Do not enjoy playing anything over 6 tier, I find it is so hard to make any impact if your tank happens to be 2 tiers down in high tier games.
Saying that my Matilda is having a right beating these last few weeks when it come to mm, happens so often I kill 6-7 and we still lose.
For me at the moment its the pz38t, cruiser 2 , matilda, kv1 and kv2.
Two exceptions to that - arty (more so pre-nerf, have to really work at it and pay attention now, plus get lucky) and scouts.

I've genuinely lost track of the number of scout games where I've been the top xp scorer by a huge margin.

I often spend a weekend just play T4 and below. Lots of fun to be had one the lower tiers.

My favourite tanks now range between tiers 7-10
From current garage

IS-2 - Can dish out the damage but I like the tactical challenge of having to flank / take careful aim when attaching higher tiers
110 - Is simply a beast, very effective armour and can facehug a lot of higher tiers, mobile and decent reload and gun as well.
WZ11111111111-4 - Again a bit of a beast and can dish out the damage - often 500 a shot with rolls of 650+ for HE shells against WTF tanks and mobile as well.
Conqueror - Best gun in game. I need say nothing more.
FV4202 - I really like this one, though it can be frustrating to play if the map doesn't allow you to take pot shots. Again great gun and very mobile.

The higher tiers can be frustrating but I enjoy the challenge of having to think slightly more carefully of how to tackle the opposition, avoid taking the big hits etc. Generally I find the better mobility / gun handling etc of the more "advanced" tanks more fun to play. Also im a bit of a stat we so like racking up the damage counter smile

I find the low tiers a great antidote to the high tier gameplay. High tiers can be slow, campy, and frustrating as the tanks lumber around the battlefield, and missing a shot is painful. I run my Panzerkampfwagen S35 739(f) at tier 3 for relief, it's slow for a tier 3, but still nippy enough, and has a rapid fire gun with the fastest aim time in the game. I roll around, spitting shells at everything that moves and it is glorious.

Massive update for the Xbox today, Pearl River and Karelia added, French lines (though whether it's a complete French tech tree or just 2 of the 4 lines I'm not sure yet), loads of graphical updates, interface modifications and bug fixes. They also have released the XP multipliers for the Premium tanks - the wording suggesting that Premium tanks, until this point, may have not actually been earning bonus crew XP - I suspected this as my FCM36 crew have been progressing at 80,000xp/skill which is the going rate, whereas my Churchill III seems to level crews in no time, so I think the system has been wonky. Still, it's very, very rare for WG to release actual figures about the game, here are the XP multipliers, which may or may not relate to the PC version at all.

Tier II: 1.7 (61.9% increase)
Tier III: 1.6 (52.4% increase)
Tier IV: 1.5 (42.9% increase)
Tier V: 1.4 (33.3% increase)
Tier VI: 1.3 (28.3% increase)
Tier VII: 1.2 (14.3% increase)
Tier VIII: 1.1 (4.8% increase)
Tier X: 1.05 (5% increase)

So it looks like my plan of using my Micro Maus and S35 noob stompers will be even more lucrative now, as my Maus crew grind through the skills.

Speaking of stty players, I had a match in my IS last night on Mines, I'd wrecked a load of tanks before going down fighting, the last tank being a Tiger that I left with about 100hp. The match was now down to a Tiger with 100hp, and a full health T29. I was elated, I'd done enough damage to allow our T29 to roll in and secure victory. But alas, it was not to be, or so it seemed at least, as our T29 floundered around the battlefield, getting chippped down by the Tiger. Every shot the T29 took bounced or missed, at which point our team were screaming down the mics for him to load HE, so all he had to do was land a hit, any fking hit, and we'd almost certainly win the battle. In this time, I looked up his stats - Mr T29 was a 45.4% winrate, 0.4 ratio, 0.4 damage done/received etc. I was gutted, this scrub would never win, even with the odds stacked so heavily in his favour. However, luck was on our side as he finally penned and killed the Tiger - something that should not be a challenge with the top gun of a T29 vs the papier mache armour of a Tiger. There was a huge collective sigh of a relief as that one came off. I did quite well, I ended up with about 2200xp with the premium bonus applied.

No arty, which is what I really wanted to play. As tasty as these French TDs are, I'm not going to be distracted, I want to climb the IS line. Only 30,000xp to go on the IS to get the IS-3 I've wanted for so long. I'm aiming to have that unlocked my the end of my session on Friday night, and hope to have the BL-9 package unlocked within an hour of starting play on Saturday.

I have just scooped and ace tanker in the FT AC - that thing is a bit of a beast at tier 2! I've heard the Sau 40 being described as "The new M3 Lee", hardly flattering. hehe I'm going to continue to develop my French crew for the future arty line, though I'd like to try the tier 5 light with the 90mm at some point.

In keeping with the Halloween season theme, we've got a Halloween garage with glowing pumpkins, ghosts flying about and skeletons and st. It's good fun. I can't wait to sink a few 122mm shells into the OpFor this weekend, particularly those nice soft French targets. Until they rip me to bits with autoloaders at least!

I keep hearing everyone telling me to go and see Fury too, I think I probably should tbh. I kind of owe it to myself - I'm getting to be a tank nerd these days (I was explaining how HESH ammo works today to a non-tank friend, oh dear) so I will probably love it.

I don't count arty as I don't play it any more. The only one I have is the premium French one, which is no longer available as it's so OP.

The FT AC is very deadly.

I bought the SAu 40 back the other day as well. It's more of a big Hetzer than an M3 Lee.

I'm not an arty player by any stretch, I think my arty games make up about 7% of all of my games played. I just fancied a pressure free change of pace with some French SPGs. I think the M3 Lee comment was more about the SAu being a load of st, rather than any actual gameplay similarities!

The only premium arty in the game now is the Sexton III, I'm not tempted personally.

Quick calculation - About 17% of my games have been arty. However, I haven't played regularly for couple of years & I can't really bring myself to do so again.

Back then there was only Russian, US and French arty anyway and they only went up to tier 7 or 8.

Classic WoT, get given 24 hours premium for free and 4/5 games I'm bottom tier. Fantastic! Also with new French update it's bloody hard to get my 'Fury' op completed, there's hardly anything German in the games today!

Fury is a good movie and I do recommend it. Ok there were one or two bits that had me going..."hmmm nope". But then this is Holywood and not the History Channel so I gave them a mulligan and just went with it. Other than that, it was thoroughly enjoyable.

They used my Tiger...ahem, I mean Bovingtons Tiger tank No 131 and also one of Bovingtons operational Shermans in the movie so you have the treat of seeing actual WW2 tanks going at it. Apparently they also used World of Tanks as inspiration for some of the combat in the Tiger v Shermans battle and you can clearly see that in the movie.

Oh and that encounter I am convinced is in the Malinovka map! Check it out when you see it and you will see how similar it is.

In other news, I am spending most of my time currently in Tiers 8 and 9 as I am grinding the Centurion Mk1, the E50 and the Tortoise. About 80k now needed on each. When it gets a bit much for me my goto tanks of the moment are the Tier 6 KV85 and the T150.

The KV85 especially just wrecks face with its 250 alpha 100mm firing every 6 secs. Ok it has no gun depression but just position yourself where gun depression isnt needed, towns and such, and you are golden.

Awesome gun on the TOG, good pen, fast loading, accurate. It's best played as a sniper not lumbering onto enemy lines, I often get 4 kills a game in mine,

The good:
  • Amazing gun, high pen, high ROF, good accuracy
  • Tall, so can peek over cover well
  • Big ammo capacity
  • Super cheap ammo and repair costs, high silver earning multiplier
  • Often arrives at the clean up phase of a battle, using the high ROF gun to shred damaged enemies in quick succession
  • Can mount a super-heavy spall liner, making it amazingly resistant to arty and HE.
  • Extremely strong in platoons, can provide cover for friendlies to peek a boom from
Cons:

  • Big, slow, thin armour
  • Can't flex to where it's needed
  • Uses its health pool instead of armour, can be hard to improve your damage done/received stat, if you're bothered about that

All that jazz

TOG is a terrible tank. It has absolutely no armour worth mentioning for a start. People only say it's awesome because it has about 1,000,000 HP and think that makes it invincible. I dusted off my SU-100Y and have killed loads of them this morning. Easy to ammo rack them or set them on fire. When the gun on the SU does about 450 damage per standard shell it makes light work of them.

Anyone know any good spots for TDs to hide on Sacred Valley when starting from the non-bridge end? I'm really having a hard time with that map and don't like it at all. I don't like the rework of the magic forest either, far too open now and nowhere for non-turret TDs to sit in cover.

Yes...I really enjoy playing my AMX 13 90 as a scout in higher tier games. There are certain spots on three or four maps where you literally have to park behind a bush and do absolutely f all for the first three or four minutes whilst spotting the oppo. Then work out where the enemy is thin and make a rush for their arty or circle behind the heavies.

The amount of people you see play as scout and rush the oppo before their arty has even had a chance to load the first round is ridiculous.

I took advantage of the recent promotion of the E100 which I have probably been able to buy for a year or more and never have. I know a lot of people hate it but I have found I have been relatively successful with it...make sure you dont expose the front of the hull by reversing at an angle from behind buildings and it's a phenominal opponent....have to say I had never realised how sodding long the load time is which helps when I now come up against it.

Sacred Valley is terrible for TDs and a poor map in general these days. If you go up the hill you can't support your team in the corridor. You can whack tanks trying to flank, but they're all long shots and by then it's too late and you're just damage farming.

On Murovanka, the farm houses near the north spawn by the magic forest are still there. There's a group of bushes just to the left of them that you can hide behind in a TD without being seen.

That many people never work together on WoT. hehe
