Psygnosis, the hardest games.
Shadow of the Beast."ooooo look at that parallax scrolling......................WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED THERE!"
Not quite as bad as Dragon's Lair and Space Ace.
"Wait......wait........wait.........[pushes joystick to right]................dead again"
This is what my playthrough attempts consisted of - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l464ZF5jK3Y and repeat.
I think the game I where most often suffered from "just one more game" until the sun came up was Lemmings.
I loved F18 interceptor, and have to give a mention to StarGlider and then lots of the other Raindbird games including Carrier Command. Speedball was great.
But then I was employed to play Amiga games.

I recently lost some time to K240. Works perfectly on WinUAE emulator.
It's the sound effects in these old games that really take me back.

I had never heard of it either to be honest.
The later PC version; Fragile Allegiance is a lot better, but it's nice to play the original once in a while. It's the only Amiga game I still play occasionally.
dont forget chaps 'Archon' and 'Archon2'...chess with a twist

Fantastic thread. Takes you back to a time when life was much simpler, no mortgage, kids, direct debits, supercars were rare and exciting to spot, less talentless celebs and proper music.
It makes you realise how overly complex games are now - then all games were simpler and what you accessed straight away is what you got and it simply got harder. Now you need 40 million button pressing combos, you never know if you've accessed all the good stuff in a game and you can buy to win. I miss the days when the graphics were all on one screen, simple yet addictive gameplay and you understood straight away what was needed and those good at the game were simply better - not that they modded the game and paid to download advanced content.
My top list:
Syndicate
Lemmings
Championship Manager
Test Drive
Settlers
Indy 500
Sensible Soccer
Kick Off 2
Cannon Fodder
Speedball 2 (ice cream!)
Lotus
It Came From The Desert
North & South
Stunt Car Racer
Sim City
Flashback
Populous
IK +
Jimmy Whites Snooker
Fiendish Freddy
Defender of the Crown

Just remembered the Gremlin / Magnetic Fields intro with Wagner in stunning mono sound.
