You need to be level 2 in the Vanguard faction to buy the armour and level 3 to buy the guns, check your level by speaking to your class-specific vanguard handler. You'll also need about 60 vanguard points to get leg, arm or chest armour and 120 or so to get a helmet. You earn faction points by doing the bounties, public events and the daily missions. But you'll need to make sure you're not wearing a class item from one of the other factions (future war cult etc.) otherwise those points won't go towards your vanguard rank and will go towards that faction instead.
So, lots more work still to do then!! Presumably, if I'm interested in the faction legendary armour/weapons then it makes sense to join a faction and carry on doing the bounties.

Yes, although if you're not a fan of PvP, be aware that the factions do require that you split your time between the Crucible and PvE.

How do you guys learn all this? I log on everyday pretty much and new stuff appears and no idea how to best utilise it all.

Same. This game seems to get properly complicated once you hit max level and I'm not sure I can me arsed to devote the time or effort into going further.

That's the feeling I've been getting. Up to level 12 now and will continue until it becomes a grind I think.

There's simply no fun in having to grind out a game for minimal upgrades.

I was thinking the same thing so had a couple of days off. I picked it up again this afternoon and i was liking it again, it also seems the crucible isn't as bad once you pass level 20.

Everyone on my list was already in a fireteam last night so, tried some of my heroic bounty missions solo. It has reached the point where they are just getting too hard (for me at least) to do alone. Might be because I'm in the early stages of building my sub-class I suppose.

To be honest, I'm beginning to find it all a bit repetitive now. I'm sick of doing the same strikes and missions over and over albeit on a harder difficulty, on the off chance I might (but probably won't) get something legendary. I've seen the levels already, I've seen the bosses - it really isn't as impressive on the 20th attempt! I enjoy the co-op play but I can't see myself doing much in the way of grinding for 'light'.

The story missions were fun the first time and I'm enjoying going through the same process with my Warlock but, the post level 20 endgame just seems too complicated and require too much time investment for a casual gamer like me.

I'll be away this weekend so, will have a few days off - maybe I'll come back refreshed and start enjoying it more.

Pretty much exactly where I'm at. Supposed to be some new content dropping shortly (rumoured to be mercury)

Ditto - level 21 now by upgrading a bit of blue rare gear, but really can't see the appeal of repeating things over and over on the slim chance of getting something better (and I haven't even finished all of the Mars story missions yet as they all follow the same, quite tedious for me, format) although I've not done any in co-op, perhaps that changes things?

You need some daft amount of vanguard points to buy just one piece of legendary gear (150 I think and I've got just 17 and am still level 1 vanguard rep so can't buy them anyhow) so that's not going to happen. I've been picking up other items in my inventory but I've no idea what to do with them either but I bet I don't have enough of them in any case

So I'm stuck with either grinding to either a) get something good purely by chance or b) collect enough of something to be able to buy some decent gear - without it you can't really do any of the other higher level things that it is now all geared around (no pun intended smile )

I think it's quite telling when you see some level 25+ characters all running around Earth blasting some level 2 monsters. Why? Grinding and farming - not really my bag

I personally won't be forking out for any DLC to this I'm afraid

Wouldn't it be quicker doing bounties.

Co-op is alot more fun - probably because it makes it easier and if you die, you don't have to restart the level because you have fireteam members who can revive you!

As for the rest of it, I agree. There is only so many times I am prepared to 'Do 6 patrol missions in the Cosmodrome.'

Bounties don't really give you much once you hit level 20 - the experience points still build but then give you a "Mote of Light" (which can be used as currency I think, somewhere) when you "level up" again. Yes, they do also give you vanguard rep but that really does accumulate very slowly

Having said that, I do always have bounties going when I can

Have to agree with some of what's been said. I was having an absolute ball but now that I've completed all the story missions\strikes etc and am at level 21, interest is definitely waning. At least the Crucible is keeping me occupied for now but it's not that deep so I suspect interest in that will also not be long lived.

Never really understood the "grind" mentality in MMO games. I can understand trying to make the higher level content tough to get to but why not do something to mix it up a bit? Do all MMO creators sit around and think, "What this game really needs is some late game grinding\farming to really give it that authentic MMO feel".

I can maybe see why they do it, it's in effect a holding pattern which buys them time to produce\release more content but does it really have to be that way? The first person who makes an MMO that removes the grind or at least makes it more interesting will be onto a winner I think.

Same here on the overall feel for the game.

I have got into the habit of switching my fireteam to 'open' every time I switch on but it hasn't made much difference as to whether anyone joins.

I am level 21 and if any of you fancy doing some strikes etc at that kind of level over the weekend ping a friend request to my Psn ID matt-don and we can go for it. Adding every one on the current PH list doesn't make much sense when there is such disparity between current goals/levels.

Matt (and anyone else), I'm spending a lot of time on the game at the moment and have characters at level 27, 18 and 3, so should have something suitable for anyone. Just send me a friend request with "PH" in the message so I know you're not a random and then join my fireteam whenever you see me online. smile

Yes. I kept losing connection to the destiny servers. My psn connection etc was fine. I had to stop playing.

I will keep an eye out for what level character you are playing and join as appropriate.

I am a member of the clan but it doesn't display that in the game. Anyone got any idea why?

I won't be back on until Sunday at the earliest but, I think I'm going to spend my time joining others in your fireteams from now on - much more fun than grinding smile I have a Level 22 Hunter and a Level 6 Warlock (who desperately needs some better guns!!)

Glad it's not just me with connection issues. Started last night and I haven't been able to play at all today. It's a shame as today is the first chance I've had to play in a while. I get a 'BEE' error code, which is discussed by Bungie here: http://www.bungie.net/7_Error-Code-BEE--FLY--LION/...

The upshot seems to be that it's a known problem with package loss affecting people in the UK. Looks like they thought they had solved it, but I beg to differ.

Almost up to level 18 now and still really enjoying it. The Crucible is a laugh, I particularly enjoy taking down players who are on level 25+. Equally, I was shot to ribbons repeatedly yesterday by someone on level 8. The former obviously a result my epic skill, the latter clearly due to lag biggrin

Enjoyed a little stint with ROB_GTR yesterday, I felt rather under powered in a few of your missions. lol.
