Combine them with strikes if possible rather than just the bounties. That way, you can clear 125 rep points per strike. It is a grind though.
Depending on whether you play PvP, the crucible is better for this- 25 rep marks per round win and the bounties are easy enough.
My headphones/mic has arrived!

Managed to get through the 4 witches on the weekly nightfall with my level 26 titan on my own (Yes I am THAT good ), however keep getting my a** handed to me by Pogoth or more correctly his buddies. Anyone up for doing the Nightfall this evening?
As for the question asked above re Xur it's 23 motes of light for an exotic armour piece, well actually an exotic engram but that's even better as you get lots of rep points from the Cryptarch for decoding it too.
The problem as someone pointed out is that you may end up with a piece of armour that is not for your class, however if that happens you can either break it down for ascendant materials (I think you get about 5) or you can store it in the vault if you plan on creating or already have another character. Either way it's the best use for the motes of light I have found so far as all the other things you can buy with them are purely decorative and I am not a girl so not interested in "dressing up" my guardian.

You can cheat Pogarth by staying in the two rooms before the big hall and shooting him from there. As for the question asked above re Xur it's 23 motes of light for an exotic armour piece, well actually an exotic engram but that's even better as you get lots of rep points from the Cryptarch for decoding it too.

There must be a video of it on Youtube by now, everyone's doing it!
Finally got my TV reinstalled last night after a floor-replacement nightmare which is still on-going........
Thus I installed Destiny and has a play. Looks nice, great graphics and I like the story but it's going to take a while to get (re)used to the two stick control method.
I'm a dyed-in-the-wool KB and mouse player since the 80's and I'm taking a while to teach my right thumb to be quick, precise and accurate. I assume I'll get there - I also assume the thumb-sticks will get smoother with use.
I guess what I'm saying is, I suck

Well i got on last night for an hour or so, managed to get to the dizzy heights of level 3! Another friend joined me for a few missions.
How does it work with higher levels? He was level 20 in my fire team so is he scaled down? Do i get less exp etc?
Its a good game though, hoping to get a few more hours on tonight

Had a couple of fun games with Snubs last light - sorry for cutting off abruptly, I hit the wrong button and left the fireteam before saying 'good game' and all that
Yet again, I did a public event this morning and there was nothing with the postmaster for my trouble!! They must be teasing me because they know I need 1 more mote of light for an exotic engram this weekend!
The cheap headset that arrived yesterday is outstanding! Much more immersive than TV sound and the voice chat quality is pretty good too. An absolute bargain at £23! It is powered off the controller so, there is a cable involved but, I didn't even notice that once I started playing.

So how do I progress, my character is level 20, so what do I do now to get further? Going through the planets progressively, also I've found the odd 'rare' bit of kit but nothing legendary, where do these appear or do I have to buy them?
Once you have reached level 20, rare armour you find will have a "light" stat and the more light you have the higher the level. Remember to upgrade the armour to give you a little increase in light too. I now have full upgraded rare armour (albeit not all level 20) and I'm level 22.5-ishIn order to level further, you need legendary gear which you can buy from the Vanguard or the various factions, or exotic gear from Xur or obtain via legendary engrams which are *supposed* to drop now and again (not seen a single one in all my time in the game)
Keep on grinding!

I'm happy to do a few Vanguard strikes etc. with you tonight if you want. I found it difficult to level up after 20 at first but, persevered and got some legendary engrams drop, bought an exotic helmet from xur and bought some more vanguard armour and somehow I've got up to lvl 27. Keep doing the bounties and grinding away and you'll get there.
Cheers for that although I tend to play at rather random times and almost never in the evening hence why I don't see most of the "regulars" who post on here I'm grinding away doing daily heroics (got battered by yesterdays, blummin' Minotaurs), public events and bounties in order to get enough vanguard rep and marks to buy something half decent. I think I'll faint if if ever get to see a purple engram drop however!I'll be sure to invite you if you happen to be online at the same time as me though

The game day doesn't reset at midnight - I think it resets at 9am GMT (so 10am our time until Sunday). So if you do a public event at 8pm on Wednesday and 8.30am on Thursday, that's all the same day in Destiny's eyes.
