So to the guys who have raided, what do you think is the lowest light level you can realistically get away with but still be effective? I'm on 285 with a reasonably decent loadout (and the sword is at 282) and am keen to get in and start raiding as I've managed to avoid spoilers thus far but do you need to be 290+?

Stimps an I were having this discussion with Lovechild earlier this evening (cheers for the runs again Gents!), and whilst Stimps and I are still Kings Fall virgins, LC has done it several times already. His advice seemed to be that 290+ would mean you're more able to contribute to various points that require burning down high-health targets, but that it would certainly be possible for a competent team to carry a 280+ through without too much effort, as long as you were able to communicate effectively as a team.

I've been putting it off the last week, trying to make sure I'm prepared, but quite frankly, I'm chomping at the bit to get stuck in. My Warlock seems to have hit a bit of a wall at light 294; every single point of light is extremely hard earned at 290+ and if the raid is the place to go for the 300+ club, then that is where I need to be. I've got a Monday - Thursday off next week, so I'll be trying to get some raiding done over this weekend and the early part of the week. Once the Warlock has had a run, I'll try and bring Hunter and Titan along as well, though their light levels are a bit lower, hovering around 287-288, weapon loadout dependant.

Yup, another raid virgin here keen to get stuck in shoot

Anyone fancy having a crack at it this evening?

Warlock is 290+ depending on which weapons re equipped. Titan is at 285 and just needs a decent helmet.

Sims, Stimpy? Be nice to not be the only one who hasn't been in before...

I sense confirmation bias. smile

The fact is, the first completions, worldwide, were as a bunch of 280s with a few at 290+. We were no different. 280 is plenty for the raid although some encounters will take longer to complete. This isn't a bad thing... the longest encounters can be the jumping puzzles otherwise.

Last night was a good example. We ended up at Oryx from a fresh start with Davie who hadn't been in the raid before. We smashed through all of it very quickly, including killing the penultimate bosses in the first 2 rounds. I jumped out of the team at the end to allow somebody a chance at getting loot but stayed in the party chat. They got the mechanics right and were getting there with Oryx but it got late. No biggie, he'll be beat tonight no doubt.

Don't let 280 hold you back. smile

In other news, my RNG streak continues. I dropped a 310 Zhalo a day after dropping a 290 from an engram! That is 4 bits of armour and weapons that have dropped at 310 in the last 7 days. biggrin I'm now a nudge below 305 light although I am still rocking a blue helmet (298). hehe

I'll get the Touch of Malice when next on as well. shoot

Was gonna post about our raid conversation regarding the leap to 300.

I've completed 6 raids, although I think 1 was as a 2nd run through, so 5 paying raids. Loot obtained thus far:
2 HMGs
2 Fusion riifles
2 HCs
1 Shotgun
1 Sniper
1 Rocket launcher
1 Pulse rifle
1 Auto rifle
2 Boots
1 Chest
1 Arms
1 Ghost
1 Class item (I think)

All the raid drops are 300-310, and finishing The Taken War quest line grants a 310 artifact from Witchypoos upon raid completion. GET RAIDING bhES!!!

An average of 290 is about right. Benny and I weren't completely useless as mid/high 270's when we did it on alts, but there were a few 300+ to compensate. You definitely feel weak though.

Easier said than done. As you know, I was keen to raid last Monday, and last Tuesday. On Monday, it seemed nobody wanted to sherpa a raid virgin as invites were flying in every direction but mine. Tuesday, there was nobody on.

Last night I had no idea there was a raid going on so, missed that one too.

The days when I can spare 2 - 3 hrs for a single gaming session are limited but, I can tonight so, here's hoping!!

Cool, not just me then smile I've hit a bit of a brick wall with Destiny in that remarkably I don't have a lot (I want) to do, but that's mainly down to me not wanting to run Strikes with random people since I just don't enjoy that (perhaps this isn't actually the game for me having now sunk a year into it hehe) Haven't even started The Taken War as a result, it just sits there in the quest line with no steps in it as I think the Brothers strike kicks it off?

I need some things from the Raid to progress another quest, some Court of Oryx stuff to do that I don't have runes for, exotic sword quest that requires kills in the Crucible (that'll still be there until Destiny v3 turns up), tons of strikes to do (see above) and that's about it apart from some crappy 75 kills with a shotgun from the Gunsmith

Hence the thought process on the Raid since the grind to get to 290 is already wearing thin - bounties, daily missions, turn in blues and hope for the best, log off and try again tomorrow frown

Picked up Boolean Gemini a couple of days ago but it seems a bit crap against my Hung Jury scout and Three of Coins usage has netted me zero engrams so far, but that's RNG I guess - I need a Zhalo Supercell!

I'll see if I can be about this evening, it would be great to form up a Raid virgins fireteam and head in there come what may biggrin

Edit: what time are people thinking? 8-ish sound about right?

Speck, you've had no invites from me as you said you wanted to go in fresh. It was only after Monday's raid that you told me you'd changed your mind. I'm off for a fortnight as of next Monday, so I'm free and easy baby!

I managed to bag myself The Villainy, a Future War Cult pulse rifle, that came with Spray and play, and Danger Close, the new perk that dramatically increases reload and handling when two or more enemies are in close proximity. It also has Hand-Laid stock, so while the range takes a bit of a hit, it has maximum stability. Mine is currently sitting at 297 attack, and is superb in both PvE and PvP.
Got this as well last night with Headseeker, stability and grenadier. Comparing to Messenger, it's got slight less stability (fixed with perk), slightly less impact but HRoF. Looking forward to giving it a whirl.

Must admit that I find myself no longer bothered about doing NFs/Strikes/farming, and doing all the quests on alts doesn't appeal either.

I don't think the lack of invites was meant with any malice.

Whether we wanted it or not we're at war with the cabal (hehe) the perception that has been created is that those that haven't raided are wanting to do so completely blind and right from the very start. Raiders on Tuesdays and Wednesdays that know the gig (and are happy to do things like take the significant shortcut through a jumping puzzle thereby missing out a mechanic), like times old, just want to get through it to increase light levels/get weapons etc. Also, and I've been in a party chat when this has happened, a comment is made that "so and so doesn't want to raid yet" which may not be true but again, the perception is there.

I think you guys are much more likely to get sherpa'd (kinda) at a weekend when people are playing for fun. If you don't want to be sherpa'd and want to work things out for yourselves, you'll need more than 3 hours... smile

Well I thoroughly enjoyed the raid last night and a special thanks to Singh and Benny for acting as guides throughout the entire journey. Will not be back on until Monday but I expect a completion from the guys tonight or tomorrow, at low 290's I felt I was useful and more hampered by understanding the mechanics (and skill) than firepower.

Speckle and co, get in there it is a lot of fun. Should have some time to the end of next week and the week after for some day time play and getting swords.

Davie

ps First run through with no final kill netted me
Silence of Aarn - Shotgun
Smolder - Rocket launcher (from an engram)
War Numens mark - Titan skirt
War Numens boots - Dancin shoes
Taikonaut - Bawheid (but it rocks)

Right, let's get this cleared up once and for all.

Initially, having got the DLC late and playing catchup, I wasn't 'raid ready' when the raid dropped. The plan was to wait a week or so and jump in when light level was a bit higher but as it would only be a week later, plenty of people would still not have done it and so the experience would still be fresh for many of us.

This isn't what has happened. Many have done it now and know what they're doing/the mechanics of it which isn't an issue, it just means there are raid 'veterans' and 'virgins' What I wanted to do was head into the raid knowing nothing about it - regardless of who I go in with, this is what will happen as I've avoided any videos and forum posts that might give me a hint. Sure, it would be nice to have one or two there at the same time in the same boat but, also some with experience (and a higher light level) to make the whole experience a bit less painful.

I don't have the time or the patience to figure the whole raid out for myself, I just want to walk in the door not knowing anything about it in advance. With any luck, assuming a group can be established for tonight, mission accomplished smile

If I gave any other impression, it was unintentional.

No worries dude and nice haul thumbup. Your light level wasn't an issue at all and you impressively made both hidden chests... mentioning no names. hehe

Specks- crystal clear my man, crystal clear. I'll be starting my hunter tomorrow and given my 300 weapons as well as stash of 290+ blues kept for infusion, I reckon I can get to 290+ by Sunday. Will be ready to raid with him then. smile

Regardless of what happens tonight, I'll have an 'unraided' character on Sunday thumbup

Still got my Hunter to level up at some point, I quite fancy that hand cannon - is it pretty straight forward to get?

If you're talking about the Ace of Spades then, I'm afraid, it requires ranking up with the Gunsmith. That'll take time.

If you meant the raid hand cannon then it drops frequently from the runs I've seen. smile

I got Ace of Spades last night and it looks good. You need to be Gunsmith rank 3 and he then sets you some quests - the first is to get 100 hand cannon kills whilst using a telemetry and then you have to dismantle blue/purple hand cannons for him. Got the lot done in 20 mins, though it cost me 2 Word of Crota's.
