First game out in the FCM36Pak40, first impressions; slow, but not useless. Extreme view range, very quick aim time with GLD, good reload, easy to keep the gun singing, lining up targets and nailing them, lighting up half the field and outspotting scouts. 4 kills and Mastery Class 2 on my first outting with the tank, what fun.

The size and look of it sort of reminds me of an elephant with a gun attached, however I think that size and speed means it will come undone if the line breaks down and the enemy can get the back or sides. Still, it was cheap and while I don't play much at the lower tiers, this is a fun way to get training a French crew, and I prefer this to the T1E6-X that is my other low tier premium tank.

EDIT: Second match, mastery class 1. This thing is a nice little tank. The slowness is exaggerated by the fact everything else is so fast!

It was a German gun stuck on a captured French tank chassis. The Marder II can use the same gun actually. In fact it's the best gun to use on it as the top gun has been so badly nerfed, that it's unplayable.

Thanks for that. My KV 85 looks to be in HD so im guessing ive probably done it correctly.
The easiest way to tell is look at the wheels. If they look round, then they're HD. You also need to check you've set your texture quality to maximum in graphic settings.

When I look at the IS-7 in the depot now, the tracks seem to flap for a moment before settling down. The IS-7 doesn't have return rollers, so the tracks sag down onto the road wheels. It's a HD model as of this patch and I know they've changed the way the tracks behave. Also the folded down machine gun on the roof is staying that way I'm glad to say. Prior to patch 9.3 it stood up like a TV aerial, which kinda telegraphed your presence like the M3 Lee's redundant top turret.

The muffled gun sound in sniper view takes a bit of getting used to. More realistic though I suppose, as the noise mostly comes out the business end of the barrel.

Ha, they've also renamed the Syphilis Panzer the Sturer Emil now. rofl

Cannot say I like the KV85, the gun depression is terrible.
Put my old crew back into the KV1s as from what I have seen so far the S is still pretty good, so now we have the KV1 and S both in same tier and both good tanks.
Does not really make sense to me.

In my fourth match out in the FCM36PaK40 I got my ace tanker, pretty pleased with that. Other than that, what a fking disastrous night, platooned with George and unable to put a decent match in, you'd think the crew had been on the drink.

WOT rage strikes again, out in the FCM36Pak40 on Siegfried line, having already dished out some heavy damage and taken 3 kills, it was done to one enemy arty and a TD, with the greens having 2 arty, me in my TD and a light. I spot the hiding enemy TD, line up my shot (I'm not spotted), matey boy in the scout rushes in, block my shot, starts bouncing off the enemy TD and is spotted and nailed by arty, taking me out with the splash. Yeah, thanks you stupid prick. Know your fking tank!

Still, this little French machine is quickly becoming one of my favourite tanks.

Otherwise, I'm having a pretty good day, I got my Ace Tanker in the JPII, and I expect to have enough XP to upgrade to a Jagdtiger by midnight, with enough free XP to get my halfway to an engine and track upgrade. The rest of tomorrow will be spent getting my crew training level back to 100% in the Dicker Max before embarking on a gradual grind towards the JP E-100. Tbh, I'm not in that much of a rush to get the JP E-100,so I'll probably split my play time between my premium tanks (default playstyle when I'm not actively grinding, makes good money and builds crews faster) and the Jagdtiger. Depending on how long the French update is going to take to arrive, I may press the Jagdtiger harder to research the JP E-100, and maybe buy that. As my first tier 10 I'm sure it will be an expensive novelty, but I'm not sure how much fun it will be.

EDIT: Just had another great game in the JPII, 7 kills, Top Gun, Devastator, 4500 damage. I will miss this tank, it will stay in the garage but it won't have a crew, and it's equipment will be transferred to the Jagdtiger. The JPII can be an absolute monster at times, it's been great fun.

Well I don't think I'll be rushing to play solo on a weekend again, it was horrible, I think this game may actually be dangerous for any one at high risk of a heart attack!

I've given up playing. The MM has been trolling me very hard every time I've played over the past month. I come back to it every so often and platoon with my 6700 rating WoT veteran friend but despite 4+ kills each we're still losing games. These reworked maps are just utter garbage. It should be called World of Corridors, not Tanks. Most maps are useless for non-turret TDs and lights now.

Uh oh, new tank deflation, the Jagdtiger is a duck egg, the armour doesn't seem to be that good, it lacks tactical flexibility and is a chore to lug around the battlefield. Still, I've forgone my usual practice of training crews back to 100% between tank changes in order to take advantage of premium time this weekend, so maybe that is why this thing feels so bad at the moment. I'm fairly sure the MM and RNG conspire to troll players who aren't using 100% crews, in order to make them pay 1000 gold to transfer a crew with 100% training - fk that. As soon as my crew training hits 100% and camo, 6th sense, BIA, Repairs and partially trained clutch braking are reactivated, I'm sure this thing will turn around.

Anyone else ever feel the pain of not using 100% crews?

On the PC, the existing skills aren't effected by the training level of the crew. So they still have 6th sense etc.

I usually just pay silver to transfer them at 90%, as it doesn't take that long to get them back to 100%.

Ah I see. On the Xbox, we can transfer at 75% for 100,000 silver, or transfer at 100% for 1000 gold. While the crew training level is below 100%, all crew skills and perks are disabled and the crew only perform at 75% effectiveness, so view range is reduced, aim times longer, reload slower etc.

I must say, I am happy with my Jagdtiger even if it isn't fully effective in combat yet - what stock tank is? It's always been my favouite WWII vehicle, and it's good to finally have it in the garage. I was reading a while back about the operational history of the JT in WWII, about how they broke down often and the under-prepared crews caused them to suffer losses by, in separate instances, attempting to retreat and showing their rear to an American tank group, which penetrated and wiped them out, and in another instance refusing to fire on a US convoy for fear they might lose the engagement. Aside from that, the enormous weight destroyed the drivetrain while continuously traversing the hull to aim the gun. The whole exercise was a catalogue of mishaps and errors, but does make for amusing reading.

That's a bit steep. On the PC you can transfer them for free at 80%, 20K silver per crew man at 90% or 100% for 200 gold each.

Otto Carius's book "Tigers in the Mud" talks about the JT, as he commanded a company of them at the end of the war. He's still alive actually, at 92.

They've got a JT in the Tank Museum at Bovington, Dorset.

Yes, I'm particularly looking forward to seeing the Jagdtiger when I eventually make the trip down there. WG have a forumite/pseudo-employee called The Challenger who does the tank videos, I suppose it's him you're referring to, I've watched all those vids and they are really good.

I've just put the upgraded engine and tracks on my Jagtiger and it no longer feels like it has damaged tracks and a blown engine from the start of the battle. Once clutch braking is complete, which should be about the same time I unlock the tier 10 128mm gun, it should be a reasonable tank.

I'm sure this game trolls you in quite sophisticated ways.

Not played for ages which is normal. If you check out the VBRJ stats probably the one with the fewest games.

Anyway updated to 9.3 ran one random battle to make sure it works, Widepark which is usually a struggle in a TD.

Completely invincible, laser guided shells, pens every shot, surrounded by Star Trek style force field keeping enemy shots away. Mastery badge and some new badges not seen. One for more damage than my own hit points. Ran back and cleared off a capper with one shot. He of course missed.

Clearly designed to drag someone back into the fray.

I've always believed the outcome of games is largely predetermined.

Many of them are, that's for sure. It's nice when you can influence games though.

Talking of which: Yey, finally the Ace Tanker in the T29 ! woohoo

Good work, Ace Tankers can't be easy to come by in the T29!

I'm packing it in for the night, even though I've got a few hours of free premium time left. The RNG is giving me a sign. After earning something like 210,000xp in my JPII in the space of two weeks, the Jagdtiger has proved a massive let down. I'm sure it will pick up with the final upgrade package, if only because having a fully upgraded tank seems to give kinder RNG. It's been a real ballache to go from getting 3 top guns and an ace tanker in the JPII yesterday, to having a boaty, terribly obvious box tank to replace it. Only 50,000xp left to go for the proper gun.

I have had fun in my FCM36Pak40 though, I've just finished a match on Live Oaks with rain (come to think of it, I can't remember the last time I played this map without the rain effect), tier 5 game, 4 kills and 1327 damage dealt - which is not bad considering the HP of the tank is only 180. It was still a loss, of course, as the rest of the team were utterly hopeless. The worst thing about playing lower tiers of the sort of players you encounter at lower tiers! Still, it has provided a useful antidote to the Jagtiger, which has felt pathetically ineffective today.

I didn't play much today, after the past 2 days of having some pretty good games of wrecking everyone even when playing as arty (got 7 kills woop woop in one match) I just couldn't make it happen today. Played from tiers 5-8, medium, TDs and SPG. Had a couple of wins but not great games for myself, then I did well for a couple of games but the rest of the team fumbles. So what's new haha!
