An interesting list but WAY too much final fantasy, MGS and Zelda games for my liking.

Most 'top #' type lists for games run by gaming magazines (Edge or Gamer etc) use 1 title from a series as its winner, i.e. Occarina of Time of MGS 2 etc, so more stuff gets in.

the fact there was no C&C games AT ALL!, no Tie Fighter, No racing games (Gran Turismo or Forza surely?), Only 1 MMO, Eve online has been on the News...twice!

PC Gamer did one of the best top 100 lists a few years ago and I think Half Life 2 won, but it was very varied.

To be fair, Zelda could occupy all 10 slots as far as I'm concerned.

No Gran Turismo 2? No C&C Red Alert? No Total Annihilation? Nor Crusader Kings 2? No Street of Rage 2?

Rubbish list.

I'm surprised Bioshock Infinite is on above the original Bioshock (which I'm replaying now for the 5th or 6th time - amazing game!)

Also what did COD4 do that was so amazing?

The list suffers the same problem that imdb does. The old games people have forgotten but people play something great and give it a 10. Just check out the top 100 films on imdb, way to many mediocre films and far to many in the top 100. Inception the 13th best film ever made... Yeah right.
Actually, Inception is a masterpiece. It should have been in the top 10.

It always annoys me that Citizen Kane is alway near the very top of these lists. It's almost like there is a fear that you'll be excommunicated as a critic if you don't list it in the top ten....I feel that things have moved on significantly in 70 years.

People still harp on about it as a game changer, and it was. It probably looked especially good coming off the back of COD3, which was a pretty poor effort (unusual for Treyarch, who usually make better games than IW). COD4 introduced the modern era in the series, and the template for future multiplayer. The MP was incredible in that game at the time and subsequent MW games have only spoiled the mix (with MW2 being particularly poor).

Not sure about The Last Of Us as game #1. It's worthy of being in the top 100 but nowhere near the top ten games. I'd have probably put FFVII in the top spot, not only because it was simply incredible but when you consider what the gaming landscape looked like at the time, it was an incredibly ambitious project that was executed near flawlessly. I lament the passing of the JRPG on a large scale because they were utterly fantastic creations when done right.

But yeah, a bit of a strange list but then these sorts of lists always miss out a few classics. No Tenchu 2? No Max Payne 3? No Dishonored? No Icewind Dale? No Future Cop: LAPD? Etc etc...

The more I think about it the worse it gets!

No:

- Quake
- Sim City
- Command & Conquer
- Dune
- The Settlers
- Company of Heroes
- Minecraft
- Little Big Planet
- Worms
- Lemmings
- Perfect Dark
^This^ Seriously? No Red Alert or any C&C Game? Also would have thought Black Ops II would have made it in?

Was Total Annihilation in that list?

Goes to have another look....

Um, No Total Annihilation, Tekken, Command and Conquer, Gran Turismo (really?) or Wipeout?

Wasn't Wipeout HUGE? and who was the guy who hadn't heard of Gran Turismo?

Think I'll sit in the corner, clutching my knees and just rock back and forth....

Wipeout - good call, pretty much the game that took gaming from the geeks bedroom to the living room and made it trendy. I remember reading about it being played in nightclubs.

And here's another Wii Sports - games anyone could play, more social than anything before it for casual players.

And speaking of casual - Angry Birds, not a fan myself but again made gaming and acceptable pass time.

Operation Flashpoint Now that was a game. Incredibly hard but the level of detail was just incredible.

I loved FFVII but I was also playing Terranigma at the time which I thought was a much better 'game'.

I wish we saw more JRPGs.

I forgot Street Fighter in my list earlier.

Probably the game series that has eaten the most hours from me.

Also forgot Super Tennis, pure genius that game.

Pulstar or R-Type III for best shoot 'em up as well, Pulstar probably edges it, played that for hours upon hours and never got bored of it.
