Agreed, it's not a particularly great multiplayer experience for a AAA game, but it's enjoyable - once you get the hang of it.
More than happy to show you the ropes Speckle if you like, we could concentrate on 3 v 3 games so with the two of us working together we should have a bit of an advantage. Will probably take something like 10 hours of playing to get to rank 3.
Very different to PvE though - you can actually do very well by being stealthy and patient. You'll need to learn to love shotguns and fusion rifles too!
I have lots of PVE stuff to get done this evening but, I may very well take you up on that offer if you're around tomorrow afternoon? I'm sure we will be able to find a 3rd to make up a full team too if that will help. Fusion rifles I can manage, I have plan C (version 1.0) which I like. Hardly ever use shotguns but, I have plenty of them to choose from.More than happy to show you the ropes Speckle if you like, we could concentrate on 3 v 3 games so with the two of us working together we should have a bit of an advantage. What's the worst that can happen - if I'm still not having any fun after an hour or two, then I will know that it isn't for me.
Will I get away with rocking a hand cannon in the crucible?

I tend to sit back slightly and nail people from range with Suros Regime.
Yep. Auto rifle with fusion/shotgun is a pretty solid load out. I'd be up for jumping in, only really played control though due to it having the most amount of players. I've only played 1 of the new maps.
Besides, any noob can luck into an Icebreaker or Gjallarhorn. All the cool kids have got Thorn and Invective
Youngs, you've got 3 different character types. How would you rate their effectiveness in PvP? From the outside I'd say Hunters 1st, Titans 2nd, Warlocks 3rd. I know Speck's got a Hunter.

I've used my Suros religiously along with a fast charging fusion and a heavy machine gun. I've recently tailored that slightly to Shadow Price (for the radar) and Truth (for the heat seeking).
I have been using my original load out and swapping to load 2 when heavy ammo comes available. Not decided what's best yet as I've not played much since the last IB.

I'm happy to run with any primary but, Hand Cannons are what I enjoy the most in PvE - not sure how that translates to PvP though. I have TDYK, Last Word and Fatebringer to choose from. Not sure what I've got in the way of auto rifles, I'd need to check.
As for which character, I have either Warlock or Hunter but, I am far more comfortable with my Hunter.
Oh yeah, my Hunter has the exotic helm that gives me active radar with any primary weapon too

TLW for it's auto capability would be a good start, best to experiment and see what suits.
Try the Thorn bounty if you've got it. Warlock (void), obsidian mind and void load out should see you make a good dent in it in reasonable time. Took me 3-4 hours with no void primary or armour perks.

I was thinking that but, that means I can't run Plan C - some experimentation will be required.lovechild said:

Haven't got it at the moment but, that is what I was thinking when it pops up again (plus, I have atheon's epilogue)As long as we run as a team of 3 and have fun, I may actually get through this!!
Titans rock in Crucible - their shoulder charge is unstoppable as is fist of havoc - great for getting up close and personal.
Hunters supers are pretty incredible, but are pretty average otherwise.
Warlocks are a bit in between, their melee has good range and the nova bomb is great for taking out groups.

Been a solid couple of days. Paid Xur a visit, got the upgraded Achylophage for my Hunter, Obsidian Mind for my Warlock and bagged Ice Breaker whilst I was there, the warlock Helm and the sniper being two of my most wanted items, then proceeded to get invited into a Nightfall and got Hawkmoon for beating it.
Was pretty happy with that.
Having levelled it up though, I don't think it's as good as Thorn. It's a beautiful looking weapon, but the fire rate is notably slower and though the extra damage from random bullets is pretty good, it's not as reliable as Thorn's tick damage.

Good old RNGesus is back on form, this is the closing screen from my first run through the Nightfall this week:
Oh yes, back with a vengeance! Led the way on my final (of 3) runs through the Nightfall again yesterday, including reviving the two randoms' asses when they decided to take on Septik without cover, and was awarded with 11 ascendant energies for my efforts - I already have 113 of them sitting unused in my vault! So, this week, for 3 Nightfalls I have received:
11 Ascendant energies (useless to me)
9 Ascendant shards (useless to me)
1 legendary scout rifle (useless to me)
Not so bad for me, as it's only one week, but imagine you only had one character and the above 3 Nightfalls were split over 3 weeks - pretty frustrating.
They really need to take the ascendant materials out of the Nightfall table now that ascendant materials only get you to level 31, or replace them with radiant materials.
Same for public events - ascendant materials are now almost redundant and for those who need them, it's a good excuse to push them into the Vault of Glass (which to me is still the best part of the game).
By the way, if anyone hasn't opened the exotic chest after the Templar in the Vault of Glass, I have the checkpoint and would like to run it with my two alternate characters.
Will only take 5 minutes and you don't even need to kill anything to get it for a (slim) chance of an exotic item, but you must be level 27+ to be able to access the mission.
I should be running it tonight, so feel free to drop me a line if you see me online.

I'd be up for that having just made level 27, what sort of time are you thinking and I'll make sure I'm on. Any slim chance to bag something exotic and I'm in!Will only take 5 minutes and you don't even need to kill anything to get it for a (slim) chance of an exotic item, but you must be level 27+ to be able to access the mission.

I've not actually run VoG yet due to being under levelled but I think I'm now at a point where I could do so (on normal, not hard) but feel that I need to collect the right sort of weapon load out. Ignoring legendary / exotic weapons (although now pround owner of Icebreaker) what would you experienced VoG-ists recommend to take in there to stand a half decent chance of getting through (if supported by an experienced crew i.e. a noob having a first punt at it)

I'd be up for that sir, if I'm on at a decent time tonight! I also have a checkpoint for the last third of the Crota raid - I couldn't tell you exactly how far that is as I've never run the whole thing, I had to bail during a run last weekWill only take 5 minutes and you don't even need to kill anything to get it for a (slim) chance of an exotic item, but you must be level 27+ to be able to access the mission.

Highest rated weapons that you feel comfortable with, preferably with void damage (special and heavy weapons). There isn't any point in running with something that doesn't suit your play-style for a few % extra hit points. You'll just become a liability for the rest of the team (much like me with a shotgun outside of PvP ).As for weapons, I know some of you don't rate the vendor weapons but the following 3 are very worthy of a purchase:-
Badger CCL (Vanguard Scout Rifle)- Has decent perks but the main benefit is that it is very hard-hitting. I'll be picking one up ASAP.
Saterienne Rapier (Crucible Scout Rifle)- As close to a fatebringer as you're going to get (in terms of perks) but with the potential for 331 damage. I'm saving for one like crazy.
LDR 5001 (Vanguard Sniper Rifle)- I've bought this and it is immense! Whilst I have an IB, I'll use this when I want to use the Gjallahorn and the Black Hammer isn't suitable. The main benefit is the armour piercing rounds. Take a look at some youtube videos of people using this in the Crucible. Anybody hiding behind any sort of wall has had it- rounds go straight through. It is also very stable. I'm leveling it up slowly.

+1. Got mine maxed and use it in VoG. There doesn't seem to be many good sniping maps in crucible so I've not tried sniping that much.Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
