Seen the vid now. Court of Oryx looks interesting enough and will offer some variety in terms of boss mechanics. It also looks reasonably tough at Tier 2 (enemies at level 41 / 42 although that difference isn't as significant in terms of damage as it was in year 1 apparently). We can only wait to see what Tier 3 will be like.

"Luke Smith ‏@thislukesmith

A one-level gap in Year1 between player and AI was a huge difference. The Year2 Combat equation is based on Light now, so don't sweat a 41"

My only reservation at this point, and only playing the thing will tell, is this activity is designed to be tackled by up to 9 people simultaneously. The arena that it is staged in will get awfully crowded by that many people as it appears to be really small with death drops on all sides

I wonder if we are going to see a gaggle of guardians hanging around the entrance waiting for someone to kick off an event? Or will it generally be tackled by a fireteam of 3?

Those heavy swords though, oh yeah, I need to have one of those. They don't randomly drop (or at least the exotic variety shown doesn't) you have to complete presumably a bounty to get it.

Hi all,

Could someone quickly explain to me how this game works with online play. I bought it the other day and have just been playing through the story so far. I'm only a lowly level 11 but would like to venture into some matches.

Do you guys have a squad or something running? Do I need to level up more first because whenever I play the online matches I just keep getting wasted all the time at the moment.

Sorry but I'm too lazy to read through all 200 and odd pages of posts!

Thanks!

Good, another Welsh lad. Hurry up and level up so we can give all of these English pricks a run for their money!

Basically, to do things like raids (where up to 6 of you work together on a long mission with a big end of level boss) you need to be a certain level. It's accessible at level 20 but you'll need to be a fair bit higher than that to do any damage. The same for weekly nightfall strikes and prison of elders. Do your best to get to level 20 ASAP and then the best bits of the game open up to you. There's loads of us on here who play it regularly so we'd be happy to take you through raids/strikes and show you the ropes.

The crucible isn't level dependant and armour and gun damage are balanced out to give newbies a fair fight. You probably need more practice as anyone still playing this game will likely have put in quite a few hours. And by hours, I actually mean weeks of their lives.

Ah thanks for that boyo! I'll come back here when I'm @20+ then and we'll kick some saes ass! lol

I'm surprised that you mentioned that about the crucible though. I seem to shoot the st outta some one with no damage done and then they hit me once or twice and I'm brown bread?!?! Must be head shots??

Great game though...

Some weapons have a quicker time to kill than others in Crucible, so they will seem more powerful than some other weapons. Most people will also be using legendary/exotic weapons that have perks that your basic weapons do not - these can add to their lethality and actually make them more powerful than yours, despite having the same base attack power.

Basically, they're using better weapons than you are!

As a general rule, I'd try to find a hand cannon and shot gun that you like the feel of for playing in the Crucible - these tend to be the best combination for the moment.

Some good information in the Bungie weekly update: https://www.bungie.net/en/News/News?aid=13453

Everything changes next Tuesday when Destiny 2.0 rolls out so if you have things going on in preparation for TTK (or even if you aren't going to buy it), it's worth a read

The new level system kicks in for instance and your character gets converted based on the gear you have on you and what you have in the vault. The XP based levelling system also kicks in, so if you have characters that aren't level 34 (me) then you have a week to level those up too by doing stuff

For those that can't click on links, here's the copy 'n paste summary of changes

Character

Character Level Cap for all players will be raised to 34
Level Cap for The Taken King will be 40
You will be able to level up by gaining XP alone
Character Level and Light are now separate statistics
Your Character Level will be grandfathered into your highest possible Light Level from all gear in your inventory and vault
Attack and Defense ratings for armor and weapons will be translated to the new systems - their power levels will be unchanged
Grimoire Score has been moved from the Character Nameplate and now displays in the Character Screen

Quests

A Quest Screen will be added to your Menu
Tracks all active Quests
Abandoned Quests can be recovered in the Hall of Guardians
Year One Activities have been converted to the Quest system

Bounties

Bounty slots will be increased to 16
Incomplete Year One Bounties will be auto-abandoned on 09/08 in preparation for launch of The Taken King
Incomplete Year One Exotic Bounties are auto-completed with their respective Vendors
Year One bounties issues by Eris will be retired
Reputation with Crota's Bane can continue to be earned by completing Quests in The Taken King

Tower

Collections have been added to the Tower
Emblems/Shaders can be found near Eva Lavante
Ships can be found near Amanda Holliday
Exotic Armor and Weapon Blueprint added to the Tower
You will now have the Blueprint for all Exotics you own in your Collection
Report to the Vanguard in the Hall of Guardians

Inventory

Motes of Light will be used to grant XP to Weapons and Armor
Class-specific Armor materials will be deprecated in favor of a unified Armor Material
Vanguard Quartermaster, Roni-9940, will exchange old materials for armor material [Update: This change takes effect on 09/15]

Weapons & Armor

Revised Sandbox balance will be in effect, based on our previous analysis

World

Fallen Wolf Hunt Patrols will retreat in anticipation of the arrival of Oryx in your solar system

Well yes, I initially read it that way as I have Pocket Infinity on the go at the moment with no chance of finishing it but I can't really believe they will give out any exotics as a result of auto-completion, more likely it will just disappear from your bounty list? I do, however, wait to (hopefully smile) be proved wrong on that one, not that Pocket Infinity is anything to get excited about

In the right hands, it can be devastating- pre-firing around corners in the crucible is uber-effective. smile

I don't think they'll be abandoned- the wording of the bounties point, just above it in the list, is notably different. Also, can you imagine the back-lash from those mid-bounty?!

Haha, wouldn't that be funny! Actually, I've got no chance as I always delete the bounty so, I don't have an incomplete one on any character.

So from what I read, based on all the armour you have in your vault depends what level you are???? So having a cull of stuff I would never wear is out the question

I think it just means whatever the best combination is that you can make out of all the stuff you have will determine your level and light. I personally wouldn't delete anything until after Tuesday and maybe even until TTK has been released

I'm stuck in a hotel in Italy with a rubbish Internet connection and a CRT TV so I can't get online which is why I've been absent a little while.

I've held off pre-ordering TTK as it's been a little confusing so maybe somebody can help clear things up. I'm travelling for a fortnight come September 15th (terrible timing!) so a physical copy of Legendary or Collector's Edition is out of the question. Now I already have TDB and HOW digital downloads so I'm not going to buy the digital Collector's Edition and buy everything again in a non-physical form so my choice is the TTK digital download for £39.99. Now as I understand it this omits the new emotes, shader and class items but these are then supposed to be available in another add-on which so far hasn't been mentioned anywhere since the weekly update on June 24th. Is this how everybody else reads it? If I get the standard digital download am I going to lose out on all the good gear?

EDIT:

Destiny Weekly Update 24/06/15 said:
...
We’re actively working to make the digital content from the Collector’s Edition available in a $20 upgrade bundle (suggested retail price), available on 9/15/2015. If you purchase a stand-alone version of Destiny: The Taken King, or already have, you'll be able to pick up the digital items as soon as they are available.
...

If you purchased the existing Digital Collector’s Edition, and you already owned Destiny and both expansion packs, we’ll have some additional information for you soon.
...
This additional information has never been given!

Given that $20 will almost certainly translate to £20 here, I'm not sure some dodgy dance moves, a shader and a class item would be worth the money in any case, would it? I don't think you'll be missing out on "good gear" since there will be plenty of stuff to pick up in game to make up for it. But no, I haven't seen any mention of the extra add-on anywhere. Wouldn't surprise me if Bungie quietly ignore it and let it drift away.

I just went ahead and pre-ordered TTK from PSN - that gives you a weapons pack don't forget which *might* be useful at least at the start of the new campaign (but it's not exclusive to PSN or anything)

OK I'll stop procrastinating and pre-order the digital version. By my reckoning I'll get the Triumphs shader, the VIP goodies and the Suros pack at launch which should be enough to get me going. I'll wait and see if the extra bits are worth buying afterwards. I'm trying to save money at the moment as I'm buying a car so the cheap option is the way to go! Thanks Moog...

It's actually cheaper to buy the Legendary edition physical copy from Simply games than buying TTK digital. Granted, you don't need half the content but it is still cheaper. As for the £20 Exotic class items, shaders and dance moves, Moog, I bought the full-fat collectors edition, so I should be able to demo them for you to see if you feel like dropping the cash on them.

I don't want to jinx it before I get the keys as I've had a few of these fall through but yeah it's "relatively quick" wink

I'll reveal all once it's in my driveway...

hehe I look forward to seeing you swan gracefully across Crota's platform post TTK rocking those 20 quid emotes thumbup

Seriously though, if you don't want a physical copy and don't want to pay for things twice, then the PSN / third party code route is the only one left. I'm not a collector, so those bits and pieces don't really interest me

Having said that, didn't know that they were exotic class items ... scratchchin

Also, in a break from the norm, TTK unlocks at 10am UK time on the 15th. I assumed it would be 6pm like everything else. HoW was 6pm IIRC.
