling the game for me. Hopefully it will drop off as the op finishes.

I'm playing through the S-51 at the moment, amazing and terrible in equal measure. I had to convert some XP to get the top gun because playing with the stock 152mm gun was dire beyond imagining. Now with the 203mm gun, it at least feels like it can take part in some battles. The 152 was terrible with direct hits doing weak damage, which the slow reload, terrible gun arc and poor accuracy just compounded. At least the 203, when it hits, completes wrecks - which is not often, it must be said. I'm really only on this line for the Object 261 because I think it will make an interesting counterpoint to my Conqueror Gun Carriage and that is a long way off yet!

Overall, GwPanther is still the strongest tier 7 artillery by far. It only does about 450 a shot on a non-penetrating hit, but it fires fast and accurately, so average damage per game is much higher than the S-51 and it's much less stressful to play - my blood pressure must take an absolute hammering when I'm in the S-51.
I find the S51 to be very much a 'feast or famine' tank. I had my best night in it recently where I got two 'M' ratings in consecutive games.

It helps if you platoon with someone who takes a higher tier. My first 'M' game had a lot of tier 9s and 10s and, as a consequence, I got just shy of 5K damage (so also got the medal where you score 10x your hitpoints in an arty).

Other nights it will miss repeatedly.

One of my all time favorite moments was Himmelsdorf, starting from the North side, t3 match.

I went hill in the C2, alone. Crawling up the hill I met a Pz1C who had just come over the crest as I getting close to the top.

The exchange went something like this:

Dakka-dakka-BOOOM!

Teamspeak from him a second later:

Dafuq?

This op really has brought out the worst in some players. I think they need to think more carefully about the ops in future, maybe set an XP target and reward good play rather than kill poaching. I bought a Kaiju ahead of time, the crew training has been insane. It's an absolute monster of a tank, the name is very apt.

With regards to the S-51, I do like it even though it's a bit gimped in some ways. At least I can grind it safe in the knowledge that the Object 261 awaits. I played the similarly flawed GwTigerP and couldn't enjoy it knowing the end of the line was the underwhelming GWE-100.

I've revisited WOT today after an absence of several months. However, things do not seem good for me connection wise. I have fibre broadband and a high spec machine .

I have played 2 games and given up owing to lag, viz: I go to move and nothing happens for several seconds , hence how I was killed both times. Also, the enemy appears in one place, then everything stops and they magically appear elsewhere. Have they throttled bandwidth, is anyone else having similar problems?

Tells me there is 33 ms ping, although sometimes says 55 ms ping. Any ideas anyone?

P/S Ookla tells me 32.91 mbps download 6.65 upload, ping 10ms

I'm getting sucked back in, after about a year of not playing.
I've found that by only playing tanks I enjoy and not caring about grinding to new stuff that I probably won't like anyway I'm actually enjoying it more (what a shocker)!

So for now WOT for me is: M49, M41-90, Type 62, Mutz, Cromwell B, Mathilda, IS6 and no artillery!

It's just a little depressing looking at all the other premiums that I've wasted hard earned on. 7 enjoyable tanks out of 224 I've tried! (Not strictly true, I loved the IS, WZ-131 and Chaffee too but they don't get played anymore) http://www.noobmeter.com/player/eu/enjo/501370832/

I took a month off, haven't been grinding anything on return, though I might pile some hours into finishing off the Object 268 grind next week, chances are though that I'll just keep playing my tier Xs for fun. The IS-7 and 113 are getting a good showing and I'm having favourable results in both, particularly surprising in the 113; it's still in it's old pre-buff state so not on par with the PC version yet and objectively isn't an amazing heavy tank. In the right position, with the right angle it can really take some punishment and the gun is decent too, if lacking a little in pen.

I can't wait to play the 113 with more gun depression, more DPM, etc.

So i played WoT during beta and then the first couple of months after launch...i just checked and discovered that was 6 years ago!! Crikey, time flies!

My best memory is that i nailed 9 other tanks with my Marder II in one match, 5 of which were when i was the only tank left on my team! I think they nerfed the Marder shortly after and that may have been why i stopped playing...

Anyway I imagine the graphics and the range of tanks available will have changed massively in 6 years.....but has the gameplay changed at all? Still the same old simple fun or anything new been introduced? I saw they've done Planes and Ships games as well so assume most of the effort has gone into those?

The basic mechanics I bet are the same. Some changes to camo and view stuff, some to HE damage etc.

The meta has changed a lot. tanks, maps, positioning etc

There are more physics now - you can fall off cliffs, roll the tank etc. TD's and scouts are nowhere near as effective as they were in the early days.
There are loads more tanks - they just released two Swedish branches today!

A well angled top tier Duck is indeed OP when you're the one shooting at it.

I have got the M4 derp just for the derp,

zero intention of grinding the line.
