OK so currently I have the Future War doobry equipped which means any reputation I earn goes towards that faction. However it seems to be taking an awfully long time to even get to level 2 so that I can buy faction armour let alone level 3 for weapons.
Is this the best way to acquire legendary gear or would I be better off removing the faction item and acquiring general vanguard rep\gear instead?
Good question, I'd been wondering the same thing actually but I've stuck to gaining Vanguard rep for the time being. Level 2.5 roughly now but I don't have enough marks to yet buy anything. It does take an awful lot of bounties to level up though. Is this the best way to acquire legendary gear or would I be better off removing the faction item and acquiring general vanguard rep\gear instead?
I'm at level 24 at the moment. Managed to get there by picking up and upgrading some level 20 rare items but I don't think I'm going to get much further without adding some legendary armour pieces to my collection. I am past level 1 rep on the Future War Cult so I may just persevere with that for now as I'll only have to start from scratch for Vanguard rep.
The good news is I managed to pick up a legendary pulse rifle from a lucky weapon drop. Unfortunately, at the moment it's not even as good as my current weapons as I need to upgrade it. It does have LOADS of upgrade slots so hopefully it should end up being decent. Now I just need to get all the weapon parts and other materials to upgrade it. Keep finding I am running out of weapon parts which is a bit annoying.

Tip for weapon parts and armour crafting, providing you're not trying to level up anything in that slot (primary weapon, helmet etc.) currently, when you go to hand in a bounty, swap to something you were going to trash anyway (greens, crap blues) and then turn in a bounty, it will level up the item (+ symbol next to it, no need to actually spend money taking the upgrade) and when you break it down you'll get more weapon parts or armour materials from it. If you've got multiple rubbish items to break down and multiple bounties you can quickly make up a lot of crafting materials.
Thats an awesome tip, Steve! I had been doing the trick of putting any non-leveled up weapons into my slots whenever I hand in bounties, but that was always stuff I planned to keep and use later. I'm already in the habit of only handing bounties in one at a time, so I could upgrade or move stuff around into my use-slots before handing in the next one. How much of an improvement does it make for say... handing in a green that would maybe normally only return 1 weapon part?

The green will then give you 2 parts, so if you've got a lot of junk and a few bounties it doesn't take long to add up.Good call.
I had a purple chestplate to level up and just required 16 spirit bloom on Venus to manage it. So I planned to do a quick run the level to pick some up - started around the beginning area before Winter's Run and knew to check all the wee caves around there... opened a chest and got 13 in one go! Was pretty pleased - took me all of 2 minutes to what I needed.
Also, I had received purple engrams that turned out to be chest armour for different classes that I couldn't use and decided to hold onto them in case they introduce in-game trading (rumours suggest they have it on the cards for the future), but changed my mind last night and just scrapped the two that I had and - voila! 6 Ascendant Shards. These were the items I was struggling with the most to find through normal play. Now I know how to go about getting them - just scrap everything you won't use. Keep nothing back.

Got invited by someone random to try the weekly heroic raid (my first one ever as it happens) and he had a mic (I didn't at the time). After being battered for about the 8th time by those minotaurs with void armour whilst waiting for a door to open all I could hear in a Sahf London accent was "fack that, fack dis, fack this game" over and over . In the end he bailed and we went to the Tower at which point I left the fireteam.
Quite an amusing introduction into the world of co-op online play I thought
I have to say I'm having more fun building up my level 14 Titan than playing with the original level 22 Hunter - second time around you know what you are doing and start doing things in the correct order - haven't even made Venus yet but somehow it doesn't seem to matter at all from an enjoyment perspective
What has helped was being able to equip a rare hand cannon collected whilst playing as the other character and shared via the vault - now I know what Dirty Harry must have felt like!

Completed the raid last night, up there as one of the most satisfying gaming moments I've had.
Nice one, who did you do it with - I'm not sure I'll ever be able to get another 5 people on who are capable and willing to do it?What kit did you get as a reward?
Anyone want to try the Vault of Glass tonight? we had a go on Saturday with mainly 25-27 level guys, killing things wasn't an issue, knowing what to do was. Every time we had killed a few oracles the screen would go red and we'd all die even if we killed the oracle above the gate? Youtube isn't providing much assistance.

Put this up earlier in the thread, but it's a great guide on what to do:http://www.playstationtrophies.org/forum/destiny/2...
Absolute F**ker of a bounty I've got at the minute. Admittedly it is for an Exotic weapon- the hand-cannon Thorn.
Bounty is twofold (thus far... I've read somewhere that there is a third leg which is almost as impossible):-
1. Secure 500 points from Hive on the Moon. A bit of a grind but easy enough.
2. Secure 500 points from Guardians in the Crucible. Sounds simple enough but there are 2 stipulations:-
(a) Only weapons that cause void damage count; and
(b) 5 points are scored for a kill (with a void weapon) but 2 points are deducted for ANY death.
I only have a puny shotgun that causes void damage and I don't use these regardless.
Went from 115 points to 37 after a comedy 2 hour period of crap-ness. Now back up to 143. I feel like I'm never going to get to 500 points but I'm compelled to keep trying.
Forums suggest bagging a sniper rifle and playing control with a view to just camping a base, from distance. Don't like the idea of that, so I'm relegated to making use of my Hunter's invisibility powers and just going mental in the free-for-all.
Any tips would be gratefully received.

Firstly, Thorn is rubbish. I did the bounty and used it for 20 minutes or so, but it's just a pig of a gun and not worth the effort. They are going to improve it apparently, but I've no idea when this will be.Bounty is twofold (thus far... I've read somewhere that there is a third leg which is almost as impossible):-

Secondly, get good with using Fusion rifles would be my tip. I did the 500 points in around an hour by using a void fusion rifle, but it will boil down to how good at PvP you are.
Finally, there is a final stage where it opens up a special strike on the moon, similar to the regular strike, except there are loads of powerful, shielded enemies around. This is really tough and one of the hardest things I've done in the game so far (if you look above you'll see I've now done the raid and would still rate that strike as being the bigger pain in the arse). One section involves you trying to kill 4 wizards with solar shields whilst they absolutely pound the three of you with blast damage. We lucked through that section a couple of times, then you have to do the Phogoth fight without killing him and fend off three waves of enemies, including really tough Arc-shielded knights and more wizards before your target arrives, who you then have to kill. It's do-able of course and there is a way of surviving by hiding in a room and luring enemies at you, but it's not something I'd relish doing again in a hurry. Especially since the reward is so crap as it stands.
If you're going to attempt the strike, make sure you've got players on your fireteam with a decent Arc Fusion rifle and a Solar Fusion rifle too, plus arc and solar grenades/supers will help.

Thanks for that, Steve, appreciated. And congrats on beating VoG! Secondly, get good with using Fusion rifles would be my tip. I did the 500 points in around an hour by using a void fusion rifle, but it will boil down to how good at PvP you are.

Based on that I may just ditch this challenge. I don't even use hand cannons. Preferred load out is a scout rifle and fusion rifle. If I could just find a friggin void damage damage FR, I'd be okay as I'm fairly decent at p v p.
May get the missus to delete it.
