The new 1.5 update is out today, with the joys of free xp people have already spotted tier 8 Brit SPGs, which is a lot of free xp saved up, even to jump in from the Matilda and skip the first few tiers. Leopard 1s are already in play too, which is perhaps even more impressive given the line before today only went as far as the AwfulPanther, meaning some people have free xp'd through a tier 8 and 9 tank and landed in the 10. I can't wait to start mixing it up with those Leopards, I'm glad to see the Bundeswehr machines in the game. The Indien Panzer looks cool too, like a sort of micro-Löwe. I'm happy now that if I do ever want to play the Leopard, I don't need to play the AwfulPanther to get there, which I thought was going to be a necessity.

That said, I had been planning to go up the British SPG line, but I've decided to hold off. I'll be waiting on the Maus line instead, and eventually grinding for that. There are some French premiums coming soon though, which might get my opening the wallet.
When the German TD line was introduced on the PC, people were playing the WTF E100 that day. Bear in mind that you had to start at tier 3 with the Marder II, so it cost them a shed load of free XP. I think I worked it out once at around £80 worth.

I had a few games with the WTF E100 on the test server last night & I was surprised at just how bad it actually is. It's very situational. I had just one decent game where I did 5,600 damage and took out another WTF E100 from full health at point blank range. I tracked him, drove forward into cover and kept shooting his exposed front drive wheel. There was nothing he could do.

As I found with the tier 9, the top gun can't pen a high tier tank from the front without HEAT, so it's pretty useless. The stock gun is good, but has a crippling 50 second reload. Any medium or light tank driver that can count to 4 (for the short gun) or 5 (for the long gun) can take you out at their leisure if you team are too stupid to protect you. Which they mostly are of course.

So yeah, I really didn't like it and won't be getting one.

Anyway, patch 9.3 is out on the Russian servers today and should be out for us tomorrow apparently.

With regard to free xp, I've already shot at and wounded Leopard 1s this evening, not as expensive as the Waffle 100 jump but still a lot of free xp conversion.

I've seen some whopping games from Waffle 100s, I've seen them pull 10,000+ in matches, and I think Quickybaby has a replay of of some random guy scoring something ridiculous like 15,000 damage in a match on his channel. I'd like a go in the Borsig some day, but I'm not that bothered about going to tier 9 on that line. I'm really enjoying the JagdPanther II at the moment, but I'm still really looking forward to the Jadgtiger. I've got about 85,000xp left to grind on that, it's a long way but doable, especially as the JPII is so effective. I'm almost apprehensive about getting the Jagdtiger as I know it's a different gameplay style, the JT can't turn into a hunter in the late game, and it can't cross the map easily to lend a hand where it's needed. Still, needs must as I want my first tier 10, and as my favourite tank of all time I'm sure the Jadgtier will be fun for me. As soon as that Maus turns up though, I won't be grinding the JT beyond it's top package, I'll just let it accumulate xp slowly while I focus my time and effort on the Porsche line.

Patch 9.3 looms large. Can anyone think of any advantages to buying a pre-nerf KV1S beforehand, given that I'm unlikely to play it post nerf? I'm thinking extra crews or garage slots etc. The only Russian Heavy i'm likely to play in the future is the KV2, which I have researched and for which I have my old KV1S crew still in the barracks.
You won't get a free garage slot. If you already have the KV-1S, all they'll do is replace it with the KV-85.

Your KV-1S' stats and crew will be transferred to the new KV-85 (except the radio man, as it doesn't have one).

Any equipment will be sent to the depot, so you'd need to re-add them afterwards.

Be aware that the KV-2 has two loaders, unlike the KV-1S.
Ironically, once the patch goes live, the KV2 has better stats than the KV85 ironically, and still have the ability to 1 shot a KV 85 through it's lower plate.
One of the tanks I've kept.. I put my KV1S crew into it.. 4 skills with 6th sense, dead eye, clutch turning , signal boosting and safe store / adreneline rush on my crew, BIA as second skill and repairs full on 3rd.. working on recon and other skills in the 4th skill set hehe

It's gotten the reload down to 19.8 seconds without combat rations... toss that in and it drops to 18 seconds laugh Really surprises people when they think "I've got more than 20 seconds to hit them" and I back up, getting them to waste just enough time before they have another (usually final) 152mm HE shot in the face

My KV-1S crew is about 94% on their third skill.

I've played the KV-85 on the test server & it's not a bad tank. The gun depression is poor though and the 122mm gun is not the one to use any more. The KV-2 is a better troll tank.

The 'new' KV-1S with derp is the tier 5 troll tank to go for though.

Looking forward to that, I'm past the half way point on the Jadtiger grind, only something like 85,000 to go until I can unlock it. Since you've got your 120mm and I've got my 128mm, we should be able to lock down areas of the map quite effectively even in tier 10 games. There seems to be a bit of a pattern in that tier 8 TDs start off as a bit of a joke but once they're fully equipped, they can be devastators. As long as the armour holds up and you hit weakspots you can dish it out. I was hull-down against an E-100 the other day who was trying just about everything to put a round through my superstructure, but as I was facing uphill and he was shooting down the slope gave me a huge effective armour rating, every time he was ready for a shot I put one through his lower plate and he couldn't get any success in return.

Also, there are two French premiums out on the 26th I believe, one is a tier 3 TD, the other is a tier 8 heavy. While the heavy appeals, it will also be about £33 in gold, so I think I'll be going for the bargain basement TD, which is meant to cost 800 gold or about £4, to serve as a crew trainer for the imminent French invasion.

Nothing.

The new KV-1S is a sideways off shoot of the KV-1.

It had a redesigned turret and less armour, which makes it lighter and quicker, just like the real tank.

The "S" stands for "Skorostnoy", or "fast". teacher

Bah, 7 kill game in the Jagpanther II, nailed by arty right before I picked up my 8th. Still, I got a Devastator and Top Gun, and despite getting 1700+ base xp I didn't even get a mastery class 3 - I'm convinced the mastery badge system is buggy on the 360. I scored 5000 damage, took 7 enemies down and that wasn't even as good as half of the players who've used it in the last week, apparently. I was so close to that Radley-Walters too, fksticks.

Also, we now have optional operations, which I think it probably similar to what is on the PC. Previously we've had "missions" where completing certain objetives or reaching cumulative totals would net rewards, but now we have optional tasks, you can have any 3 from the list active at one time. Sadly, they seem to be very much focused around the current "On Track" event, so 3/5 of the missions can only be completed in certain American tanks, as out current OT event is for the T57. There is a mission for dealing 25,000 damage over any number of games, it can only be completed 5 times between now and 07 Oct 14, and I've already done it twice, despite it only going live yesterday. Still, it's a pretty cool system and I look forward to more varied operations in future.

I've also seen a Bert in combat now, they're tiny, it looks like a Noddy tank.

The mastery system is a bit weird on the PC too. It seems to like you doing a bit of every thing. Spotting, damage & kills (especially to higher tier tanks). You don't need to win the game though; I've had quite a few on losses.

Sometimes you think you've had an awesome game & you just get a second or 1st class mastery. Other times it seems like a fairly average game and you get an Ace Tanker.

I got both a Radley-Walters' AND a Pool's Medal with the tier 5 French TD (The Bathtub of Doom) and only ever got a 1st class. Most annoying. It's hardly a common vehicle or a known OP one either. mad

Yeah the mastery system is a bit of a oddity. It's driven on XP earned, so it's entirely based on the rules of that - doing damage if you aren't spotting the tanks yourself gets you less, as the spotter gets some of the xp. Killing tanks gets a little bonus, as does surviving the battle, and of course any spotting / assistance damage you do helps as well. Then it's down to a comparison of other people's xp scores in the week, and if you are unlucky the target for an Ace is high (or you could be lucky and it's low).

With the bathtub as it is so rare & if there are some bathtub 'padders' around then they could be raising the bar significantly.

I got Ace Tanker in the VK3001M (Panther prototype) without actually killing anything. A few days before that I got Top Gun, Confederate & Sniper medals in the same game and only got a 1st class.

Just had a excellent wolf pack game on Ruinberg. Nothing amazing happened, other than the very rare WOT occurence of a group of players all bonding and seeming to be able to play together as a team very well... Glad I wasn't on the opposite side though smash.

Its as good as example as i have seen in a long while, and a good demonstration of why Mediums rule at tier 10 when played well together.

Yes, it's nice then players work off each other like that. Pity it's so rare.

Your E50M complemented the Bat Chat platoon & FV well. They were able to use your armour to shelter behind when they needed. Nice couple of rams too. Poor little 40 ton mediums have no chance against a charging 67 ton E50M. headache Ooooof!

Do you have the controlled impact skill on your driver?

Yep, that +/- 15% damage boost was too tempting to avoid. It's a great stress remedy smashing into light tanks at high speed in it, particularly when you have been gimped by the matchmaker or lost too many modules to arty damage early on. The amount of times I've yolo'd just to get a big ttting into something is probably not so good, but funny as fk! 1k+ damage combos of shot and ram aren't that uncommon if you choose the right targets - batchats are good evil

The Tier 3 TD will be the FCM Pak 40. If you are thinking of getting this little monster then you should know that it is barely mobile. It may actually be the slowest thing in the game and I am including the TOG in that statement!

However, if you can handle being slower than a slug, then you are in for a treat. This thing has decent camo rating, packs a huge BFG by tier 3 standards and has an insane 400m base view range! This makes it an assassin at tier 3, lighting up half the enemy team before the game even gets properly under way. It is especially LOL on small maps like Provence. It is hilarious on Malinovka too if you get parked in a suitable bush. You can light up a lot of the base campers on the other side.

The bad news is if YOU get lit up, you are too slow to get out of trouble, and have no armour to save you...but....dat gun! It can even murder tier 5s shoot

Well, that was annoying.

Still, it wasn't all bad:

Especially as for "courageous resistance" there was an xp bonus, taking it to 2,010. For a loss....
