I saw they've done Planes and Ships games as well so assume most of the effort has gone into those?
Absolutely No effort went into planes at all, its a smouldering pile of unplayable ste.

Ships is good, Tanks is better IMO.

TD's and scouts are nowhere near as effective as they were in the early days.
Don't I know it. Finally gave in and got a Hellcat, ye gods, the gun I have in that is useless, apparently it only fires rubber coated peas. I've had numerous bounces or "critical" hits on arty, it completely fails to even scratch the paint on a lot of tanks I get put against. Doing my head in. I'm going to grind the sucker to get the top tier gun and see if that can do more than cause slight paint blemishes, if not it's going again.

The Hellcat gun is still very strong for it's tier. The changes in the meta that nerfed all TDs was the big view range nerf and Wargaming's endless obsession with corridor maps with a lack of open spaces, so camo and view range became less important.

Hellcat is solid TD still, not as totally OP as it was.

I currently have a wolverene and t67 for tier 5 fun TD's ( grinded up to T30 so far).

Biggest change from my point of view is the advent of post-war main battle tanks as mediums in the higher tiers, if you can cast your mind back to when the Maus was the only tier 10 just how powerful the Type 59 was, well about half of the tier 9 and 10 mediums are that powerful, and a lot of the heavies are pretty quick now. Also, you can buy 'gold ammo' with credits now so the armour of the heavies doesn't bounce shells from small tanks as much as they used to.

I have been playing WoWs for a few months now and fancy getting back into my WoT account but dissapointed to read about the TD nerfs, my favourite tanks tended to be TDs and initally Arty (which got absolutely shafted in nerfs). Are TDs still playable, from memory I got up to T7 or 8 in US TDs (T28?) Kept my Hellcat for the fun of it.

In fact, I've just got into my account so the best tanks I have-

AMX 12 t - French T6 light - good for fun and bezzing round with its 5 round magazine.
T20- - US T7 Medium - Loved my Sherman but was struggling with this
T29 - US T7 Heavy
T25/2 - US T7 TD
SU-14-1 - USSR T7 SPG (size and maneuverability of a school bus)

Only 1600 battles or so in total so relatively new, if I get back into it what lines/tanks should I look at for fun (I'm a filthy casual at heart!)?

I don't really play TDs so can't really comment on those, but if you just want to play for fun then I can recommend the tier 6 and 7 British medium tanks (Cromwell and Comet), they're fairly quick and have quick firing guns so if you want to drop in and have a laugh for an hour and not be too bothered about stats.
Getting to tier 6 isn't massive fun though, I *think* they're all light tanks so you have to spot rather than drive around going pew-pew-pew.

Just checked and I actually have a Cromwell B in my Garage! Looks like zoomy-shooty fun is back on!

AMX 12T is a bit pathetic unfortunately, it needs some love, as does the 13 75, both are bested by other auto loaders at the same tier and even some none auto loading scouts.
T20 is difficult to play due to the long aim time and its role is more 2nd line than 1st line, come across a comet and you are history, needs to either be played more passively or in a platoon to be effective.
T29, nothing to say about this, its a great heavy and probably the best hull down tank at its tier smile
T25/2, sucks, have one but its very outclassed at T7, its pathetic 170mm of pen and its not very accurate gun means its very reliant on premium ammo (very good 258mm but expensive with an average 240 damage per shot), again needs a fair bit of love but WG seem to have over looked it (again).

Not played the SU-14-1, gone the German route on the arty (and the FV304, a fun little devil of an arty despite its short range).

So which lines to go for?
What do you like playing?
The M26 is far better than the T20 when you get there, its fantastic 400m view range (base 100% commander) is better than most of the tanks in its tier and above, good gun depression, poor hull armour but the turret can be pretty bouncy and its not too bad across country.
Its downside is that you have the KR and the SP, both of which have better turret armour (and the SP just has better all round armour), its also expensive to run the M26, even with 190mm of pen you rely upon that premium ammo (a very good 268mm of pen) but it lacks damage and the cost... gun is ok but could use a slight accuracy buff (my crew are still fairly green with only 1 100% skill and on their 2nd skill now).

The German TD line is pretty good, once you have the Stug IIIG that is, the Jg PZ iv is a little lacking but it gets better after that with both T8's being decent.

If you like scouts then go either German or US, Chinese ones can lack penetration and Soviet ones lack gun depression (not saying that the LTTB or T54 ltwt are poor, they are not) but the German and US tanks feel more versatile.

Heavy lines, US has some really nice tanks, good gun depression but you will feel robbed after the T29 as the T32 gets the same gun with the same penetration (but a slightly better turret), the M103 is good but the turret isnt as good as the T29's and the E5 is just OP!

Soviet heavies are good, close range brawlers, the IS at t7 is fun but really anything outside of T7 and its outclassed due to its poor 175mm of penetration, the IS-3 is totally noob friendly with excellent armour and a fantastic turret (watch for the over penning of the turret above the gun, not good to face hug tanks taller than you), the T-10 is also great with good turret armour and decentish hull armour and its very mobile, plays like a heavy medium tank and then you have the IS-7, its a nice stable T10 heavy. The other line is more difficult with the KV-3, same gun as the IS but slightly better rate of fire, better frontal armour but slower, then you get the oddball KV-4, you don't get the 107mm gun on any other tank so you need to grind it out, dont use the D25DT gun on it, you will just get owned, then you have the ST-I, same gun as the T-10 and the next tank, the IS-4, ST-I has good turret armour and most people prefer it over the IS-4.

German line has the fabled Tiger 1 (H), its over hyped and has a play style that completely contradicts how it played IRL, in game its a sniper and not a front line tank, its still good though.
Tis is followed by the Tiger 2 or King Tiger, again a decent enough heavy, not the best, not the worst, better still is the T9 E75, a real beast of a tank with good frontal armour. This leads on to the E100, a good player will make this thing work well and its bouncy armour is excellent.

There is a 2nd line but I have not really played them, Tiger P, VK4502A, VK4502B (uber stonk tank) and the Maus.

Brit heavies are a bit meh, no one loves the churchill 1/7/BP grind, im trying to hold off on that lol.

I play on the xbox one.

Just had a game with the fcm40pax and got 12 kills!

Last tank alive at end of game.

Never got over 8 kills so a very happy (camper) sniper!

(Went from one end of map to other then back again to kill the tank in base to go back again to finish last tank in enemy base)

After that game, WOT strikes back.

Given up after not being able to hit anything 9/10, and watched as my IS bounced off the back of a comet!

Yep, I'm sure MM makes up its mind before the game starts. The number of times I've been behind arty and "bounced" or even better "didn't penetrate their armour" etc is maddening.

I've been having so much fun in my IS-7, I used to hate the thing, but now I've really got it working. The gun is still a bit underwhelming but it is fun to play. My win rate in the 113 is still way below average, which reflects it's pre-buff state. I do find I very rarely have to use premium ammo in either now, getting much better at positioning with them, particularly in the 113 which can flank quite well.

All that jazz

Has anyone got anything in the advent sale? I've been on a mission to collect all the M4 tanks in the game to give myself something to aim for, so when the Sherman Fury came up yesterday I got a few messages from my usual platoon buddies saying it was back on sale I went for it...

From what I can gather when it came out it followed the old philosophy of the premium tanks being slightly worse than the tech tree equivelents (the M4A3E8 Easy 8 in this case) but now it's had a buff and a couple of the stats are better than the E8.
Still, it's another one to the collection and a little Christmas present to myself, just need to find time to play the game again!

I always felt like the T20 was a letdown after the E8, but it wasn't, it just needed a different playstyle. It wasn't as strong tier for tier as the E8 though, which imo is the king of tier 6 mediums, or at least it was when I played through that line.

I really need to get my Object 704 grind done, still needing about 235,000xp on that. I really want to start on Jap heavies but feel like I shouldn't until the 704 is wrapped up. I may one day finally re-buy the E-75 and grind that up to an E-100.
