I don't like to put a downer on people's past times, but I feel bitterly disappointed by the DLC.

The lack of new content and adding to the story are two flaws and arguably the value proposition is a third, but for me by far the most disappointing aspect is that Bungie have broken the progression ladder.

Most players who reached level 30 before the DLC would have spent dozens of hours grinding away to get their gear and it felt like a real achievement once you reached that level.

Now with the DLC - the vast majority of the gear (all VoG Raid gear) the level 30s have spent all that time obtaining and levelling goes straight in the bin - it gives them no advantage from yesterday onwards and is actually a disadvantage compared to freely available vendor gear.

For the minority of old gear that can be useful from now on (exotics), we have to reset our progress - literally throw away all the grinding we did to max it out.

Even worse, the DLC has short-cut the route to level 30+ for everyone; I reckon I could start a fresh character today and have it at level 30 by Friday and level 32 by the following weekend, if the RNG were kind.

That's why I (and many others) feel really let down by the game - we've pumped a lot of hours into the game, having fun of course, but also hoping that the pay off would last longer than a few weeks. frown

I'm just not prepared to do that again with the DLC Raid Gear (the next DLC is out in March), so I bought a copy of Alien: Isolation today and will play that until Xmas and either Far Cry 4 or GTA V thereafter.

Hopefully Bungie will get their act together by the second DLC in March and I can pick up my old characters then and plough on, but I'm not particularly hopeful. The DLC pretty much proves to me that lack of content and grinding aren't flaws in the game that will be fixed - they're Bungie's business model for the game. frown

Youngsyr, I think you're right. It is a shame that they have misjudged the transition of the old progression model to the new one, they needed to make the top tier VoG raid gear still useful to those who ran the raid multiple times to get it.

Personally., I'm not too fussed as I enjoy the gameplay and banter enough to just crack on with it.

It is a shame that people such as yourself feel compelled to leave. My first foray into the Vault of Glass would have been far more daunting without your patience, explanations and guidance and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone so, cheers for all the help.

Hope you enjoy whatever game you choose to play instead.

Bungie aren't the first and they won't be the last to adopt this model, I remeber when I played vanilla world of warcraft on release, my character had some of the best gear on the server with purple level 60 stuff, then the expansion came out and new level 61 greens made all my old gear I spent months earning was rendered useless overnight. There is no point crying about it, its how these sort of games work, only instead of a monthly subscription you now pay for an expansion now and then, the costs work out the same and for the hours people put into it its still great value imo.

I understand that with WoW, the expansions that rendered old gear redundant came out once a year or so?

Clearly there will be times in a game's evolution when old gear becomes redundant, but it's only been 3 months since Destiny was released and it's 3 months until the second DLC release date.

That kind of turnover of gear means you essentially spend your entire time grinding to level gear, which I wouldn't have a problem with - if there was sufficient content to make the grind fun and I think we all know that with Destiny, there simply isn't.

I'm finding it difficult to say this without sounding bhy,
I can't see the point in the £20 dlc. This should have been in the game from the beginning. It 'unlocks' higher spec gear that allows you to take on higher spec bosses. Yet gameplay remains the same? I was never 'into' destiny to begin with but I enjoyed doing a few missions and shooting up some aliens. It's a grind fest if you want to achieve something. So in the words of Duncan bannatine 'im oout'

Agree with everything that's been said. I bought it this morning expecting there to be a download and installation, instead the game just started, and voila!, new content. This proves that the content was already there but hidden away to be activated upon payment. Considering the lack of content and variety from the start, it's a bit of a liberty.

Out of principle, I wasn't going to buy it, but it's only £20 and I'm still enjoying it.

There is a multitude of different elements bungie could bring to the game. However, all the time it remains a basic shooter, I won't be paying anymore for it.

It's not really been that much of a grind for me, as I didn't feel compelled to max everything out. I didn't farm if I couldn't be bothered, which meant that my gear wasn't as good as it could be, but I don't care. There's always someone to come and revive me! For the completionists, I can see how starting anew isn't appealing. I'm just gonna shoot things until I get bored.

Personally it's been server connectivity issues that have spoiled it for me. I thought when i set up a DMZ a while back my problems had been solved, but i still get issues far too frequently. We'll be changing internet providers in January so I'll be interested to see if it improves after that.

I like the PvE side of things, albeit that the content is limited. I've finally got up to Crucible Level 3 and whilst it's good, it could have been great if a couple of things were changed. Firsly fusion rifles are way too OP, secondly the super abilities or whatever they're called (i.e. Fist of Havoc, Golden Gun, Arc Blade) are way too common. Getting killed 5 times in a row in a completely lopsided fight isn't fun. They're good to have in the game, but they should be harder to earn and thus the exception, not the rule.

In other news, i have a problem with my Turtle Beach PX4 headset. I plugged it into my mobile phone using the wire that connects it to the PS4 controller to see what the sound quality was like compared to my in-ear headphones (poor was the answer). When i switched the PS4 back on and turned the headphones on, I got a message about 'needing to reconnect the USB Device' or something along those lines. After a lot of googling and going through all the instruction manuals for installing the headphones I still couldn't get them to work. I entered the exact message that was flashing up on the PS4 into Google and got no advice.

The only thing left to do would be to unplug everything and try to start again completely from scratch, but that would be a major faff and i don't know if it would work. I almost get the impression that one of the updates to the PS4 software might have changed how things work as i wasn't seeing the boxes on screen as per the original instructions. Oh and i don't think it's an issue of paring the headphones back to the box as the green light on the box says they're paired.

Has anyone got any ideas of a solution confused

Cheers Speckle. smile The team play and chat in the Vault of Glass was one of the best parts of the game for me, which makes it even more baffling that Bungie have now made the VoG a waste of time.

I'm hoping Bungie will sort the mess out and I can come back "full time" at some point as Destiny shows a huge amount of promise. In the meantime I'm sure I'll be on from time to time to help my brother finish off the core game, so I'm sure I'll see a few of you around. smile

I've just read that the new Raid (Crota's End) was beaten yesterday by 7 characters. Took them 6 hours and even Bungie tweeted the Clan that did it to ask for their comments smile

I also heard that the hard version of Crota's End isn't going to be released until some time in January?

That's from a blank canvass, i.e. they had to work out how to beat every phase too. wink

From memory, VoG took 17 hours to be beaten. I suspect the relative levels of players has an impact on the time to work it all out and beat it, but 6 hours with no clue how to do it doesn't bode well for how long it will take once people work out what they should be doing.

Anyone know how many phases Crota's End has?

Yep, took many hours for a team to beat VoG initially but then some experienced team got it down to 40 mins or something once they knew what they are doing (vid on YouTube if you are interested). On that basis Crota's End should be beatable in about 15 mins smile

No idea on how many phases it has though

Do you mean solo?! If so, I am mightily impressed. We managed it as a 3 without wiping but, all of us felt it was properly challenging (which made a nice change actually!)
No, as a 3. Wiped once mainly due to a stupid mistake right at the end.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

If they left the current model in but added another tier only noticeable with the DLC I could relate. But essentially they've modelled the entire game around working up to and needing the DLC. I'm not being forced to purchase DLC to enjoy all aspects of a game, this isn't Candy Crush.

That's what I was expecting, if they added the new strikes, missions and raid, made the Raid minimum level 30 to enter and dropped level 32 weapons and armour only in the Raid/Nightfall/Xur I would in all likelihood have bought the season pass yesterday (although I would still have grumbled about the lack of content!).

That would have made grinding to level 30 and obtaining all those weapons and armour worthwhile - as they would have been necessary for and the best for use in the new raid.

As it is, I now have to reset 3 players that I spent literally months levelling up and start from the same place that people who bought the game last week will be at.

By the sounds of it Bungie haven't really thought this DLC through, if you have got to 28+ and then need to reset to compete. I thought the point of a DLC was to add extra content that the game makers were working on but didn't have time to add in before launch date. That way the 'old' items kept their stats and the 'new' items' may have been better, but maybe harder to get....or is this the new way of gaming?

Yes it's only £20 but paying to activate content that should have been in an already content light game is a p*ss take tbh. I'm not going to moan as I've already played the core game for hours so have got my moneys worth but I can't see anything new in the DLC to draw me in, it just looks like more of the same and I'm already bored. I really expected more from the makers of Halo. The shooting and playing with you chaps is great but it really doesn't have enough meat to it.

I may be on for the odd bout of Crucible as I find it strangely enjoyable but apart from that I doubt Destiny will get fired up much, I'm looking for the next game. The free DC fighting game is already taking up way more of my time than this.

Which one is that?

I'm on the look out for my next timewasting pit game and Alien:Isolation doesn't look like it's going to be it!
